Food was good how ever the service was less than what is to be expected at the price point of the restaurant.
To start we were seated at a small 2 seat table in between two 4 seat tables. They had to pull the table out so my girlfriend could get in. It was over crowded and hard to move around inside the restaurant. Seemed like they were trying to pack too many people in to make the extra few hundred dollars. By doing this they were degrading the dinning experience for others.
We got our food, my girlfriends fillet was slightly under cooked but she asked me not to say anything and my Chicago Cut was cooked perfectly. We ordered the double backed potato as a side and was quite surprised when it came out and only had a slice of cheese on top rather than shredded like most.
When we were near finishing the gentlemen busing tables was almost pushing us out the door. He came with his try and as he picked half of the potato and put it on his try he asked if we needed any to go boxes. We both said we did and assumed he was going to take our meals and box them up since that’s what we saw him do for the table next to us. He left with the tray and came back with 2 boxes but no potato, my girlfriend was quite upset since she was not finished with that.
He threw the boxes on the table for us to pack up our own food.
This is a horrible representation of the Gibson brand. For the price you charge for food the service should match it.
Best steakhouse ever! The steaks were amazing. I had the Chicago cut and my wife had the filet. The steaks were cooked perfectly and delicious. Our service was top notch. We will definately be returning the next time we are in town.
We came for our son's birthday. We had a beautiful corner table overlooking the little square. Our server was excellent. We got steak, soup, salad and the halibut. Everyone was happy. The fries were also delicious and the sweet potato excellent. We loved the strawberry shortcake for dessert! Wish it wasn't just a seasonal dessert. Thanks Gibsons for making my son's birthday special.
We loved the dining experience and have been to Gibson’s multiple times. I told Gibson’s about this lunch being my retirement lunch and expected the waitress to read notes on the reservation and acknowledge the event. I did not expect anything free but why ask if it’s a special occasion/event when making the reservation if Gibson’s does not acknowledge it.
Even with a reservation, we waited about half an hour to be seated. But this is Gibsons, and not surprising.
Took my wife and two sons here (their first time), and they were so excited. Our server was fantastic (there 20 years!), and witty and kind. Her assistant was on top of things too, filling waters, clearing empty dishes, cleaning the table — all very promptly!
We all had steaks (sons had 14-oz filet; wife had 10-ounce filet, and I had the ribeye). All done to perfection. Sides were good, and plenty to share! Cocktails and wine all very nice. No room for dessert, except for the one son: Giant piece of chocolate mousse pie! Incredible!
It’s quite the experience, and I’d recommend it to any steak lover. Oh, and it was kind of fun to have a NY Yankee at the table next to us.
Greg is an amazing waiter. Food is always wonderful but it was the first time i tried the sea bass. It was outstanding although the portion was very very small.
We got married one month ago upstairs and it was so nice to be back.

Absolutely a must! Fabulous staff and dinning experience. Really busy street with great vibe all around. Parking garages are everywhere so don’t fret that.
Phenomenal steaks and service! The food was absolutely delicious and our waitstaff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We were presented with the various cuts of meat prior to our meal where each cut was masterfully described to us. Our glasses were never empty and the staff was never far off if we needed something. Would highly recommend
If filet mignon is important in your life, you will enjoy the respect with which both it and the one who dines upon it are treated at Gibsons. My date and I each requested our meat cooked quite differently, she without salt and well done, me seasoned and rare, and each of our steaks was perfect. The bread was fresh and hearty, the soup was excellent, and the vegetables were not overcooked.

Great food and HUGE portions! Definitely going back! Split your meals! Also make reservations as far in advance as possible. Like 2-3 weeks!!
Our server, Joseph, was amazing! So professional and attentive. I ordered my steak medium rare plus and it arrived a little more than medium and he swiftly replaced my steak, no questions asked. Joseph said he was glad I said something because they just celebrated their 30 year anniversary and expect their customers to be 100% satisfied at all times. Also, I had indicated on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday and gave us an amazing birthday dessert. When finding out that one of us had an allergy issue he quickly provided an additional dessert. Impressive! There’s a reason why Gibson’s is one of the most popular steak restaurants in the U.S.

This is by far one of the best dining experiences. My husband and I were on vacation and a trip to Chicago would not be complete without a visit to Gibson's. Beside the food being exceptional, the service and ambiance are top rate. Our server Gregory was fantastic. You walk out feeling like you are the most important customer they serve. We love Gibsons!

Gibson’s was great! Especially this location with the terrific steaks and the staff was fantastic.
Great cocktails, great service, great wine, and generally great food. Would get a 5 but for committing the cardinal sin for an expensive steakhouse - over cooking the steak! I made it clear I wanted the center red and barely warm, which the waiter confirmed would be medium rare. But it came back medium or medium well. So I ended up with a good steak rather than a great one. (I’m not going to waste that meat by sending it back!). When you pay $50+ for a steak you’re paying a lot of it for perfection in the chef’s timing, and it’s disappointing when you don’t get it.
My grandson graduated from Purdue University with a degree in engineering in May, and I suggested that we could celebrate over a steak dinner. The location was entirely is choosing. However, when he chose Gibson's, because he heard about the quality of steak served from an acquaintence, I was elated! My friends and family had been Gibson customers for years! Looks like a new family generation has found Gibsons, and I couldn't be more proud!
Filet salad is a fantastic lunch item.
Wine list was extensive and reasonably priced.
Our server was very attentive and polished.
I would rate this Gibson’s as one of the BEST restaurants in Chicago.

I worked at Gibson’s so it’s my home away from home. I love the food and the service is second to none. Everyone goes overboard to ensure you’re happy with your meal and any other requirements for your special visit. The environment is great for people watching and the food is always excellent.
Had a reservation for 8:30 checked in on time was not seated until 9:15. We were quite annoyed with the wait however Gibson’s made up for the wait without us saying anything by bringing a plate of fresh crab salad and shrimp cocktail. Kudos to Gibson’s for recognizing the excessive wAit and making up for it. Meal was fantastic as always.
Absolutely fabulous experience! To start, as he was leaving to place our drinks order, our server overheard my wife wish me Happy Anniversary, so he immediately returned and wished us Happy Anniversary - and at the end of our meal we were comped to an ice cream sundae dessert. He explained our choices clearly. And, service from all the support staff was equally outstanding. But the bottom line is the food, and our steaks (a Chicago cut and a small fillet) were the best we have ever had! And overall, as fine a special occasion meal as I can remember.
Best place ever
Easily some of the best steaks any of us has had in our lives. It was a fantastic setting, and as we recanted stories of our younger years with old-fashioned cocktails in hand, we had an incredibly memorable night. As one friend put it, "It's one of the top three meals in my life, hands down. For the food, the atmosphere and the conversation."
We will definitely be back.
Given that this restaurant is considered by many to be the best steakhouse in Chicago, we expected more. The food was average: the vinaigrette was mostly vinegar, the steak was under-seasoned (when they provide their house seasoning at every table, you know they season conservatively), the twice-baked potato was bland (just mixed with chives and topped with melted cheddar), and the pecan pie was dry and burnt - practically inedible. We will not be returning.
I was so impressed with everything about our experience. From the food to the ambiance it was stunning! Although both of us do not normally eat meat, we both had the filets. They were delicious and cooked to our specifications. Kudos to all!
