Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten at Gibson’s 6 times and every dining experience has been wonderful. The waiter was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were always refilled and the wine selection was superb. We celebrated our 21st Anniversary recently and Gibson’s always adds a nice touch. We look forward to dining there again when we return to Chicago next year.
This was our second year traveling to Chicago to celebrate a birthday. The first year was amazing. This year was a big disappointment. I indicated in my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. I asked our special guest if they wanted anything special for dessert for their birthday loudly enough for the waiter to hear 2X! And nothing, though plenty of other birthdays were acknowledged. Our special guest just said forget it-let’s celebrate somewhere else with an after dinner drink. Our table was right in front of the kitchen door and it was not a table big enough for three. We had to set stuff on the chair and we only got one side and two entrees between three of us! Also, one of our guests kept getting bumped throughout the meal. I get it was a busy night, but I made reservations two months prior, paid plenty for our meal, and ended up very disappointed, especially given how positive our prior experience was. If you don’t have space as a restaurant to create a positive dining experience, don’t cram people in a space just to make money. We will be picking a new restaurant next year.
This was our first visit to Gibson's after years of promises that 'next time in Chicago' we would go....well it's back on the list for the next time! David was superb, the steaks were exquisite and even though we were late for our reservation, they worked us in nicely. 5 of 5!
We went for our anniversary dinner and we were quite late as an event downtown held us back in traffic for quite awhile. We were still seated so I’m grateful for that. Only thing I was unhappy about was how I made a note about it being our anniversary and I was hoping the restaurant would be able to do something for me to surprise her but unfortunately, it was never acknowledged. I think this is the only restaurant I’ve been where this has happened especially with the price tag. The little things matter so hopefully another future couple won’t experience the same.
My favorite steakhouse in Chicago. Always good. This server was reluctant to comply with our requests. For example, my wife ordered her salad dressing on the side because she doesn't like a LOT of dressing. The server said "I will just put a little dressing on your salad. If it's too much you can send it back". Well, it was too much dressing. We didn't send it back because we don't like to do that. Why wouldn't he just serve the dressing on the side?? The server made other mistakes, too. But the food is still "wow good".
For being a so-called Chicago legend, this was disappointing. It’s a steak place so the one area you’d expect them to get right is steak temperature & it was done just ok. The steaks were solid, not nowhere close to the best places I’ve been. For the prices & ambience, I wouldn’t go back nor recommend.
Gibson’s is my favorite Chicago restaurant. The menu has great options, large portions, and fabulous side dishes. We started with a shrimp cocktail. They serve the really large shrimp with a horseradish cocktail sauce. Two each is a great starter. Salad choices are perfect. We’ve had steaks in the past and also a pork chop. The best and biggest slice of lemon meringue pie you’ll ever see! Ask for Jeanie if you’re lucky to have her as your server. She’s the best!
Came for a visit to an iconic 'Chicago Steakhouse'; had a good drink in bar w/ friendly bar tender; warmly seated at table for our reservation... unfortunately that ended the 'excellent experience'... basically the food was a disappointment: my 7 oz filet was not even warm, let alone hot; spouses planked white fish, while a large portion, was much too dry. Just kind of ordinary meal, not an 'iconic experience'. (Apple pie desert was tasty but much too large and much too much crust.... I prefer quality over quantity, always).
Our food server Greg was fabulous. We were 2 women dining & we were concerned about the proportion sizes of the steaks. He said the baked potatoes were large & that we could share. He was right. They were huge! Steaks were perfectly prepared. Front of house staff handled backed up reservations & a packed bar and waiting room with Grace. Highly recommend
After reading all the reviews and testimonials, we made a special trip to be here. Unfortunately the food and overall experience was lacking. Food was ok at best and although the service was very attentive we always felt rushed. For the amount of money we spent I can think of 10-15 restaurants just off the top of my head that I would go to before I came back here.
Food was unbelievable. The server made sure to let us know which dishes were meant for two so we didn't order too much food. Porterhouse was cooked to our liking, twice baked potato was delicious, shrimp cocktail was enormous! Waiter was very attentive without being annoying. Would absolutely go back again!
Gibson’s is an uncomfortable, overpriced steak house with average food. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, the person at the table next to us was basically sitting at our table, the restaurant is very tight and the food is very pricey and in my opinion not worth it at all.
Me and my wife are from Florida. We have visted Chicago three times and all three times we make reservations at Gibsons. Everything we try there is amazing the WR Bone in Ribeye is my favorite steak and they always cook it to perfection. It was our Anniversary and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, Crab bisque and great steaks. Until next time Gibson’s.
