Very nice experience. My daughter had steak and the original piece was tough - they changed it for a very nice piece - no quibbles whatsoever. Very good service and Covid regs followed meticulously.
Had a delicious early family dinner at Gillray's. The service was outstanding and the staff were especially helpful supporting us with allergies. Excellent value for money on the London Restaurant Month menu.
£40 for two G&Ts. Then seated between two noisy pRtirs on a date when the other end of the restaurant was empty. Asked twice for a glass of wine but never received. Staff were pleasant but looked overrun.
The staff made me very welcome, the setting is impressive, great views of the Thames, delicious food and excellent value for money. COVID protocols were strong. Sad to see the restaurant so quiet whilst London is in Tier 2.
service was amazing!
the bartender is really friendly and nice and will make you a rocking drink (i had a mocktail)
Booked for my husband, daughter and her boyfriend and father.. all said the building and decor was beautiful and fabulous views over the Thames all enjoyed the meals also .. definitely be returning again
Both our steaks were ridiculously tough as mine was overcooked so I sent it back. The second steals was a lot better but still nowhere near the quality of other steakhouses in London. The staff did their best to recover the situation abs were very apologetic. However they did not offer any sauces wiry the steak which is a first.
Not the best, very bare table setting. I also tried to order a cider and the waiter basically tried to offer me beer as if it was the same thing.
Lovely setting with attentive staff. The food was lovely but a little slow being brought out & arrived at the table luke warm. Alcohol is a bit pricy bit that's to be expected in a hotel setting in central London. Overall a nice experience that I would repeat.
We chose the restaurant because it overlooked the Thames. Not from our table!
There were dirty plates stacked up on the bar. Tables weren’t cleared.
No new cutlery given for each course.
Tired old decor.
No atmosphere. Really poor food- but like a Harvester on an off day.
The staff were lovely and saved the night from being a disaster.
Food was cold and burnt. Short staffed. One chef and poor service. Returned 90% of the food we were served. Shocked that we were handed a bill. Never again!
The food was great and our server was lovely but it was EXTREMELY slow - we waited 15 mins for the card machine even after saying that we were in a rush to leave to get somewhere, and we waited at least 20 mins for them to clear our starter after finishing. A little disappointing given that the restaurant wasn’t that busy! The food was good though (order “down” in steak, my medium rare was definitely a medium) - wine is expensive but their Malbec was gorgeous!
Asked for medium rare steak.. it came out well done. Chips arrived 15 minutes late and although the staff were great the ambience was like I was waiting to be told off by a head teacher
Top quality, food amazing , very good value for money, stunning views .
The steak was delicious and we even got cocktails included in the deal which was a lovely surprise.
I’m going back!
We went to Gillray's for lunch to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary and it was also the first time we were in a restaurant since the lockdown so it was extra special! The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and the view was incredible. We would definitely recommend this place.
Great steak and even better location
I’m so sorry to complain but the steak was so tough neither of us even ate it. We did get the meal deal but it was actually inedible, we both just gave up.
The chips and sauce were nice.
The staff were lovely but started hoovering right near our table - maybe as we were the only people in there.
One of the best steaks I’ve had!
Excellent choice, superb food, courteous service, fantastic view
Had the large prime rib steak. It was promised at 1kg although it didn't seem quite that big. The taste was excellent and most of the meat was tender. The veg sides were superb, especially the mushroom and spinach plates - wish they were a bit more generous in their portions of veg. The only big disappointment was the ill-conceived fried bone marrow which was served breaded and fried. The marrow was lost in the breading and the loaf of bread that came with it (without butter) was pointless since the fried marrow wouldn't spread on it. Nice Merlot at a reasonable price. Service was very good and the waitress was knowledgable. I would go again.
Gillray's Steakhouse is my regular choice when I have guests visiting, - It's an impressive venue (with great views) in a convenient location, and the service is always excellent. I'm intolerant to wheat, and the staff are always understanding and I'm never disappointed with the food. Highly recommended!
A hidden gem overlooking the Thames. Great views and ambiance with a quality menu to support this. Attentive staff and excellent food - would highly recommend
Un bon repas dans un beau cadre
Sunday roast was reasonable. We chose the strip loin which was unfortunately hard to cut due to high sided plates. The most frustrating part of the lunch was the spoon orchestra. A waiter was sorting the cutlery constantly which created a cafeteria atmosphere in a restaurant that charges £22 for lunch, not smart.
What a find! I met family and friends for an early dinner at Gillrays and we were very happy with the service and quality of food we received. The location is beautiful. Within extremely elegant surrounds of the Marriott, and our table overlooked the Thames. Just lovely.
Service and setting was lovely.
What a lovely, lovely experience. My husband and I were there for a pre-theatre meal and our only wish is that we would have given ourselves more time to enjoy it. To begin we were lucky enough to have a table by the window which overlooked the Thames. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. We were impressed by the originality of the starter menu which did not disappoint - the bacon rashers were so good! Our mains were delicious as well - my steak was seasoned deliciously and my husband enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding meal. Our late arrival and misjudgment of the time it would take us to get to the theatre meant we needed to eat as quickly as possible and let our server know. She made sure to keep checking on our food and got her manager involved as well. Everything came out perfect and with enough time to quickly eat and make our show on time.
What a great place to meet friends and enjoy a Friday evening meal together. Food was excellent however the special T-bone arrived more cooked than the rare we ordered. Service was superb, attentive but not overstated.
there was no sauce bernaise left in the kitchen!
Very nice setting with excellent views over the Thames. Service also excellent but fairly quiet and very expensive. The food was all good, but you pay for the setting.
Extremely poor service, not great atmosphere and nice food.
I have dined here several times. It is a consistent establishment when it comes to service and food. I chose them for proximity to the South Bank Center. The wait staff did an excellent job of providing me a full service meal that got me out of the restaurant with plenty of time to comfortably make curtain call.
I've hosted many dinners at Gillray's Steakhouse, and myself and my guests have always been been impressed. On this occasion however, the restaurant didn't quite meet it's usual high standards... The filet steaks that we wanted were unavailable (fair enough - they'd sold out), so we ordered rump steaks instead. However, a while after ordering the waiter returned sheepishly, to announce that the chef wasn't happy with the quality of the meat, so could we order something else (again, unfortunate, but I appreciated the chef's honesty - we went for sirloin as our third choice). The food when it arrived was as delicious as ever (although the wrong sauces were paired with the wrong steaks). The service was very slow - I was happy that the restaurant was quiet and we were not being rushed through our meal, - but one of my guests complained that he was frustrated that there was no waiter to call over, and made a small scene when a waiter eventually appeared. The restaurant was good at catering for the wheat-intolerance of one diner. The bill was £281.19 for the five of us - which was more than I felt was fair bearing in mind the difficulties (and on checking the receipt after I'd returned home, I noted that I'd been charged a random £1.50 for a bread roll (we hadn't ordered or received any bread rolls).
fabulous place was amazing and very nice staff ! Steak is fabbb
The food honestly was average. It was good but not great. It took a while for our meals to come out. I have been in town for almost a week and had better meals.
We ended up choosing this spot since we are staying at the Marriott and have an early flight out the next day. We wanted to grab something close by so we chose Gillray’s.
Not up to Gillrays usual excellent standard of service or delivery the food was overcooked and the menu Boeing and long delays fir drinks and coffee
Took the wife for our anniversary having had a good meal here before on my own.the ribeye was probably, if not the worst steak I,ve ever been served in a restaurant, nearly cold and mainly fat.the sides and desserts were fine.the manager was very apologetic and took the steaks off the bill and gave us complimentary drinks so I have no issue with that or the staff who were lovely, polite and friendly.it did,nt completely ruin the afternoon as we still had a nice time.i would visit again, but that meat, they can and should have served better.
Good service - ran out of gin...... chips were cold. Fixed the problem but too late!
Starter of squid was a little cold and broccoli was had some darken marks on them.
Steak was nice, maybe a little overdone for medium.
Service was not very attentive and had to ask for bill twice even though the restaurant was not very busy.
Beautiful restaurant but needs improvement.
