An outstanding Italian restaurant set in a beach town. The clams and mussels were excellently prepared as was the fish dishes. A small and thoughtful wine list and a clean second floor location (with an elevator access). Craft cocktails. An enjoyable experience.
What a shame that this wonderful restaurant is a seasonal only spot. Hosted by co-owner RJ this York beach gem is open till October 25 this year, Thursday thru Sunday. Warmly welcomed and seated at a ocean view table far enough down the patio so as not to be noise polluted by the happening bar scene we had one of the best meals EVER! Lynn our server was funny, attentive and sure handed with our vodka martini's. The gnocchi appetizer was a revelation of puffy cloud like heaven and what can I say about the main course? Ribeye steak: tender, well seasoned and cooked a perfect medium rare. Green beans: thin, tender crisp and nicely accented with a touch of fresh sautéed garlic. Fingerling potatoes: perfect crisp outside and warm flaky insides. Finished off with the house specialty doughnut balls and a fond farewell from RJ I am left believing that I just ate one of the top five most enjoyable meals in my life.
Worst chicken parm ever! Clotted fettucini, san marzano tomatoes..I don't think so plus rubber chicken! Place has potential but my entree was so bad will not ever go back w/ all the dining options nearby. Had the same dish 2 years ago at GiGi's and it was amazing..must be a different chef.
Started out good but half way through the meal they seated a very large 14 person party next to us. They moved tables around etc...and then it got loud! The three of us were enjoying a nice lat night of family vacation dinner. After this point, our service became non-existent. Food was just okay, service was sub-par at best! We had 4-5 different servers throughout our meal and after dinner they never returned to even inquire if our dinner was good. Never asked about dessert or coffee. We had to tap one of our servers on the shoulder to ask for our check. They just don't seem to care...too bad! Head down the street to Union Bluff...that's what we'll do when we return here on vacation again next year!
Ten of us went to Gigi's to celebrate the last night of our vacation that also was the birthday of one of our friends. Everyone knows dining can be difficult with a large party but I was thrilled to find them on Open Table and was able to make reservations for the time we wanted.
I made note that it was a birthday and got a confirming phone call from the owner asking what type of desert we would like for the special occasion. I was impressed.
When we arrived and while our party was having drinks in the bar, our server introduced herself and told me she was going to take care of us for the night. She asked me who the birthday girl was and we confirmed the desert. To me, this is above and beyond typical service.
Once seated, the owner, RJ came over to introduce himself, tell us about the farm to fork food and where he sources his produce. The personal touch was much appreciated by the foodies in the group.
The Menu had enough choices for everyone to be able to pick a dish that was exactly what they wanted and it was delivered by at least 4 people so there was none of that long wait for everyone to get their dishes. The food is fantastic....so much so that we actually stopped talking to eat for the first time the entire week.
Gigi's is not your typical beach place. It's a fresh hip hot spot, and when in the York Beach neighborhood, should not be missed.
Dinner for 4 adults and 1 baby. They accommodated the baby beautifully . Really great cocktails, and food was generally excellent, but ... One person requested a vegetable substitution, and meal came out without request . Server apologized, but correct vegetable didn't arrive until all were done our meals. Another person ordered surf & turf special, requesting steak be prepared as medium. Steak came out pretty rare. As all others already had our meals, she made the best of it. Many apologies from the server, but no visit from the manager, and no discount or return coupon offered. Somewhat soured an otherwise nice meal.
We stay at York Beach each summer and dine at all the local establishments...without naming names. We try to spread it around town by picking a different spot/concept each night out.
Our party was (2) adults and (2) kids; we made a reservation through opentable to be safe but they could have accommodated walk-ins at our arrival time...little early when you spend a day at the beech [5:30p]
We ordered the Chicken Marsala, Chicken Mariana, Kids Pizza (adult size large!) and a children's chicken finger...a bottle of wine and the bread/oil was just the right amount of food without having take any back home . Gigi's was by far the best meal we had all week.
If weather permits sit on the outside deck...if rain falls you can always move indoors to a equally pleasant atmosphere.
Everything was perfect this evening! From how we were greeted, to the bar service, to our very intuitive and attentive server, to the entrees we were served. There are not a lot of fine dining options in York, but Gigi's is not to be missed. We will definitely be back!
We dined at Gigi's on the 4th of July. We had a night planned down by Short Sands beach to see fireworks but the weather had other plans for us. We had a 6:30 reservation however the weather turned around 4:30 so we decided to see if we could get seated early. The host was very accommodating and sat is right away. He even gave us a choice of outdoor or indoor seating. Oddly enough we chose outdoor because we wanted to keep an eye on the weather and crowds down at the beach. Pr waitor was very attentive and friendly. Our drinks were strong yet yummy. Our appitizers came out quickly and were excellent. The crabcake was moist, the calamari was perfectly fried and some of the best i have had. We both dined on the lobster pasta. It was a hearty sized portion. Cream sauce was excellent and there was a good amount of lobster. Unfortunately we ate too much and couldnt enjoy desert.
All in all it was an excellent experience and we will be dining there again.
From Sam in the bar to Chef Tony in the kitchen you will have a wonderful time with friends and family at Gigi's. Food and service are excellent at every level. While the menu is suited for all taste's don't be afraid to let Chef Tony do his thing. His culinary creations are among the best I've ever had.
RJ is always there to make sure everything is just right. I look forward to my next visit to this wonderful place.
Unfortunately, despite very attentive waitstaff, the food itself did not come to the table warm or hot. It was tepid at best. We were one of two parties in the place,s o how could that be? Risotto in an Italian restaurant can never be represented as whole grain rice. Shame on you.
I found the food to be pricey for fair quality. The had no vegetable options for children outside of a salad, there were many vegetables offered at all, which was disappointing. The atmosphere and menu offering seems do not compliment themselves. The restaurant has plenty of potential, they just need to figure out if they are fine dining or bar dining.
We were excited to try Gigi's though we were surprised that few people we knew who frequented the area had even heard of it. Upon arrival we were offered an outside table which overlooked the street. That was the highlight, other than the fact that we scored a very convenient parking space across from the restaurant. The service was spotty at best and the table across from us seemed to encounter every problem possible from the wrong food to courses coming out staggered. Our food was passable but nothing special--the crab cakes did not taste fresh and were overcooked as was the stuffed lobster. The chicken parm was ok but lacked the necessary amount of mozzarella and the red sauce was not vintage Italian. Should have been better.
Went at 8:15 for late night apps with my mom on our vacation, best idea ever! We stayed within walking distance arrived on time we were seated right away and from the moment we walked in until we walked out everything was amazing! The service was great, friendly happy servers, the food was delicious, the bubbly drink is the most perfect beach fancy drink I've ever had! The atmosphere was perfect. I can't wait to come back and get way more then just appetizers!
Dinner was amazing! The whole roasted fish was done exactly the way I remembered in Italy. Love the atmosphere, although sound carries from table to table. The bartender whipped up an awesome "mocktail" for me (being pregnant) & I felt like I was drinking which was really nice not to have to have water or soda. Katie was an excellent and charming waitress. The seats were very comfortable and we had a wonderful date night there.
First time at Gigi's. What a terrific, welcoming space, both indoors and out on their elevated porch! The dining room is set up so the patrons are seated mostly back to to back, allowing for a sense of privacy - this is a very winning feature. Our appetizers were really delicious (the arancini nd the gnocchi), although the main dishes were not quite perfect. (The lettuce in my companion's salad was quite bitter, and the sauce for the flounder was overly buttery and a bit too heavy for the dish.) Service was super - professional, attentive, friendly - perfect, really! I will return the next time I'm in the area
Great, but at least on this visit not as good as last seasons visit. It may be due to not being fully as yet up to speed. Food was a notch low and our waitperson was not fully knowledgeable and slow to service. However, the auxiliary service persons did an admirable service. I am sure that Gigi's will improve to whats expected from diners in short time...
If you are like me and love those Italian recipes from grandmothers kitchen of yesteryear-you will enjoy reliving the experience with some of this chef's creations. We had the gnocchi and fettuccine carbonara as an appetizer and they were delicious. Delicate gnocchi with a crisp exterior texture. The porchetta was phenomenal and the veal saltimbocca was surprising light and tender. We got to meet Chef Shaun and his staff did an impeccable job of being not only knowledgeable but proud to present the dishes at every opportunity.
My wife and I enjoyed a very quiet and enjoyable experience at Gigi's . The staff were very friendly and accomodating even taking the extra effort to exclude the meatballs from the Sunday night dinner special of meatball and roasted vegetable lasagna since my wife is a vegetarian.
