The sauces on the food were incredible! The short rib was my favorite. They recommended 6 dishes, but that ended up being too much food for 2 women. Service needs to be improved. We had lots of empty water glasses we had to flag someone down to fill. It is not a huge space, nice outdoor patio too and nice indoor bar area.
I went to Gideon Sweet to see what kinds of wonderful creations the two chefs behind the concept could possibly dream up. And I was so satisfied! It is almost all small plates, but good for sharing with one person to give you both a good taste. Our server, Sebastian, was phenomenal. He has a great energy and knows the food and wine incredibly well. Every dish we had was unique and delicious. I was in Chicago for business, and work in the culinary space, so I have had some amazing meals. While this isn't Michelin-star cuisine, it was a fabulous meal in a fun atmosphere that I will definitely revisit. I can't wait to go back when the front or back patios are open!
My husband and I had a dinner at Gideon Sweet. The atmosphere was great as well as the service (thanks to Sebastian), but there were not too many plates to compliment each other.
Everything was delicious
The mixed drinks were delicious, the food was beautifully presented and our server Adam was knowledgeable. attentive and perfect in every way. The restaurant is attractive but it is the cuisine that will guarantee our return. Did I mention the desserts? Our part of 4 split every dessert on the menu. It is hard to pick a favorite! A+
Mr Elliott was in the house the evening we dined - it would have been nice for him to say hi to his guests.
It was a bar with some finger food as opposed to what we expected - a restaurant with an interesting drink menu. The food was very expensive to top it off
We were celebrating a new job and had a great experience, food was good and drinks were fantastic. Our server was very helpful, engaged, and sincere. He recommended a rose that has become my absolute favorite!
Small Pours are fun. Craft Cocktails (Green Lady, Cocktail) are good. Some food is good (Roasted Heirloom Cauliflower, Fluke Carpaccio, Braised Goat Tostada) and some food is average (Crispy Potato Spiral, Prawns, Steak Tartare). All dishes are small plates, and they are VERY small. Service was poor. Waited about 20 minutes between plates arriving. There doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency with the wait staff or kitchen (open kitchen allows you to see food prep). The overall experience is not worth the check at the end of the visit. Disappointing because we were expecting better having visited GEB in the past.
Service and food was great! A little more casual than I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing!
Amazing all around. Drinks, Food and the price.
The food servings were so small, it was almost comical. Four of us ordered probably half of their menu and we left hungry and with $200 less dollars. They are small plates and hardly large enough to share. The food was good, nothing outstanding except the short ribs and the pasta. It was packed, had good energy, but also very loud and the hostess and staff were very nice. I don't often write reviews, but I have to say was I was disappointed by the night and will not be returning.
I had dined here before when it was geb/Graham Elliott Bistro & once again the food lives up to the talented chef's. Everything from the cocktails to the food are so well thought out with flavor combinations that fuse so well together, it is one delicious bite after another and the cocktails compliment the food wonderfully. Love the small plates also, my friend and I were able to try so many different dishes and I liked how some were brought out individually and some were brought out together, so many delicious flavors and all of them working together. A food lovers dream!! I also liked how the specials were brought out on a cart and you could choose to have one at that moment, very creative. Can't forget the service, which also was wonderful! Bravo for Gideon Sweet!!
This is not Merges of Yusho’s fame. Disappointing. At some point coolness needs to be about the food. Not at this joint. Save your money or go across the street to Maude’s to see how it’s really done, and has been done for years.
Very cool space and delicious (but deadly) cocktails. Food was fantastic, but if you have a huge appetite, I'm not sure it will be satisfied here. Great flavors.
Loved our server Sebastian!
Delicious. It’s a must go to place. The cauliflower is over the top
Every dish was interesting and delicious. It's better to go with a party of four so you can try more things.
I was expecting more of this place. Small dishes, but not great. After going twice to Graham Elliot bistro I was really exited about this place, unfortunately wasn’t that good.
We had a outstanding experience at Gideon Sweet - the food was both interesting and favorful. We had multiple small plates - all incrediby good but especially enjoyed the shortribs and hamachi collar. They were prepared perfectly - the shortrib was seared on the outside and tender on the inside and the hamachi was light and tender. The desserts were to die for - beignets with warm chocolate dipping sauce and a tropical parfait which was light and tastey. You cannot miss with any entry and the service was excellent - attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable.
My daughter and I went and enjoyed the casual atmosphere as well as our delightful and helpful server, Lindsey! She suggest 5 or 6 plates and 5 was perfect. We both thought the menu was pretty slight with selections but we were not disappointed. The pomelo salad - refreshingly good, Onion soup - rich & filling, braised goat tostada - surprisingly delicious, a couple specials not on the menu: Venison loin - unbelievably tender and yummy, seafood risotto - decadent. Dessert did not disappoint either! The beignets are fabulous and we finished as we started with the citrus parfait! All in all a definite place we will return to and try some of the other things on the menu!
Service was slow, semi-attentive. But this cld be because it was Valentine’s day. Food was tasty, but we had set menu so not sure what is on regular menu. Think it’s a good addition to the Randolph street selection.
I planned a special Valentine’s dinner for my sweetheart, with reservations made WEEKS in advance. We walked through the very hip and cool vibe of the dining room, past several open tables with adorable padded banquets to... an afterthought of a table next to the open kitchen and bathrooms, with short, unpadded stools.
And so our lackluster experience began...
Valentine’s Day held a prix fixe menu, but still plenty of options for a sampling of 4 plates each. Portions were tasting sized, often leaving us wanting just one more bite to share. Highlights were the king crab, scallops, and mushroom risotto. And we each tried two different cocktails - they were fantastic!
Unfortunately, our dinner order was ‘lost’ (or forgotten, like our table??) and only our first course was served after an inordinately long wait. Our adorable server, Sebastian, was aptly apologetic although no compensation was offered for the extended wait, a complimentary cocktail or even a couple of slices of crostini would have been appreciated.
Chef-owner Graham Elliot was on site, so it was disappointing that service was not on par with his presence.
I wanted to love this meal, but sadly I think it’s one-and-done. I have to go take a walk now to get the blood flow back in my bottom from sitting on those horrible and awkward stools....
Gorgeous ambiance with sleek, modern decor and warm lighting (as I said "sleek" and "warm" are difficult to achieve simultaneously, but they did it!) Food was playful, inventive and delicious
Loved the food, the drink (the French Champagne was the best I've ever had), the service. It is not a large place but the music and the conversation in the room just seemed to buzz rather than blare - made for great, fun conversation. I particularly like the that standard menu is small but what is unique are the "specials" that are crafted throughout the evening and brought through the restaurant "dim sum" style. We left full and very satisfied. Will be back and have recommended many times already. Stick to the script! it works.
Everything was absolutely delicious and the wait staff was amazing!
Everything was fantastic. Food was delicious, came out fast, and was a good value- I will be back for the purple sweet potato haystack! We loved the cocktails especially the concept behind the smaller ones and service was excellent. He gave great recommendations and we loved that he brought out chop sticks for some of the courses because it was easier to tackle with them.
Portions are tiny even for a small-plate place. Food was good but not outstanding. Staff seemed friendly but untrained, couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. Had a much better experience sitting at the bar than at the table.
Our meal at Gideon Sweet was one of the best experiences we've had in a very long time. The food has the usual playfulness that is characteristic of Graham Elliot served in a down-to-earth accessible environment. Loved it!
Very small portions but the food was EXCELLENT, just know when they say smaller plates they really mean it. Would highly recommend for delicious food.
Cool and fun atmosphere. Loud, but not a big deal. Service was great - Sebastian, our waiter, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and paid attention to us without being pushy. Roving food cart was a cool thing you don’t see at any restaurant. Cocktails were top notch!
Truly, this was one of our best meals of the last year. Service was great. The room is super-fun and energetic. Each dish was creative, and also delicious. Most used simple ingredients, but in a very innovative way. Avocado hummus sounded dull, but it used super-fresh veggies and was great. Sweet potato stack was an amazing (and messy!) jumble of fries -- and delicious. A nightly special (served dim sum-style) of pasta and mushrooms was amazing. Feel like we won the lottery -- we'll definitely be back.
Our favorite dishes were the lobster and the short rib.
A different experience from Graham Elliot, but nothing less than I expected from his new collaboration! Great food and fantastic service!
Drinks and desert were good. Food was meh. Place was very underheated. Booths were on casters so whenever the person behind you shifted you did too.
We were seated 45 minutes after our dinner reservation time. Upon being seated, our server place the Featured Specials List on our table and encouraged us to try them. Five minutes later, we ordered several items and were told two of the four were no longer available, they sold out. Oh, and, those were the two from the Featured List. Ridiculous! The Manager was wonderful and very apologetic. He sent over a glass of champagne for each of us and a complimentary appetizer. Of the items we did get to eat, only one was a complete hit. The rest, the flavor was not distributed. A couple bites were yummy, then, the next few bites were bland and had no spice or sauce at all. Underwhelmed, for sure.
We enjoyed everything that we tried and loved the steamed artichoke hat was on the special menu. The apple pie tart would have me returning every weekend if I lived closer.
We had the most wonderful experience last night at Gideon Sweet. My friend and I like to set a price point and have the waiter/tress bring out the best items. The food and wine was absolutely outstanding and unique. We were lucky enough to have Sebastian as our waitor. Not only is Sebastian warm and personable, but he blew us out of the water with his deep knowledge of each menu item and wine selection. I will definitely be back soon! If you book a reservation, make sure to ask for Sebastian! Cheers :)
Waited over 30 minutes for our reservation to be ready upon arrival. The hostess was unsympathetic that the table was not ready and did nothing to remedy or expedite the situation.
Food was overall good, if a bit uninspiring. Value was good for the west loop and the ambiance was nice, but there are too many good other options nearby to make a repeat stop for dinner, given the issues this place has.
We were very excited to try the food and this restaurant. When we got there, we had a reservation for 8:30 and were seated about 8:45 PM. No biggie. It was a bit busy. We sat down, the waiter was excellent, knowledgeable and kept us informed as to what was what happening with our food along the way. Food came out in good order and wow, it was excellent. The profiderole! Would highly recommend. Also, Graham was there, came by and asked us how it was at the end. Real nice guy!
