Gideon Sweet's menu was inspired by our favorite flavors at home and abroad. We wanted to highlight the cuisine and ingredients we love most, that we think you'll enjoy too. We serve small plates meant for sharing and tasting, along with daily specials featuring the freshest market ingredients.
Our bar program was created by nationally acclaimed bartender Alex Bachman, with a focus on thoughtfully executed, nuanced cocktails. We also serve a "small pour" menu of refined shots, an ideal way to taste more spirits and creative combinations. For the back bar, we partnered with Alex's company, Sole Agent, to offer a highly curated list of rotating rare and vint

Great brunch on the patio!
The service was outstanding!
Very slow for drinks and general service. Food was out pretty quick in stages
My wife and I sat on the back patio for a leisurely Saturday evening dinner. We were not rushed
We ordered 6 small plates and they were served at a perfect pace. Very innovative food pairings
and presentation. We enjoyed octopus with chorizo and crab leg with roe and seaweed.
We had a group of of 6 with 4 kids for brunch and the restaurant only had one high chair to provide. Also when asked if the bathroom has a changing table, the hostess said to use the bathroom floor. Very inappropriate and unprofessional!
The food was either really good or really bad. The small plates were extremely salty. Was particularly disappointed with the Mussels... there was more Italian sausage, potatoes, and onion then muscles.
The only small plate that was great was the Octopus. We ordered a total of 6 and I wouldn’t recommend any of the others.
Service was outstanding on the other hand. Such a shame, we were so excited.
The outdoor space is not so great (RM Champagne next door is much more inviting) and the indoor space is not much better, but the food is pretty good and the service is actually very good. We had an unfortunate incident with another guest who was doing something illegal and we thought we were doing the right thing by confronting it, but it turns out management didn't handle it very well. The other guest got verbally aggressive and was eventually escorted out, but not before it made us incredibly uncomfortable. We probably won't go back to this restaurant. If you go, the mussels are very good. Smaller than average portion, but very good. I'm usually a really positive diner and reviewer, but I chalked this one up to "don't get involved, just get a manager of the staff to address any issues with other patrons."
Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly and food and drinks were delicious. I recommend (if weather permit) dining in the patio. Very nice area. Overall, had a very pleasant time.
I picked this restaurant for my husband's birthday based on the menu and every single dish was fantastic! With the unique menu, I expected a stuffy and stiff environment however it was the exact opposite. The people were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and timed out our meal selections beautifully. This restaurant reminded us so much of our years in NYC stumbling on fantastic food in unique settings. We have already recommended it to many friends and will be back again!
The crab was too fishy. I was shocked that the quility of food was below expectation. I've been in vegas and i went to Gordon Ramsay's restaurants ( all of them ) they were excellent.
I ordered meat ball it wasn't a dish that could be served in one of the best chefs in the world (Graham Elliot).
What a great place for small dishes and drinks! The wait staff is very attentive to you and your party. They do a good job of spacing out your dishes so you are not overwhelmed or over-populated at the table (especially if there are two of you because the tables are perfectly cozy!).
The indoor area is a casual setting with comfy arrangements for all size parties. The outdoors though, this the place to be during good weather! Not much more to say except - sit outside when you can. Period.
The food; if your order does not include the octopus and/or rye linguine, you will miss a huge treat! The potato spiral is very popular and the hummus is a perfect starter.
Come to Gideon Sweet, enjoy the food, enjoy the atmosphere, pick your favorite small drink or regular pour, sit back, eat and enjoy! $$
Food was really bad.
Food and service were great. Bar team and the cocktails were stellar!
Small portions- 2 bites for $20- not very flavorful. Skip it and go anywhere else in West Loop for a better meal.
We’ve been fans of Graham Elliot for several years. While we were in Chicago it was a must do to go to his restaurant. The meal was outstanding, just a great night. The cherry on top of was chef Elliot standing a few feet away from us! We didn’t actually expect him to be in the kitchen that night so for us to be able to not only eat at his restaurant but also see him was a major, major, major geek out moment for us. The octopus is a must have!
This was a team work dinner and some thought the menu was too limited, but I really loved it. May be better for a date night or a friends' get-together though.
A must try restaurant hidden in the glut of options in the West Loop. The cocktail list was extensive and creative, and home of one of the best old fashions I've ever had. Menu focuses on sharing, and is definitely for an adventurous or experienced diner. Great energy inside the restaurant and great people watching in the outdoor patio. Server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
The food is exceptional. They advertise the menu as small-plates, but each dish is filling and good for sharing. Everything we ate was outstanding. Great flavor combinations. The service was also fantastic. The wait person was attentive and so helpful, but not overly attentive, which is what I like. She didn't miss a beat.
We were seated by a friendly and informative woman who’s name I can’t remember (Megan?), explained how the menu/ordering worked, and served us water to start. Sebastian the server took over from there. He was attentive without being cloying. Great and varied choices! We had the avocado hummus, hamachi crudo, the king crab, gyro meatballs, tortellini and one more I can’t remember- all were spectacular but the standouts for us were the hamachi crudo and the gyro meatballs. I’d recommend the sake pour. I had the house aperol/gin spritz, very nice! And we had rosé which was tasty also. Sebastian gave great advice about how much to order, the plates were served with perfect timing and we got out of there in plenty of time for concert at the United Center. I’d highly recommend.
Excellent service and really good food. They chef went out of this way to make sure we had an outstanding experience.
I love small plates, but it is always an issue with portioning when there are more than two people IMO. The food was good and the service was decent. Our waitress got a little salty about us questioning a lack of info on the menu and said some random things throughout the meal—not a big deal to me. Overall, some of the dishes were really good (Rye Pasta dish) and some fell flat (bone marrow fried balls). The atmosphere was fun and fresh. I would definitely go back.
great shared plates! Awesome place to go with friends and try a bunch of great food. Amazing service also.
Gideon Sweet was wonderful! Great cocktails and the service was amazing. We were treated to a few items they were testing out, which was an added bonus! Super cute and trendy space. Recommended!
Server was great knowledgeable and very pleasant !!! Food and drinks were delicious !!!
The food was outstanding. I think some of the portions were too small even for small plates. Could have more selections. Menu very small.
Matthias , my wife and I had a great meal . we like the plate size , so we could test a few more dishes.
the Old Fashion was as good as Billy Sunday
Overpriced for what you get, especially compared to what you’d be able to get instead in the area.
Really cool space-I can't believe this used to be GEB! Great cocktails, tasty food. Unfortunately, the service and the timing of our dishes was not quite as precise and wonderful as I've come to expect from Chef Elliot's past restaurants. In the grand scheme of all the restaurants where we could have celebrated my wife's birthday, it was fun, but, unfortunately, it did not quite live up to our well-founded expectations (hence the 3 stars).
I had a very good experience here. The food was delicious with the lamb, octopus and their strawberry tart being the standouts. I wish they offered two bone marrow croquettes instead of just one with your order. My friend and I had to split it which left a tiny bite for each of us.
The service was great from the moment I walked in. Our server, Clarissa, was fantastic and made for a fun evening.
Ramp soup... so very good....will only eat that next time...just kidding, but it was that good! Potato spiral was really a whole potato, probably slightly baked a lightly deep fried...ok. fish dish good. Pasta ok. Dessert so very good...had the beinets. Service attentive .
The food was nice and the dessert was great, took some dessert that was served with brie ice-cream, soooo yummy! The cocktails was also really good.
The food was delicious and the waitress eas very helpful helped us decide what to order for dinner
Even though we had the worst table in the restaurant (next to the restroom) the meal was good and service was spotty (we had to remind the waitress about the drinks ordered). Plates portions were small but adequate. We probably won’t return.
Portions are much smaller than your typical small plate establishment. Really only suitable for one person per portion. Tasty items for the most part
Enjoyed several delicious small bites - great place to go if you want to share with friends. Loved the comfortable yet very lively decor. Service was friendly and attentive. I am already looking forward to my next visit so that I can try more on the list!
The food overall is good. A few dishes were absolutely fantastic like the short rib and the pappardelle. The others were ok to good. Overall a nice evening. The service could have really been more attentive.
A very memorable experience. Don't be fooled by the seemingly low prices for the food, everything is small so you'll end up spending a lot if you want to fill up. With that said, everything we had was at least good, and some of the things (the Arctic Char Poke, the Pappardelle, the Beef Tartare) were amazing. As desserts go, the Halo Halo was the highlight.
The restaurant was extremely accommodating for our dietary restrictions (nut allergy and one vegetarian). The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and service was great overall.
In the end we ended up spending more than we expected, but it was very much worth it. You just need to keep in mind that this is not an inexpensive place even though almost everything on the menu is less than $15. As long as that's fine, Gideon Sweet is an amazing choice.
Great food and service. Small plates so bring something who likes to share. Lots of options. Casual atmosphere.
Brilliant experience. Gifted kitchen and the staff was on point! Not a detail was missed. Bravo! Nice job!!
Delicious and can’t wait to go back!
