Very tasty chicken and a light salad, the Palmito Asado and my girlfriend and I were full. We ate here on the later side one night so we were not super hungry and the portions were just the right side.

I live in the neighborhood and, having walked by a bunch of times, I was curious to check this out. We had dinner with a friend last Friday and we all really enjoyed Gilberth's a lot. I figured with "rotisserie" in the name it would be pretty standard fare but the food was really tasty and different, with a lot of Latin flare. We loved the empanadas and chicharrone as apps, the chicken was super tasty and moist, and the pork was really tender and nicely marinated.

The service was very attentive and nice; servers checking regularly to make sure you have everything you need and you're enjoying your meal. My friend sent her fish back as she preferred it a little more cooked than it was served, and they did so really quickly and efficiently.

The dinner scene was pretty quiet - certainly easy to have a conversation - with a dimly-lit and comfortable interior. It wasn't very busy for a Friday at 7:30 so I'm hoping their business picks up as it would be a real drag if this place didn't get the patrons and attention it deserves. I'm really looking forward to my next visit to Gilberth's - it seems like a great neighborhood spot.

We dropped in for dinner and the Puerco Pabil caught my eye. We ordered a salad with grilled hearts of palm that was perfectly dressed but the star of the show was the Puerco Pabil.

Now that was fantastic. I don't know if the chef used Robert Rodriquez' recipe but it doesn't matter... the pork was nice big chunks that fell apart with just your fork. The flavors were perfect with the achiote, cumin and allspice and this one was served with some melt in your mouth onions. On the side, was a bowl of black bean mush that was done in a blender with some cilantro... absolutely delicious though it was so smooth that you had to wonder what it was. And the fresh made tortillas were hot, thick and perfect.

The Puerco Pabil was transcendent. If Johnny Depp had been there the chef would have died that night. ("Once upon a time in Mexico").

Thankfully, the chef will live on. I hope this dish stays on the menu. The ambiance was nice but the place was empty at 7pm... by 8:30, it was packed. I guess people eat even later than me in the Dogpatch

My recommendation is to get a variety of things and share them with the table. The chicken and the spare ribs are particularly good. The hearts of palm salad was bright and delicious

Second time here, food was great again. Even the vegetarian selections are interesting and flavorful. Can't wait to go back (or order delivery) to try other dishes. The only one in our party who was less than enthusiastic about his order had the baby-back ribs, and I think it was because he cooks his own at home a lot, and these were not as good as his. They could use some fans for the hotter SF days we seem to be stuck with lately.

The food has potential to be one of the best in town, but the dishes are mostly too salty or has too much lime added to it. Overall, the dishes are good, but I would not go back for too salty food again. Someone needs to tell the chef to be light hand on salt and lime.

I like this place. I had lunch here with a friend a month or so ago and both food and service were top notch. Just had dinner there last night and really enjoyed their Pollo. Service was OK -- not that great. Atmosphere is also OK; it fits in with Dogwatch by being an industrial type space. But, the food is the reason to return. My dining partner had their Cubano, and it was delicious. I hope to get back soon in order to try more dishes.

SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!! You have been warned!!!!!

We came to this restaurant on Valentine's day and the had a pre fixed 5 course with wine pairing menu.

1st course- prosecco (only 1/3 of glass and I looked around and the other guest had a half filled glass). Water came after the prosecco. Approximately 10 mins later the oysters came (prosecco gone before 1st course pairing). I'm realizing that this experience might be subpar but I was optimistic and gave them the benefit to rectify.

2nd course- vinjo verde (pairing size-correct amount) and seared scallops were delicious.

While we were waiting for our next course about 15 mins we decided to order more oysters (half dozen) since our table was empty with no food. They definitely didn't have the timing right for a multi course menu.

3rd course- They bring the red wine and we were confused because this course should be served with savingnon. They told us that our entrees will be coming. I informed the server that we haven't received our 3rd course salad. The server looked puzzled and walked away. About 5 mins pass and then the salad came and he walked away. I had to call him back to bring the savignon pairing for the salad. At this point I'm annoyed.

I look around the room to see everyone was having pre fixed meal and when they delivered the wine that the glasses we not a consistent pour. Some glasses were less and some were more.

4th course- pinot noir and the syrah were brought to the table (both were pinot noir) we had to ask for the correct glass of wine. The bistec/filet mignon (husband's) & chilpachole (mine) were brought to our table. This course was delicious and amazing.

5th course- desert wine, flan, and macaroons were delectable.

I have to say my husband and I enjoyed every dish that we ate but the service was sloppy and unorganized and that is the reason for the 2 star. If the service was on point then I would have given a 5 star. POOR SERVICE...great food!

Gilberth's has great food and service and ample space for groups. We came here for a large birthday gathering and had a great time. I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the RIDICULOUSLY high cake cutting fee of $5/pp. That's more than a cake slice costs from many fancy bakeries and more than evem what many wedding venues charge for cake cutting!!!!! We were also never warned of this before receiving the check.

First time coming here made a reservation for 6 and really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food. Had man dishes including the burger(not your typical burger), both fries (like crunchiness of regular fries but flavor of sweet fries), salad, fish and drinks to name a few. On their website it does not look like they serve alcohol but they indeed do. Wish the restaurant was a little busier for Saturday night but will return for good food.

Although an avid proponent of good food, style and creativity, Latin Fusion is not an area we explore much. But Wow!, what a discovery. Well-proportioned dishes to allow sharing, with a definite style of mixed spices that trigger your taste buds, this was a terrific experience for my family. We ate early (6 pm) and the restaurant was relatively quiet. But the wait staff was prompt and helpful, making sure that my daughter was tolerating the spice well.

It was appreciated that so many of their ingredients come from neighborhood sources. The chef has a deft touch for making all things approachable and unique. The drinks/beer list was impressive although not so big as to overwhelming. We very much enjoyed the Chicharon and Calamares y Almejas because their preparation was unexpected but worked very well.

Great dinner.

we had dinner at gilberths this weekend before an event next door at the wine works and it was lovely
we were completely late and they were super accommodating and friendly and flexible. The food and wine were very good - loved the spicy brussel sprout small plate, ceviche was a bit overpowered by its vinegar and spices but still good - the fish was excellent !
the wine selection nice with a variety of price points. Our service was fast and personable. Overall would definitely recommend

I was very excited to try this place in Dogpatch which seems to be looking to follow the Mission's lead with great local restaurants. Having to wait 20 minutes just for water and menus' is very frustrating and even more so given the place was only about half full. Disinterested looking waiters and people at the bar that looked like they worked there and never left the seat the entire time we were there. The food goes a long way making up for the bad service but I would liked to have another drink and something else but there are too many good options around the corner and down the street to waste time.

A real find with exceptional price/value ratio. The Brussels Sprouts and Ceviche are unbelievable. Last time I ordered the Cubano sandwich—melt in your mouth good!

We made a last minute reservation for 4. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. The grilled Brussels sprouts and empanadas were AWESOME! I discovered I don't like elk with the elk sliders. Very game-y. The carnitas Cubano was delicious and so was my partner's roast chicken with PERFECT French fries. We ended with tres leches cake and cinnamon jalapeño chocolate pudding. Overall, a terrific dinner!

We attended a gallery opening in Dogpatch, a neighborhood not on our radar. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food, the professional service and the hipness of this place. A great spot for good eats, friendly service and feeling alive with the spirit of San Francisco. Food wise, we loved the brussel sprouts, crispy yucca, and pork dishes...I suspect everything on the menu would be well executed considering the quality of the food we did indeed sample. Also, the dessert was great too...some kind of cake with a burnt caramel and strawberries...wonderful!

I really wanted to like this place. The space is good, it adds to a developing neighborhood, and the menu sounded interesting. Unfortunately the food came up short. We shared the sprouts, which were good. After that we had the duck and the ribs. I didn't try the duck but heard it was just o.k. My ribs were marginal. They needed to be cooked low and slow for tenderness. Instead, they had a chewy texture and were covered with sauce that could have come out of a Kraft bottle. Add that to some overpriced wine, and the result was underwhelming. Looking around the crowd, ⅓ may have been locals and ⅔ were older food tourists. If they don't improve the food quickly the tourists will be gone and this place is going to die.

A friend and I had tickets to a show and decided to have dinner here beforehand. We got there when it opened and thus it was very quiet and allowed us to converse easily. The food was fantastic, as was the service. The Horchata was amazing - it had an aftertaste that was just as pleasant as the drink itself. If you are into trying more exotic foods, this place does deliver on that, but also has great options for anyone who is less adventurous.

We've been to Gilberth's multiple times including breakfast and haven't been disappointed yet. A very creative chef who develops variations of classic Mexican cuisine with intelligence and taste. For instance, his duck carnitas presents you with such new flavors but with the traditional execution......not to be missed. Of all things......elk sliders! Delicious and tender. Not enough time or space to go into the entire menu but for a very special treat give them a try

Went on Saturday night where it was unusually quiet in Dogpatch. More refined than Hard Knox Cafe across the street and quieter than Serpentine (since it doesn't have a cocktail scene).

Great small plates. Some of the best brussel sprouts I ever had (I hate Brussels sprouts normally). Large plates were good but not great. Horchata was a little sweet but the blue corn drnk was fabulous. Good wine list and wine by the glass.

Will return.

Three old friends came together to Dine- we came in missing each other very much, and we left full and very content. This restaurant is a neighborhood gym. While it is quiet and reserved, the food is not. Bold and creative, it brought us back to Carribean surf trips and dancing the night away (if only in our mouths).

The food at this superb small restaurant is the finest we've discovered in some time. It's approach to fusion cooking is excellent in its selection and execution. And the dessert item Natilla, a citrus tinged custard was beyond excellent. We intend to become regulars!

Our 8 pm reservations were not held, we did not get a table but had to sit at a communal table. The service was very impersonal, very little attention was given to us.
The food was good but everything could have been a little better...for example, everything needed more seasoning. And no sauce, salsa or salt/pepper was offered...hard to get attention from the server so we just ate the semi bland food and got out.
This place could be SO good if a bit more attention was paid to the service and food.

We were pleasantly surprised by the food---it has noticeably improved since the only other time we ate here. However, the service was quite poor and we will not likely return. It was painfully, ridiculously slow as there we only 2 servers for the entire dining area. And, they often were simply chatting away behind the bar rather than proactively serving. We waited 10 minutes after being seated just to get a drink request in. No discussion of menu items. No friendly greeting when we arrived. Service is clearly not a priority here, unfortunately.

Was in search of a new restaurant in a new part of town and based on open table and yelp, we went to Gilberth's.
It is off 3rd and 20th in Dogpatch. ast. to the restaurant.

The place is smaller than I expected but it looked very clean. There was a family seated and we walked in with two other reservations. We were sat right away (we were 30 mins early for our reservation) The waitstaff is friendly and attentive.
The menu was different than what was listed online; I wanted to try the 'Elote" but it was not on the menu, seasonal perhaps?
We shared:
Lechuga Asada
Empanadillas de Jabalí
Carne a la parilla
Everything was excellent, very flavorful. We really enjoyed our meal. The Carne was so good! If you can, check this place out.
