Gertrudes is a classic. Consistently friendly, quiet and attentive with an excellent menu.
Note: Written during the pandemic of 2020. We dined outdoors and they were very accommodating! We selected a table in the sun. As the sun moved we hopped to another table and the staff quickly set the table with fresh linens and new flatware. This is my first time seeing a dear friend this year and the staff had no problem with our 2 hour lunch date.
The wine selection = wonderful! Price points for those on a budget and those willing to splurge. Quality options and a Wednesday night discount ;-)
The house cocktails = tasty and fun! We started with cocktails to chat and take our time with the menu
The food = excellent. I would bring my in-laws or anyone I want to impress but I would also come here for a quick after work happy hour or meal.
Brunch Specials were worth the trip and outdoor dining in warm sun, our choice vs. Under tent, with view of sculpture garden was priceless. A neighborhood gem not to be missed. Mushroom goat cheese omelete with biscuits and apple honey butter was outstanding.
My wife & I enjoyed a brunch date after running through Druid Hill Park.
We each enjoyed a Dirty Gerty (Bloody Mary) before our meals, which were ok. My wife had the Shrimp Po’Boy and a cup of soup (1/2 MD crab & 1/2 cream of crab), and I had the country breakfast. Both were fantastic! I had scrapple with my meal and am glad I did so.
Our meals were served by a wonderful waitress. The service was top notch!
Excellent food, conscientious service, pleasant ambience. Every server and manager was very helpful and polite. Highly recommended for lunch.
Birthday lunch. Great service and food in addition to a complimentary desert.
Excellent Sunday lunch. I had buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and a swirl of whipped cream. Also two little muffins first with marmalade and butter. And coffee plus refill. The service - excellent and conscientious but unobtrusive. I tipped her generously, but the tip did not appear on my computer record, only the cost of the meal. I never carry cash these days. I will have to in future, or my writing $5 on the bill does not seem to work. My wonderful waitress was Gretchen W.
Wonderful evening. Awesome staff and service. Will definitely continue our support.
Wonderful crab cake! Great service!
Dining at Gertrude's is ALWAYS a terrific experience! We enjoyed a lovely dinner. Must add that in this pandemic era, the team there has done a great job of ensuring safety. They took our temperature and seated us off in an area with no guests.
Have to add that it breaks my heart to see the restaurant so empty on what should be a busy Friday night. I have been a fan of this establishment for years and will continue to support them.
Wonderful place! Absolutely terrific!
This is a beautiful place. Great t try I have a late lunch. Food very good, staff friendly and wearing masks and gloves.
I ordered the salmon, expecting to receive a thick broiled or poached piece if fish. Instead, I was served two or three think slices that had been fried, which made me naseous, so I had to order a grilled cheese and tomato instead. First time I did not get a great meal on my first try.
Gertrude's is a little pricey for lunch but the food and the service were great. They handle the COVID restrictions well; never felt concerned at all.
The restaurant is terrific and a safe COV sanctuary.
Delicious meal at Gertrude’s on Tuesday- I picked from the $30 three-course menu and my friend had oysters and steak frites. My salmon was AMAZING.
We were so lucky to enjoy a birthday lunch al fresco in the sculpture garden in November! The colors of the trees against the blue sky was only surpassed by our lovely server and the delicious lunch! We love Gertrude's and will be ordering our a Thanksgiving dinner from their curbside pickup! Thanks for your hard work to keep everyone safe and still have a celebration!
Always great. Good service and food. Good social distancing.
We love your place and come at least 3-4 times a month.
Can you pleaseeeeeee add a bagel and lox plate on your brunch menu??? We would greatly appreciate it.
Wonderful dinner under the stars! Dinner, drinks and atmosphere were fantastic.
Nice outdoor seating with proper distancing. Waitress was efficient and attentive.
We enjoyed delicious food--all 6 of us ordered different items and all were more than pleased--great comfort eating outdoors in 70 degree weather by the sculpture garden, and the best server ever. Her name is Jude, and she's efficient, caring--and blessed with a great sense of humor. She related to our grandchildren, our children, and even these old folks. Amazing.
Lovely patio for outside dining. If you can’t sit outside, I feel more safe eating inside at Gertrudes than most restaurants in Baltimore because, the museum has an air filtration system to protect the artwork from which the restaurant benefits.
It was the day they called the election and the sever quietly notified each table of the news.
The food was fabulous as always. Tofu scramble and chicken salad get A+ from our party. Food always very good and consistent . A fabulous brunch on a gorgeous day!
A stroll through the sculpture garden after brunch cinched it for us!
Outdoor brunch adjacent to the sculpture gardens in bright warm sunshine was wonderful. Outstanding service in very safely maintained facilities and staff procedures. Each course was perfectly prepared and served. Kudos to all!
The hostess was curt when we checked in, annoyed that we commented that the signage was not good directing us to the entrance. Our waiter was very attentive as was the other server. The hostess needs to improve her interpersonal communication.
Friendly staff and beautiful setting. Friend's birthday lunch and she loved it.
Wednesday night is 1/2 price wine by the bottle or glass....the food is so fresh and well prepared
The sound of a fountain, fall foliage and good food. Couldn’t be better!
It was colder than expected. The group had jackets but the farthest away tent did not have as much heating as the one closest to the indoor restaurant.
The complimentary biscuit & muffin were delicious, especially with the apple butter spread served with them.
My crab quiche was full of crab & cheese & good seasonings. Salad was also good with some extra dressing that I requested. The Sauvignon Blanca was a perfect accompaniment.
Others had chicken salad sandwiches & soup combo. The rock fish cake brunch combo was a big hit. Seafood is always the best at Gertrude’s.
Always an enjoyable meal. Not many patrons on our visit.
A worthwhile visit
Wait service and quick service from the kitchen were excellent.
Loved the cream of crab soup. We ate outside and it was chilly. I hope they get heater set up completed soon, I sm still not going to eat inside. Service was great.
We sat outside among the sculptures and the fountain. The service was prompt, the oysters and soups delicious on a beautiful fall afternoon .
Good choice, pleasant restaurant. I like it. Sandwhich is delicious, but soup is neutral.
Gertrude’s is a very good choice when it comes to outdoor dining during these times when social distancing is a concern. The atmosphere is great along with the service and the food. I would recommend it.
Fine. Food good. Atmosphere nice
Our service was perfect! The food was delicious! I had the Country Breakfast Platter and my husband had the Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict. It was a fun and delicious brunch to celebrate my Mom's 84th birthday!
Beautiful ambience, great service, and great food. Hostess checked out temperatures and staff wore masks and followed safe protocols. Gertrude’s consistently delivers a lovely experience.
I could not have selected a safer, more enjoyable and more delicious way to break out of a quarantine and self isolation than Gertrude's. I'm still smiling over the scrumptious crab cake--broiled to a crispy golden brown on the outside and bursting with succulent lumps of crab on the inside. All beautifully complimented by a nearly undressed slaw--when you use the freshest ingredients who needs mayonnaise--and flavorful fries. But my eyes close and I practically purr at the memory of the biscuits. The just out-of-the oven warmth and flakiness was amplified by the impossibly smooth and spicy apple butter. Each bite was a joy! The fresh apple dessert was light and just sweet enough to top off a wonderful meal. The waitstaff was incredibly polite, friendly and efficient at the same time. Health and safety precautions were evident everywhere. Tables were spaced well apart and seating was kept well below capacity both inside and outside the restaurant. Paper menus were ripped and discarded the moment they left our hands. We also had the option to view the menu on our cell phones. All of the staff was wearing masks, our temperatures were taken before we were seated, and our contact information was taken. We sat outside, but after seeing all of their procedures, I would feel confident dining inside. Of special note, I saw the owner sitting outside having his own lunch and carefully watching all that was going on from a guest's perspective. Now that is ownership! Oh, I'm still thinking about those biscuits!
Consistent excellent food and food preparation. Outdoor ambience is delightful on a mild sunny day.
Tom must be the finest waiter in all of Maryland.
