Great food, excellent wine list and a spirited environment all made for a great night.
Fantastic food and passionate staff. Wonderful meal
Our second visit, because it was so good on first. Service was excellent, but the food was a mixed bag. Some dishes were excellent, some not so much. Overall disappointing given this was a special occaision.
We LOVE Gia - it is by far the best food and service in Larkspur if not all of Marin! The ambiance is wonderful - it is intimate and you can actually hear a conversation at your table! We avoid the big boring chains and love the quality of food and service of a smaller venue. The food at Gia's is superb - cooked exactly the way you asked and a vegetarian in our group spoke to our waiter and the kitchen prepared a special dish to her liking. The Tiramisu is the best I've had outside of Italy and large enough to share between three (then the restaurant offered us a second dessert on the house after we raved about the food. The Italian wine recommended by the waiter was spectacular and only $60 a bottle - amazing!
We absolutely love this restaurant and it is well worth the little walk through town. We don't really understand why anyone goes anywhere else in Larkspur!
Added bonus - our dog is welcome at the spaciously placed tables on the patio - it just doesn't get any better!
With homemade pasta, a daily menu, delicious Italian fare, really friendly service and attention, this is a great find. We'll be coming back often.
Wonderful food. Good selections. Great service. Sit on the back patio if possible
Reviewing a restaurant on the basis of one visit is utter folly. We have now dined at Gia four times, and can attest to the fact that it is for real. Pietro, the host, affable and very helpful with both food and wine suggestions, is from Umbria. Stefano, the skilled chef from Rome, is also quite affable and prepares several dishes in true Roman style (e.g., real carbonara, caccio e pepe!). Together, they make one's Italian dining experience here in the Bay Area a faithful reflection of one you would have in Italy. The menu is small but varied enough to meet different tastes and dietary desires. Stefano might be willing to prepare a dish off the menu, within reason. The wine list is quite varied and interesting, with some fine wines of good value.
So now, I'm very happy to say, we have two excellent, small Italian restaurants in Marin that distinguish themselves from the many eggplant and red sauce factories. If you want to go small and personable for authentic Italian dining, enjoy Gia in Larkspur and Luna Blu in Tiburon. Both rise above the rest.
Absolutely the most authentic Italian restaurant in Marin. Dining at Gia reminds me of eating with my relatives in Italy - so welcoming and the food is outstanding. Fresh ingredients and simple food done perfectly - they’ve got the best carbonara I’ve ever had in the States.
FANTASTIC ravioli. The papardelle with bolognese was good, calamari was good. Bread is great. Excellent service.
Excellent in every way. Pietro is the best waiter ever!
Thoughtful, well prepared food. Great service. The hospitality was excellent!
We were there on a slow day and had great service and attention with fun wait staff! High five!
Poor service. Good not good.
Despite the busyness and hubbub of Mother’s Day our food was excellent, hot and tasty. Kudos to Pietro and our server Tor. Very friendly and busy.
We thought it was good, but we didn't love it. The servicer and service were nice, we just didn't love any one item we ordered.
Excellent pappardelle with fresh porcinis and shaved truffles. The waiter even comped a glass of an Umbrian Sagrantino to go with this Umbrian dish. Great pear tarte. Very friendly service.
Gia Ristorante never fails to please. It has become our "go-to" restaurant when friends are visiting or for special occasions. We've never had a dish that was less than perfect--and the service is so friendly and accommodating. The wine list has some great Italian wine selections as well. Highly recommended!
I ordered the T bone for 2. I’d suggest telling the quests the prices for specials. If you’re hosting the meal it’s not a comfortable question to ask your server. I understand the marketing benefit but it’s not customer friendly. The steak was pricey at $88 but excellent. The experience of having the chef/owner cutting the steak at the table was very cool. Loved chowing down on the bone.
Excellent in all ways. Fabulous waiter. Food was beautiful and delicious. Excellent wine selection.
Seared tuna really good as were the lamb chops.
Gia never disappoints. The owner and staff are charming and dedicated to great service. We are lucky enough to walk to the restaurant from home and it's become our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Always something new on the menu. Not being knowledgeable about Italian wines we've trusted the staff's recommendations and they are always outstanding!
Only complaint, my plate was cold... heated plate preferred for hot meal. :-)
It is folly, conceit, and self-deception to pretend you can meaningfully evaluate a restaurant after a single meal there. Even after two. But our third meal at Gia was again fine, indeed. Pietro is an ebullient host and Stefano has a deft touch for la cucina romana. Gia shows real promise for being a standard bearer for Italian dining in Marin, where mediocre Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen. After a year on the scene, Gia seems to have staying power, and, most importantly, the ability to maintain a high and consistent level of quality. As it always does, time will tell. Happily, all the signs are excellent that Marin finally has an outstanding ristorante italiano. Welcome to the neighborhood, Gia!
Love the service there, I always feel like a regilar
I felt like I was in Rome again!
The food was very good and the staff was very welcoming and attentive. We had one problem. We said we were passing on dessert and then a few minutes later our waiter brought us a tiramisu. We thought it was complimentary since it was our first visit. We didn’t really notice on the bill until we git home that we were charged 9.50 for Dessert we didn’t order.
Quite enjoyable, our first visit. Service was excellent and food great!
Food is very rich. Owner and wait staff are great. Fun. Molto Italiano.
Gia is such a wonderful place to start. Homemade pasta and sauces make it amazing! Great wines and not too pricey.
We go here sometimes weekly and a lot for special occasions. It was my birthday this time and it was Fantastic! The staff is 1st rate and the food is exquisite. Thank you Gia for another truly memorable meal.
Great menu, beautifully prepared tasty food, excellent selection CA and Italian wines, wonderful service with an Italian flair!!
The food and service are outstanding! Nice people too.
Amazing food, service, and wine. Best Italian restaurant in town.
First time at Gia and it was amazing. Food was delicious but the service was even better. The owner was very personable and was making rounds going from table to table engaging clients in casual conversation. Pretty authentic Italian food too. Will definitely be back.
We are still thinking about our incredible meal and experience Saturday night. Before I rave about the quality of the fresh pasta and ingredients, I have to tell you that the owner and our server made us feel so special and well taken care of. Our appetizers were incredible (from artichokes to tuna tartar to pork bruschetta) and pastas were fresh and delicious. The whole experience made it special and we will return again and again. What a generosity of spirit!
Gia has become, without a doubt, our favorite restaurant in Central Marin. The food is invariably delicious; the servers are friendly and helpful; and the wine list of Italian wines is remarkable.
Great local restaurant. Very fresh and great friendly service
I found that the food was a bit too salty. But other than that, it was great.
First time we have been here. Food was wonderful and the service was great - friendly and fun. We will be back!
Genuine Italian food prepared and served by very pleasant genuine Italians. From the antipasti on, never had a clunker dish. Strongly recommended.
