Gertrude's - Baltimore

Our service was perfect! The food was delicious! I had the Country Breakfast Platter and my husband had the Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict. It was a fun and delicious brunch to celebrate my Mom's 84th birthday!
Beautiful ambience, great service, and great food. Hostess checked out temperatures and staff wore masks and followed safe protocols. Gertrude’s consistently delivers a lovely experience.
I could not have selected a safer, more enjoyable and more delicious way to break out of a quarantine and self isolation than Gertrude's. I'm still smiling over the scrumptious crab cake--broiled to a crispy golden brown on the outside and bursting with succulent lumps of crab on the inside. All beautifully complimented by a nearly undressed slaw--when you use the freshest ingredients who needs mayonnaise--and flavorful fries. But my eyes close and I practically purr at the memory of the biscuits. The just out-of-the oven warmth and flakiness was amplified by the impossibly smooth and spicy apple butter. Each bite was a joy! The fresh apple dessert was light and just sweet enough to top off a wonderful meal. The waitstaff was incredibly polite, friendly and efficient at the same time. Health and safety precautions were evident everywhere. Tables were spaced well apart and seating was kept well below capacity both inside and outside the restaurant. Paper menus were ripped and discarded the moment they left our hands. We also had the option to view the menu on our cell phones. All of the staff was wearing masks, our temperatures were taken before we were seated, and our contact information was taken. We sat outside, but after seeing all of their procedures, I would feel confident dining inside. Of special note, I saw the owner sitting outside having his own lunch and carefully watching all that was going on from a guest's perspective. Now that is ownership! Oh, I'm still thinking about those biscuits!
Consistent excellent food and food preparation. Outdoor ambience is delightful on a mild sunny day.
Tom must be the finest waiter in all of Maryland.
We got married and wanted a beautiful brunch with family to celebrate. Tom our server was awesome.
The set up for outdoor dining overlooking the Sculpture Garden worked well. Tables were appropriately spaced.
The Maryland crab soup is the best around. Fried oysters are perfectly done—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Eastern Shore platter of fried chicken and crab cake with a biscuit and roasted fingerling potatoes is enough for two dinners and a great bargain for the price.
Our excellent server (Peter) was welcoming, professional and knowledgeable regarding the wine list and menu.
Our dining experience was very enjoyable on all counts.
Food excellent felt very safe ate in sculptor garden could not have been more beautiful
Lovely, as ever. We enjoyed the cream of crab soup, honey squash soup, perfectly prepared Brussels sprouts, and the delicious hush puppies with lemon curd and apple sauce.
So happy Gertrude’s is open again for dining in as well as outdoor seating, weather permitting. Nice tie-in to a visit to the BMA collections and gift shop.
Beautiful space, incredible food, and kind staff!!
A Baltimore native was visiting from London and we decided on Gertrude’s for dinner. It was a beautiful night to dine in the lovely outdoor space. The service was perfectly paced, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed the experience feeling safe with the pandemic precautions in place.
5 of us dined outside near the fountain this past Tuesday and it was wonderful! The food was great (and affordable) - Gertie's Tuesday, as was the wine! The staff at Gertrude's is second to none, consistently, which I why I keep returning.
We booked the table ahead of time, due to the Pandemic, and didn't realize that we would have eaten brunch only a couple of hours before our visit. We ended up ordering the Kale and Beet salad (for me), and the Chicken Salad Sandwich with a cup of Crab soup (for him). despite thinking we were not very hungry, we cleaned our plates! and the Mimosa and Sangria we had with the meal were lovely. We took a walk through the sculpture garden after, and the live music made the whole experience a restful break from the stresses of these times.
This place is a gem in the north part of the city. This is outdoor dining in the time of COVID, at its finest! Sculpture garden, fountains, covered patio--just lovely! Ambiance is great, good food, service punctual.
The crabless cakes made w zuchinni were delicious!
Gertrudes is the best! Always dine there when in Baltimore!
Ronnie was a great waiter as usual, so we always ask for him. The only complaint I have is that we all miss the corn muffins at lunch and understand you are serving them only at dinner. Why????
Consistent quality in an aesthetically pleasing environment. Love it here!
The food was outstanding. The half shrimp salad sandwich and soup of the day was the perfect amount (sandwich was overflowing with shrimp!) and every bite was mouth wateringly good. The staff was terrific and the atmosphere lovely. Their safety measures feel important and valued but not obtrusive.
We had lovely seating out in the garden..off the beaten path .............but also out of the assigned tables of the servers and we waited a long time before getting someone’s attention and some service. I was on my way to the interior of the restaurant to get someone yo take our orders when finally I caught the eye of a very nice server who came then and took our order. But it was at least 30-45 minutes that we waited to order...... We had a reservation for 12:45 and a reservation for a visit to the BMA at 2:00...plenty of time, but because of the long wait, we werent able to leave Gertrude’s until 2:15. That was very inconvenient and I don’t understand why our table which was just a few feet away from the diners under the covered space was so neglected.
We had lunch outside on the patio. It was a beautiful day and the setting was lovely. At a time when eating out has turned into an adventure, a meal at Gertrude's was perfect. Two of the group had the trout special which featured not only well prepared trout but a Instagram worthy salad with watermelon radishes and beets. I had the butternut squash ravioli which was in a cream sauce. Well prepared although not quite as amazing as the trout. I can recommend the pomegranate sorbet as a flavorable light dessert as well as the sangria with frozen fruit chips.
We love dining at Gertrude's, and our meal of squash soup, crab cake with potato salad and green beans, and squash ravioli was outstanding. The only reason we give this particular visit a less than outstanding all-around grade is that, for some reason, it took nearly 30 minutes for my ice cream sundae to arrive after we had ordered dessert. This seemed a bit long a wait for an ice cream sundae at a time when the outside restaurant was not especially crowded. However, we are not dissuaded and, though we live an hour away in northwestern Montgomery County, we will definitely return to Gertrude's sometime soon! Thank you!
Love Gertrude's! the food is outstanding, the service incredible, and they have done an amazing job of re-opening safely due to COVID-19. We'll be back again soon!
My experience at this restaurant was wonderfully. The food was excellent. The services were according my expectations. The waiter was outstanding. People make you feel like you are a millionaire. I can wait to be there again.
Really enjoyed myself with my wife for our anniversary. This really made our weekend.
Always good and dependable. Good bar - good service and great atmosphere.
I hadn't been there in a long time and this was the first time during the pandemic, but my girlfriend had a birthday and loves seafood and crabs. But the food was only so so, the service was slow and he noise level was such that we could hardly hear ourselves talk. On leaving i glanced outside and there seemed to be a very nice ambiance.
What a classy place. Outstanding food, great liquor selection, affordable wines, elegant location, great service.
We had the good fortune of meeting Elena at the bar and chose to have her serve us. Her knowledge of the menu was great and she helped us navigate a number of delicious options to fit our plant-based diet.
Delicious food and excellent service one of my favorite places
The outdoor setting in the garden under the tent with the lights is to me one of the most beautiful in Baltimore. It is quiet but loved seeing people walk through and enjoy the garden; and the water fountain was just lovely. As always the food is delicious and service is outstanding.
Outdoors on bright, sunny, mild early Fall day. Seated adjacent to sculpture garden and man made small waterfall. Safe spacial distance from other diners. servers with masks. Outstanding menu choices for small plates, entrees and excellent desserts. Relaxed and delightful experience.
If you have hearing problems, don't sit close to the fountain! We sat outside, beautiful day to enjoy the weather and views of the sculpture garden. All in all, it was a lovely day and a very nice meal - love all the selectins!
Great outdoor location at BMA. Food so-so this time for lunch.
Quite a good meal. My trout was delicious, and the fried oysters were perfect. Service was unobtrusive and helpful. The outdoor space is delightful.
Wonderful seafood salad is better than ever; plus there is daily menu in addition to regular and dependable favorites.
Always a pleasant experience with a gracious staff and good food
Fantastic food with indoor and outdoor seating. Temperatures are checked at the door and tables are well spaced for social distancing. Be sure to visit on a Tuesday for the special!
Amazing ... wonderful atmosphere, service, delicious food and I’m going back once a week
Wonderful as always!
I love the setting and the service was excellent. In fact, they called me after we left to
tell me my friend left her hat: above and beyond I think. But I thought the food was
mediocre. The French fries were soggy, the crab cake over done, and the slaw bland.
I have been going to the restaurant for brunch or lunch for decades, and certainly will
return, but the food this time was disappointing.
