   Beautiful food in refined, yet relaxing surroundings. It's an old school vintage atmosphere, but not stuffy. The staff were all friendly, polite and attentive. The food was delicious, dinner was served with a great selection of wines to choose from. The whole experience felt like a big hug, comforting and warm with the best quality ingredients and taste.

   I thought that the food was absolutely excellent. The hotel decor seemed a little tired and there was little ambiance in the dining room.. I was also a little concerned because my companion ordered a glass of Chablis which the waiter chose but didn’t give us any warning that the glass of wine was going to cost £36 and so was a big and unexpected addition to an already expensive meal.

   Although the location is stunning and the service is 6 star, both my wife and I were disappointed with the afternoon cream tea Cheese scones were very dry Other scones, fruit sunk to the bottom of the scone Macarons - not to our taste Other desserts were in our opinion poor compared with other cream teas we have had elsewhere Sandwiches were fine Savouries were also not to our taste All was presented very well Big plus was the dog friendly environment Star of the show was the sausage roll

Obviously this is not how we wish any of our guests to feel and i am pleased to say this is not the usual feedback. Thank you for recognising how dog friendly we are. Dogs make any hotel better.    Not somewhere we can afford on a regular basis, but definitely worth it for a special treat, everything about Gidleigh is quality.

   Staff were all knowledgeable helpful and very welcoming. The room clean comfortable and lovely room service. The wine tasting was fun and informative. Tasting menu very good.

   We celebrated our low key wedding with Afternoon Tea at Gidleigh Park. The team went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and to accommodate all of our needs (including short notice dietary requirements due to an error on my part). The location and grounds were beautiful, the tea divine and the staff were very attentive but we didn't feel hassled or rushed. We had a wonderful afternoon and won't hesitate to return.

   Overall definitely an experience. The service was first class. The food was very good apart from the lobster starter which was inedible. The team responded well and it was dealt with. The ambience was like a library - considering it was a Saturday night. I expected to pay above normal levels but the food and wine together were really expensive. One final point - nothing to do with the restaurant itself, but for a non local the hotel is almost impossible to find at night as there is no signage.
