Gigino at Wagner Park Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely delicious food, well seasoned, flavorful. You could taste the fresh herbs in everything. Pleasant service. The restaurant is known for its outdoor Terrace with beautiful view of the Hudson and I have been many times out there and it is great. Unfortunately now in the winter dining is on the inside which is really disappointing. The atmosphere could best be described as "Hospital cafeteria". Their walls, large stretches painted brown, overly bright lighting. It needs a complete makeover on the inside, I felt bad for the chefs as their outstanding food was not given the atmosphere it deserved. If I were going there to eat alone reading a book, I guess I might do that but for any festive or date or any other social occasion no way. What a shame
We ordered beer one of the five beers that were on the menu and they were out, we changed to bloody marys and they were out of tomato juice, we changed to wine selection and they were out of wine. We ordered the special for lunch and they were out of the special. Service was OK, but nothing to write home about. The view is great in the summer and if you sit on the patio, it is very pleasant. No so much in the winter.
My husband and I wanted to share a meal in a restaurant with a waterfront view and hoped for good food too; sometimes you get one or the other. We got both! Lady Liberty and the moon shone beautifully for us. We enjoyed the eggplant appetizer - delish! I had the grilled salmon and my husband had the shrimp fra diavala - both were delicious and prepared perfectly. The glasses of wine that our waiter recommended for us paired well with our meals. We will certainly return to Gigino!
Visiting NYC with my boyfriend, this was the closest place near the waterfront that was also listed on Open Table, after taking a Statue Cruise. It's sorta a tourist trap but convenient. Food was ok nothing special though I think the best part is the bread and the view! A bit pricey for generic Italian but staff were friendly and right on the water so great location. Little tiny place with strange 80s/90s American music trying to resonate with the middle aged tourist - noting authentic Italian about this place but overall fine for lunch - nothing fancy.
As lovely as I remember it. Food, view, service and ambience is wonderful. You will not get a better value anywhere, especially on the waterfront looking out at the Statute of Liberty. Lovely green area part of the Park in front of restaurant where children can play. Miss it already.
Maybe they just had a bad evening? Had reserved a table in advance at a certain time. Showed up and was met with something like "It is overwhelming tonite, your table is not ready" and was directed to the not-so-cozy bar area. Idled for twenty minutes before we got our table... The location of the restaurant is terrific, to bad the service for the rest of the evening didn't get any better. First course arrived fairly quick, however main course included a wait time of 45+ minutes. Extremely busy restaurant, something I generally find fun and nice, but it was obvious that they had accepted too many guests which in turn resulted in stressed and poor service and long waiting times. Didn't complain but was still offered to share a dessert and a two drinks at the end of the dinner - good gesture! Still doesn't help up the rating.
We went to Gigino at Wagner Park to celebrate our anniversary during our stay in New York (from the UK).
The setting is fantastic overlooking the Hudson River with good views of the Statue of Liberty and the Sunset. (This was our primary reason for selecting the restaurant).
We had looked at the online menu before making our booking and so were aware of the potential costs for the meal and drinks.
The quality of the food was good and the location fully realised our hopes for a romantic setting.
However, the service did leave something to be desired. Our waiter presented us with menus and then proceeded to list a number of available "specials" at such a rate that it was difficult to know what was what?!
This only slightly detracted from the overall experience, but it would have been better to be presented with a printed list of available "specials" so that we could have more time to consider the options.
Overall, I'd say we enjoyed the location, the food was good but not great and the atmosphere was good.
We chose Gigino for a wedding anniversary and the ambiance and the ambiance and food were great. Weather was a bit chilly to eat outside but the waterview is such that you can't be inside. We also felt a bit pressured in terms of the timing as we were one of the last table to finish but it was only 9:00pm...they should consider may be extending a bit their closing time.
Beautiful location overlooking the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty. The bread was delicious with just a hint of garlic. But the star was the Branzino with clams mussels and squid in a lemon butter sauce that was so outstanding that I wanted to lick the plate. Highly recommend.
We came here for a family celebration lunch and wanted a view of Lady Liberty and this spot did not disappoint. We had a table under a canopy (thankfully because it was a hot afternoon) facing the water--perfect! The service was attentive, professional and friendly and the food was delicious. All the dishes we ordered were made with fresh ingredients, bursting with flavor: chickpea and artichoke salad, pear salad, bruschetta with the ripest tomatoes, squid ink linguine with mussels, spaghetti with clams. Most memorable for me was the salmon tartare--beautifully plated with well balanced flavors and just a hint of spicy. All in all, a wonderful dining experience--we'll be back!
Food has improved since my last visit 2 years ago but the service still sullen and condescending. Burratta was quite wonderful, cod special excellent and orecchiette delicious. Would not recommend ordering coffee after dinner, demitasse serving in a large cup and no refill offered at $5 a cup is a ripoff. But the view...just wonderful and that's why I come back
