Sweet Potato Fries
Grilled rib eye steak, shishito peppers, guacamole, rice & beans, tortillas
Gilberth's is my favorite restaurant in the Dogpatch. The food is amazing quality for the price - my picks are the shishito peppers, pollo asado w/ maduros and the red sangria! It is a great place for a casual date or a group.
The staff are so inviting! The food is always very good.
Good modern taken on Latin dining. Old favs (pollo tinga, Asada, etc.) were done well with a good mix of kitschy dishes (the sweet potatoes fries were a hit with my party). The wait staff were quite accommodating, and I was able to arrange a large group from work on short notice with a minimum of fuss and muss.
Excellent food. Great Margaritas. A little gem in Dog patch.
Super delicious and fun for a group! Only downside is I did feel service was a little bit slow but not a major complaint. I would absolutely love to go again and I can't recommend the pescado tikin xic enough! so tasty and very very fresh food and flavor.
great place for work group lunch, would come again
The pork belly appetizer is one of the most amazing dishes I've ever tasted. Incredible flavor and you just can't be the value. I would highly recommend Gilberth's to anyone visiting the Dogpatch area of SF. Enjoy!
a nice take on mexican...very good, although small, ceviche. unusual and very tasty enchiladas....the cubano was a bit weird...huge hamburger and fries plate.
not a knockout, but very comfortable for the dogpatch neighborhood
Great food and service! We had the totopos (chips, salsa and guacamole), garlic shrimp, rice & beans and tuna poke and everything was delicious!
Very inventive and creative food. A great place to go before a 7:30pm Warriors game where the food isn't as good and is more expensive. You get served and without waiting in line. The dishes also seem to have a lot of different ingredients and were filling without a lot of starch. I have already recommended it to my son and we will go again.
Our first time here and it was really great. All of the food was delicious and the prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back.
They had plenty of open tables (including on opentable!) and wanted to sit our party of three at a tabletop of 2. After my fifth time or so of asking, they finally gave us a second table so we could comfortably eat.
Gilberth's was a great "find" in my search for a local feel restaurant to entertain out-of-town colleagues. I can't wait to go back again!
Hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants you will find. I will add this to my list of will return regularly.
I love Gilberth's. It's a great, intimate spot with delicious food, and it's usually open later in the evening, which is clutch in SF-Dogpatch. We dine there about once a quarter, and the food is consistently flavorful, the staff is always attentive, and the drinks are delicious. It's a good, solid dinner spot with a lovely, kind of romantic atmosphere. Gilberth's also catered my 50th birthday party at the Sea Star, a bar down the block, and all of my guests were wowed by the food. A real SF gem.
Staff was great! Restaurant looks nice enough! They don’t have a full bar. Food could use some more flavor. Restaurant was not super busy for a Sat night but the tortillas for the tacos were cold. Not expensive but not cheap so I don’t feel I got my money’s worth since I’m willing to pay more for decent food. The deserts were not in any way original. The staff was super friendly.
We had enjoyed our first dining experience here, so when deciding on where to go we didn’t expect the outcome. Service was a bit slow for a 6pm reservation - the restaurant was not crowded (yet) and there was little to no interaction from our server. Deciding to go for something different, I ordered the Polenta main dish. It came out so hot that the sauce was bubbling and was impossible to eat (kind of a dangerous way to serve to a guest). It was awful, not creamy, not flavorful, found twig like pieces in the dish). My husband ordered the enchiladas which he enjoyed. However not a single server came by to check on us during our meal. Sadly, this restaurant is now off our neighborhood list on places to eat, so disappointing
This is a cozy neighborhood place with quality food, but I was disappointed this time that after eating our dinner (reserved at 9:15) we were told the kitchen was closed and dessert was no longer an option! How about letting you customers know that in advance? At most establishments, a waiter will come by and say something like "just wanted to let you know our kitchen will be closing soon, if you want to order dessert, let us know. " And it is a Saturday night so it seems like an early time to close-- if people who were reserved for a 9:15 table can't expect to have dessert, maybe forewarn them. It seems unprofessional.
Food was good, service not so attentive
Very small serving size which is why the dollar amount looks reasonable on line..
Brussels sprouts had so much lime or vinegar on them I couldn’t eat it..Also cold prepackaged cheese not melted put over roasted veg..big thumbs down..
Triple taco plate was good
Not a good wine selection I tried 3 and ended up having a margarita
Great place - farewell lunch for a colleague - some of the dishes were heartier than others - quality was high for all items.
Amazing food. Pork shoulder was phenomenal and paired very nicely with their house margarita :-)
Fun restaurant! Nice decor but casual. Unusual and delicious dishes. We had a group of 7 and they accommodated us easily. I would go again!
Delicious latin food that reminds me of home (Florida)
Nice neighborhood feeling. Nice menu. The duck is to die for. Strongly recommend.
Fantastic everything...service, drinks, starters, mains...everything!
This is a great Dogpatch stop!! Well done!!!
Nice menu choices and good wine list. I had the fish tacos, on which I liked the salsa, but the fish was overseasoned. I like spicy food, but there needs to be balance and this was all heat and no other flavors. Similar situation with the fried brussels sprouts appetizer...all we could taste was chili pepper or cayenne. My husband had the Cubano and it was the best of the three dishes we tried.
My boyfriend ordered a goat stew and was served goat tacos (with tortillas, no liquid). I ordered rice pudding for dessert and was served a popsicle on a plate.
My two companions were both very happy with their meals. My husband would have liked to have chardonnay available by the glass. My drink was great. Limited options for vegan choices but I enjoyed my choices as well.
Outstanding experience, as always.
The restaurant was too hot. No air conditioning and the windows wouldn’t open. Food was excellent.
Interesting venue; worth checking out Dogpatch and interesting crowd. But very noisy - sometimes couldn’t converse with my wife for a minute or longer.
Service good but should be better. Never asked how we were, but not hard to flag down; prompt response to asks.
At root the food was rather disappointing:
Brussels sprouts were greasy and a sort of uniform spiciness that took over the dish; pretty good but unfortunate because it could have easily been much better.
Pescado Veracruzano was nothing like the real thing: seemed like a pint of stewed tomatoes were dumped in the pan with more of the same low-grade grease. I could detect none of the vital ingredients: onions, potatoes, lime, garlic, or herbs. You could have taken the sauce and ladled it onto a pizza crust more appropriately. The waiter said the fish was “snapper,” whatever that means; the fish itself was ok but it was not a good dish.
Carne a la Parilla was a thin but (I thought; my wife not so much) tasty slice of grilled steak with chimichurri sauce. Unfortunately one-dimensional with the same icky grease and muddy flavors. At least a side of sweet potato fries was excellent.
Overall disappointing; no return planned.
Delicious food at a great value! Will definitely be back.
Cubano was great (have had it before and never disappoints). Excellent sweet potato fries, as were dipping sauces that accompanied.
Okay food, but not worth going out of your way for. Very tight quarters - there was about 6 inches between our table and the next table and not enough room for the 3 dishes we ordered to share on the table. Service was unfriendly and disinterested.
Happy to have vegan choices along with dishes for omnivore friends.
The food was great and the atmosphere is cozy but still lively.
Nice menu, good food, prices reasonable. Who can ask for more in a trendy neighborhood restaurant.
I had an enchilada with sweet potato fries and my two friends each had different kinds of tacos. A lot of sharing was done.
This is my go-to restaurant. Always consistent. Good food & friendly staff.
Nice place and fresh food! Service was awesome. Come early because it can fill up.
