Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago

Excellent food!!! Highly recommend
The steaks at Gibson’s rivals or surpasses Capital Grille. Highly recommend Gibson’s while visiting Chicago.
Food was fantastic but we felt that they needed our table quickly as service was rushed
There was a private event and restaurant was fully booked so reservation wait time was more than 30 min but Gibson’s comped us drinks from the bar and a shrimp cocktail and crab salad appetizer!!! Impressive. All the steak is divine. We had filet mignon and NY cut. Cooked perfectly. Their signature double baked potato was awesome. Pricey but well worth it.
Friendly, helpful and efficient service. Very large portions. Very popular.
Everthing delicious, the best roasted prime rib! Excelent service.
Amazing place. Great food and a very nice experience
Good restaurant but I’ve been charged 2 Tomás in my card for the total amount of the bill when the instructions were only 50% of the total amount and now I will be 7 days with this significant amount hold by the bank because of this silly mistake
La host no es nada amable.
We came to celebrate me finishing the marathon. Service was exceptional, aside from being sat almost 40 minutes after our reservation. But it was a busy night. Some of our food was cold, but it was delicious. We will be back when we return to Chicago!
Great steaks and food. Waiter was excellent. Friendly and attentive and got everything right.
Had reservations but still stood waiting for half an hour. Steak was over cooked, very thin on one side, sent it back. The totally nailed it the second time and brought out 2 shrimps while I waited and my friends ate their meal.
Amazing food and service. The steak and dessert were incredible.
Good experience overall. A lot of business based on reputation and marketing I am sure. We were placed in a very busy part of the restaurant. The service was decent. We ate the previous week in Joe's and on balance food was better overall but the ambiance and location was not just a good.
Honesty I’ve eaten a lot of steaks at high end steakhouses with many sides and this may have been the best one! Definitely top 3! Bone in ribeye cannot go wrong!
Excellent meal and service. We asked for a good table and the reply was sure we'll seat you with a window table. The window view was nice, but it was beside the wait station/ desk. Employees standing and working right beside your dining experience. Other than that it was a good evening.
I had a great time at Gibsons. My party of 11 were greeted and seated in a timely manner. I gave 4 stars for the food and not 5 because the chicken was extremely dry. Other than that, I enjoyed all the food. Great customer service
I have been going to Gibsons for almost 20 years, I loved it when I lived in Chicago and after moving 11 years ago I have been going back to Gibsons every time I’m back in Chicago for business or for a personal trip.
I booked a reservation for 11 people to celebrate a few of us that ran the marathon this past Sunday (10/13). We were eating at 3:30pm when the restaurant was not busy at all, particularly for Gibsons’s standards, but they made us wait 25 minutes to get us our table. We called ahead to say we were going to be 5-10 minutes late and they told us if we were more than 15 minutes late we’d lose our table; this is standard across restaurants, but we rushed to be on time and it made our 25-minute wait a lot more annoying given there was no apology for making us wait.
The table for 11 was a poorly-formed combination of two round tables right by a door and in the middle of where everyone was walking through; we asked for a change that could not be accommodated even though it showed poor preparation for a reservation made more than 3 months in advance.
Finally, in almost 20 years I’ve never had a waiter at Gibsons that hasn’t been anything but outstanding. This was until Sunday when our server had a terrible attitude, was simply unpleasant and refused to answer questions with the “charm and personality” that the staff at Gibsons is known for. As mentioned earlier, we ate very early in the afternoon and the place was not busy; there was no excuse for this behavior and it’s a shame given we came from out of town, we were celebrating that a few of us finished the Chicago Marathon, and we thought we had picked the perfect “Chicago place” to celebrate.
Gibsons was a disappointment this time, I’m surprised that I could ever say that given how much I’ve loved this place for so long.
Great service and great food!!
Delicious, fun, good energy. Excellent wait staff
Best steakhouse in Chicago. Service and food were amazing. Make reservations, bar is crowded too! Really good value, food and wine, as compared to where I am from.
A wonderful dining experience. The steak was the best I have ever had
We had a 6pm reservation and were not sat until 6:30. No check in or acknowledgment/apology for the extreme delay. A lot of guests along with us were left confused and wondering why we weren’t getting sat. Something to keep an eye on.
Great, as always. Very tricky getting a spot in the piano bar. You’re better off being sneaky and hawking people’s tables whom might soon cash out than you are to ask staff if there are any tables available. We like to sit in the bar area for a more lively experience, but, this was not easy, this time and we made the mistake of relying on staff who claimed they would help keep an eye and then didn’t.
Steaks are phenomenal, wide selection and price point as far as beverages. Atmosphere through the roof.
Food is fantastic. I’ve been to many Steakhouses around the country and this is right up there with all of them (as far as the food goes). Wait staff is awesome. They are handling multiple tables and make you feel special. The only complaint would be that you are packed in like sardines. I’ve been here in the past, and I will absolutely go back, but I just wish that they would put more than 8 inches between tables. We were lucky and had a great couple next to us, who bought us dessert for our anniversary (the carrot cake is best I’ve ever had and can “literally” feed 8-10). It just lacks in any privacy, if that is important.
Excellent food. Some of the best halibut that I have ever had.
Made a reservation 2 weeks prior to arrival but ended up being seated directly in front of the kitchen door.
After being seated the waiter took another 20 min to acknowledge us then another 15 to take our order. After 10 minutes he came back to take our order again because he forgot he already took our order.
We ordered the bone in ribeye and the large lobstertail. The ribeye was mediocre and the lobstertail was overcooked.
Ive frequented Gibsons for the last 20 yrs and I believe that this will be last of my visits. There are way better establishments in Chicago for the $$$.
Way too many patrons seated compared to the available space. Could not hear anything due to the crowd concentration. Could barely move without bumping into the seat next/behind me. Not what I’m used to, given how much was spent.
Good food and good services. One thing to mention - we arrived almost 30 minutes late due to traffics but was still served a table in a very polite manner. This is appreciated!
My husband and I were there to celebrate our recent marriage. Our server Scott went above and beyond to make sure that our wine complimented our steaks and to talk us through the menu. He was very detail oriented and friendly. The food was amazing!
Always a wonderful and satisfying experience!
Gibsons is the best steakhouse by far in the downtown Chicago area, I would tell you to give it a try, you will not be disappointed
Wonderful as usual
Food and service are outstanding. It is noisy and hard to hold a business conversation.
Gibson’s never disappoints!
The lobster roll is clearly “the best in Chicago” ! Really Good! If you haven’t ordered it, it’s time you tried it!!
The service is always good and the hostess and other personal are all extremely pleasant and welcoming.
I’ll return for more fine dining.
Great food and service. Recommended 👍
Great as usual
