Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Gibson’s is my favorite Chicago restaurant. The menu has great options, large portions, and fabulous side dishes. We started with a shrimp cocktail. They serve the really large shrimp with a horseradish cocktail sauce. Two each is a great starter. Salad choices are perfect. We’ve had steaks in the past and also a pork chop. The best and biggest slice of lemon meringue pie you’ll ever see! Ask for Jeanie if you’re lucky to have her as your server. She’s the best!
Came for a visit to an iconic 'Chicago Steakhouse'; had a good drink in bar w/ friendly bar tender; warmly seated at table for our reservation... unfortunately that ended the 'excellent experience'... basically the food was a disappointment: my 7 oz filet was not even warm, let alone hot; spouses planked white fish, while a large portion, was much too dry. Just kind of ordinary meal, not an 'iconic experience'. (Apple pie desert was tasty but much too large and much too much crust.... I prefer quality over quantity, always).
Our food server Greg was fabulous. We were 2 women dining & we were concerned about the proportion sizes of the steaks. He said the baked potatoes were large & that we could share. He was right. They were huge! Steaks were perfectly prepared. Front of house staff handled backed up reservations & a packed bar and waiting room with Grace. Highly recommend
After reading all the reviews and testimonials, we made a special trip to be here. Unfortunately the food and overall experience was lacking. Food was ok at best and although the service was very attentive we always felt rushed. For the amount of money we spent I can think of 10-15 restaurants just off the top of my head that I would go to before I came back here.
Food was unbelievable. The server made sure to let us know which dishes were meant for two so we didn't order too much food. Porterhouse was cooked to our liking, twice baked potato was delicious, shrimp cocktail was enormous! Waiter was very attentive without being annoying. Would absolutely go back again!
Gibson’s is an uncomfortable, overpriced steak house with average food. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, the person at the table next to us was basically sitting at our table, the restaurant is very tight and the food is very pricey and in my opinion not worth it at all.
Me and my wife are from Florida. We have visted Chicago three times and all three times we make reservations at Gibsons. Everything we try there is amazing the WR Bone in Ribeye is my favorite steak and they always cook it to perfection. It was our Anniversary and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, Crab bisque and great steaks. Until next time Gibson’s.
If you want to experience a Chicago steakhouse, this is the one. The menu is the standard tour de force for a steakhouse. We had the shrimp cocktail, filet, and lake whitefish. All were executed as expected, including the fact that the fish was overcooked (they do steak, not seafood). HOWEVER, DO NOT order dessert. We made the mistake of ordering the chocolate mousse pie. It was no pie and the slice that they brought to our table would have served six people easily. The portion was ridiculously absurd to the point where we felt taken advantage of by the restaurant.
Second only perhaps to Dan Tana's in Los Angeles, Gibson's is my favorite steak house in the country. Definitely the best in Chicago. They've got their own special USDA designation, for pete's sake. The cuts are impressively varied, and I always enjoy the in depth "Meat Show" demonstration provided tableside by Gibson's experienced servers. The preparation is flawless. The sauces sublime. The side dishes are absolutely delicious. The bartenders are supremely skilled. And perfectly positioned at the heart of the "Viagra Triangle," Gibson's also dishes up some of the best local ambience and people watching in the city. For me, no Chicago visit is complete without a visit to the corner of Rush Street and Bellevue Place.
Excellent service. Staff friendly and attentive. 5pm reservation, had a seat by the window and had nice views with people watching. Filet was cooked perfectly. Baked potatoes are enormous. All sides and steaks are enormous, sharable for sure. Would go again for sure.
I find many steakhouses to be almost indistinguishable. Hunk of meat, wedge salad, crème spinach. Gibson offers an excellent hunk of meat, done creatively and prepared well. The sides were also served with an imaginative flair, presented by an impeccably professional waiter. Good times, fun atmosphere
If there was any criticism, it was that it felt a bit rushed. They do it without you even really knowing it because the staff were still very polite, etc. I would never complain about quick service but for having an app, then a salad and a steak of that caliber and price, it seems like it should take at least an hour. Food was incredible though.
We were told to ear here by many friends! It did not disappoint! We sat on the enclosed patio and Rich was our waiter...he was so great! We had a large ribeye (we split it) and I added Crab legs to it...best I’ve ever had...creamed spinach was to die for! We will be back! Hi
