What a gem! This place always brings a good night of food in a warm family environment.

William is a wonderful server! We will be back.

Very tasty chicken and a light salad, the Palmito Asado and my girlfriend and I were full. We ate here on the later side one night so we were not super hungry and the portions were just the right side.

I live in the neighborhood and, having walked by a bunch of times, I was curious to check this out. We had dinner with a friend last Friday and we all really enjoyed Gilberth's a lot. I figured with "rotisserie" in the name it would be pretty standard fare but the food was really tasty and different, with a lot of Latin flare. We loved the empanadas and chicharrone as apps, the chicken was super tasty and moist, and the pork was really tender and nicely marinated.

The service was very attentive and nice; servers checking regularly to make sure you have everything you need and you're enjoying your meal. My friend sent her fish back as she preferred it a little more cooked than it was served, and they did so really quickly and efficiently.

The dinner scene was pretty quiet - certainly easy to have a conversation - with a dimly-lit and comfortable interior. It wasn't very busy for a Friday at 7:30 so I'm hoping their business picks up as it would be a real drag if this place didn't get the patrons and attention it deserves. I'm really looking forward to my next visit to Gilberth's - it seems like a great neighborhood spot.

We dropped in for dinner and the Puerco Pabil caught my eye. We ordered a salad with grilled hearts of palm that was perfectly dressed but the star of the show was the Puerco Pabil.

Now that was fantastic. I don't know if the chef used Robert Rodriquez' recipe but it doesn't matter... the pork was nice big chunks that fell apart with just your fork. The flavors were perfect with the achiote, cumin and allspice and this one was served with some melt in your mouth onions. On the side, was a bowl of black bean mush that was done in a blender with some cilantro... absolutely delicious though it was so smooth that you had to wonder what it was. And the fresh made tortillas were hot, thick and perfect.

The Puerco Pabil was transcendent. If Johnny Depp had been there the chef would have died that night. ("Once upon a time in Mexico").

Thankfully, the chef will live on. I hope this dish stays on the menu. The ambiance was nice but the place was empty at 7pm... by 8:30, it was packed. I guess people eat even later than me in the Dogpatch

My recommendation is to get a variety of things and share them with the table. The chicken and the spare ribs are particularly good. The hearts of palm salad was bright and delicious

Second time here, food was great again. Even the vegetarian selections are interesting and flavorful. Can't wait to go back (or order delivery) to try other dishes. The only one in our party who was less than enthusiastic about his order had the baby-back ribs, and I think it was because he cooks his own at home a lot, and these were not as good as his. They could use some fans for the hotter SF days we seem to be stuck with lately.

The food has potential to be one of the best in town, but the dishes are mostly too salty or has too much lime added to it. Overall, the dishes are good, but I would not go back for too salty food again. Someone needs to tell the chef to be light hand on salt and lime.

I like this place. I had lunch here with a friend a month or so ago and both food and service were top notch. Just had dinner there last night and really enjoyed their Pollo. Service was OK -- not that great. Atmosphere is also OK; it fits in with Dogwatch by being an industrial type space. But, the food is the reason to return. My dining partner had their Cubano, and it was delicious. I hope to get back soon in order to try more dishes.

SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!! You have been warned!!!!!

We came to this restaurant on Valentine's day and the had a pre fixed 5 course with wine pairing menu.

1st course- prosecco (only 1/3 of glass and I looked around and the other guest had a half filled glass). Water came after the prosecco. Approximately 10 mins later the oysters came (prosecco gone before 1st course pairing). I'm realizing that this experience might be subpar but I was optimistic and gave them the benefit to rectify.

2nd course- vinjo verde (pairing size-correct amount) and seared scallops were delicious.

While we were waiting for our next course about 15 mins we decided to order more oysters (half dozen) since our table was empty with no food. They definitely didn't have the timing right for a multi course menu.

3rd course- They bring the red wine and we were confused because this course should be served with savingnon. They told us that our entrees will be coming. I informed the server that we haven't received our 3rd course salad. The server looked puzzled and walked away. About 5 mins pass and then the salad came and he walked away. I had to call him back to bring the savignon pairing for the salad. At this point I'm annoyed.

I look around the room to see everyone was having pre fixed meal and when they delivered the wine that the glasses we not a consistent pour. Some glasses were less and some were more.

4th course- pinot noir and the syrah were brought to the table (both were pinot noir) we had to ask for the correct glass of wine. The bistec/filet mignon (husband's) & chilpachole (mine) were brought to our table. This course was delicious and amazing.

5th course- desert wine, flan, and macaroons were delectable.

I have to say my husband and I enjoyed every dish that we ate but the service was sloppy and unorganized and that is the reason for the 2 star. If the service was on point then I would have given a 5 star. POOR SERVICE...great food!

Gilberth's has great food and service and ample space for groups. We came here for a large birthday gathering and had a great time. I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the RIDICULOUSLY high cake cutting fee of $5/pp. That's more than a cake slice costs from many fancy bakeries and more than evem what many wedding venues charge for cake cutting!!!!! We were also never warned of this before receiving the check.

Nice first time experience, and our dining guest enjoyed it too. The Dogpatch location was out of the way but we've been trying many different restaurants within this neighborhood -- and have not yet been disappointed.

Elk sliders were just ok, gamey. Wild boar empanadas were yummy. Arugula salad with grilled heart of palm and grapefruit was creative and tasty.
