Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Okay, well, as per usual, we waited for our 7:30 reservation and got seated after 8, I think. BUT, the hostess made up for it by bringing shrimp cocktail and crab salad IMMEDIATELY to our table. Our waiter, Micheal, was superb; the steaks divine. I think there was some sticker shock with our friends when they saw the bill -- but when you are paying $60/steak, hey, it's gonna be a bit of a tab. We were at Hugo's Frog Bar the next day....all good.
Gibson's has been my Chicago favorite restaurant for years. Ever since my first experience there. It's a little pricey but you get excellent quality, presentation, service and a caring knowledgeable staff. I'm never disappointed with anything. The finest cuts of meat, accompanying wine list and large portions of sides big enough to share.
A perennial favorite for us as we always do a lunch when there. This past Saturday we again made our visit. Felt like “30 minutes or it’s free.” Totally rushed. We ordered Bloody Mary’s and those appeared promptly and were great. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, salad and two sandwiches. Our waiter asking, “would you like this out all together?” No. So the shrimp comes and it’s pretty good. Barely finished with that, the salad and sandwiches arrive together.
We arrived at 1210 and were walking out at 1245.
Apparently there were a couple of specials (we heard them explained to the table next to us) and the fresh bread delivered to the tables around us looked good too.
Sandwiches were good (French dip and filet sliders). Fries sucked.
Subpar experience all in all
I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant. I had a black, burned and hard Filet Mignon that looked like a piece of carbon. I also ordered a normal glass of red wine (not Brunello !!) and a regular baked potato.
I payed for this meal a total of 105 dollars. This prize is absolutely unreasonable (I was not eating in a 3 Star Michelin restaurant), in addition the place is noisy, crowded and I waited 30 minutes before getting the table.
Have gone there for years. It was the first time I didn't like the food.
Also didn't like where we were seated, although I think the friend I was with asked for that table and was seated before I got there.
Wouldn't hesitate to return, though.
Our waiter was wonderful.
We were not hungry much so we ordered just one steak for 2(22oz including bone). It did contains soup or salad or both of them, and the breads prior to steak were enough to enjoy for us. And the steak, it was so nice! Well seared superficial, very juicy and tender meat! We were impressed by not only the food but also passionate service and comfortable atmosphere. We really enjoyed. Thank you.
I wanted to pick a nice restaurant to celebrate my brother's semi-retirement, before we headed to the Blackhawks game. We had an early reservation and were seated in a nice booth as soon as we arrived. Our server, Jeannie, was amazing and could not have been nicer or more helpful. Our steaks and side dishes were prepared perfectly, and we were finished in plenty of time to get to the United Center.
The food, service, and atmosphere made it a memorable night. And the Hawks won 7-3!!!
We always have terrific food and wonderful staff. The service is always outstanding. Hard to find a place with consistent quality of food and consistent service that is above and beyond.
I love Gibsons but I really dislike all the changes you made to RL. I used to dine thee at RL monthly and have not been there for the past 2 years -once you changed the staff outfit to aprons, removed table side desserts and changed the menu, RL was no longer a gem of a place. It became too Gibson and no longer unique. Such a disappointment.
The food was fine but for the price I was very disappointed with the experience
There were a few birthdays that night. I told the waiter this was our first time here and it was my wife's birthday. At the end of our meal I inquired about something sweet for her birthday because I noticed the other few tables he was taking care of so happened to be celebrating birthdays as well. He was very polite offered to take their pictures and everything! I was appalled that when it came to us he gave my wife what it amounts to was a caramel sundae. Didn't offer to take our pictures or anything he kinda of just blew us off and went right back to the other tables too check on them. smh..
The worse $250 I have ever spent. I put so much planning because this was a special birthday for her. I can never get that day back again.
