This is not our first time here. We have never been disappointed. The food and views are worth the drive from San Diego or points north. This time, we had 4 in our party and each had a different entree from the Lunch Menu. Our waiter brought drinks out right away and the food was timely. The soup was delicious, as were the tacos. One cousin had the burger and raved about how great it was. He's from the midwest and accustomed to very clean and tasty beef. One of us had the fish which was very fresh and perfectly cooked. The waiter was very accommodating and attentive. We had great food and great service. Will keep coming back.
Fantastic food and beautiful views!
Great service. Perfect setting. Lovely experience.
Beautiful view, excellent service, and a great meal! What more could you ask for on vacation? It was perfect!
Gorgeous view and delicious food - perfect combination!
Go for the views!
Great views; nice place for drinks. Food average at best
Would go back for drinks with friends;
We were there at night so the view was not as great. Otherwise it was great, although I was surprised at how small the menu was
Everything about this place is great, the food is exceptionally good, the wait staff is very attentive until the end. It took 20 minutes to get the check signed back after I gave our waitress the credit card...not a whole lot of fun with a 5 year old.
Service was terrible. Waited forever at every stage. Our waitress was rarely seen, and when in the restaurant was in no hurry and moved like a snail. She had a very blasé voice and attitude, and seemed to have no interest in us, or the job in general. She bordered on condescending, and "above it all." It felt as if she had no pride in the place, or vested interest in how she presented/represented the restaurant.
HOWEVER, at first arrival we were warmly greeted by the maitre d', the food (when each course eventually arrived) was delicious, and the table-bus service was very efficient. The bussing staff were quiet and unobtrusive, but moved very quickly throughout keeping everything in beautiful shape. The view was beautiful from our table, and the heat lamps kept us warm and comfortable on the cool evening.
Ultimately I chose not to reduce the tip for two reasons: (1) our waitress comped our salads to make up for the long long delays at every stage, and (2) I did not want the rest of the bussing and wait-staff to suffer less income (assuming the tip was divvied up amongst them) as a result of her performance.
The Ocean Terrace is a great restaurant. The food was top notch and the menu had a wide variety. The only problem was that being an outdoor restaurant it is captive to the whims of weather which admittedly in San Diego is usually good. We had an early evening reservation to watch the sunset and the temperature was in the low 60s with a slight breeze so my wife and I were slightly uncomfortable even with light coats. We had a gas heater directly to the back of where we were seating and we asked our waiter if it could be lit. He said he would see to it and although it took a few minutes when it was lit we were quite comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our dinners.
Brought friends visiting from the Midwest. Beautiful, clear, sunny day!
Very nice spot for a good ocean view. Food was alright. Next time I’d just go hang out at the bar.
It was great! Went for the sunset
Gotta have the Smokey chicken soup. Its the best. Also had the Tombo and one of the best fish dishes ever
Lost all its appeal to many other options with better staff and views
Our server was amazing the sunset was beautiful and the food was outstanding! All was a great memorable experience. Will definitely return on next trip
Food was way overpriced for what we received....Guess you are paying for the view...
Great place to see the sunset !
We went there for a drink and some appetizers but not for dinner.
The service is great and it feel casual even if it's a chic place.
I'll come back if we go back to San Diego.
Excellent service, food and overall experience
Heard good things about the ocean view, so wish we would have dined during the day. Service was a little slow initially, but got better after we got our first round of drinks. Expected more fish/seafood options given the name and location of the restaurant, but food was good!
The waiter was really helpful and friendly! Lovely view of the ocean.
Great food choices....All delicious! We sat on their patio seating level and the view is wonderful! They also have heaters for cooler days and evenings.
I celebrated my birthday here with my husband and adult children and could not have been happier. We had the corner table on the rooftop with the most incredible view. But the view from anywhere on the three floors they occupy would be equally fabulous. Our waiter was very personable and the service was impeccable. And my fresh Mahi Mahi was to die for. I am celiac and was happy the waiter was knowledgeable and took my health issue seriously. We will be back for sure. Again and again.
We had looked forward to this for a while and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. We started with the ceviche which was ok, but nothing to write home about. Being a restaurant in San Diego, this dish should have been on point in order to compete. It was more of a pico de Gallo with a little fish than a ceviche. Entrees - My guest ordered the Alfredo with chicken and, again, it was ok but not exceptional. I had the gnocchi and this was beyond the most disappointing dish. Bland, unauthentic and somewhat lack luster. Absolutely no flavor, the tomatoes and spinach were the only thing with flavor (and that was just their natural taste) the broth didn’t even have a taste. Extremely disappointed. Would never order again. In addition to the lack of flavor, none of the dishes were presented very artistically, for a restaurant that is a “gem” in La Jolla we expected much better. The few saving graces of the evening were the drinks, blackberry mojitos, were pretty good. The servers were pleasant as were the hostesses. Gorgeous view. But the real thing that saved the night was the dessert... warm chocolate cake! Absolutely delicious!!! We could have licked the plate clean. We agreed we will be back just for dessert. That would be recommendation, go somewhere else for dinner and then George’s for a drink, the view and a dessert.
Chilly but a beautiful evening...We enjoyed our time on the Terrace. George’s staff made a chilly evening enjoyable...Food was great...Looking forward to going back on a warmer evening.
Views were great. Service underwhelmed. Food was ok... Farro salad + salmon was a good choice but blackened fish sandwich was overcooked and dry.
George's is always great for a business dinner. Excellent drinks and great food.
Came here for my daughters 20th
We had a great time
Food was awesome
Service was superb
Upstairs patio always an amazing experience. Views, food, and wine. Definitely my happy place.
We spent the day in La Jolla and visited George’s for lunch. It was a bit pricey for lunch but we enjoyed everything (and the views were amazing!). I had a burger and my fiancé had the yellow fin tuna special. We even indulged and got the warm chocolate cake for dessert (which was a play on a s’more).
It was night time outdoors and a bit windy - the heat lamps were insufficient.
We actually ended up eating at the bar and the service was outstanding and the view absolutely delightful.
The waiting staff was very kind, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect.
Yummy views and few. Lovely wait staff. Farro Salad, Banh Mi sand which and fish tacos all on point. Wine list looked great.
Awesome views. Pricing was moderate and the service was outstanding!
A beautiful day en plain air at the Ocean Terrace. The staff was pleasant efficient and let us enjoy a leisurely meal
Service was attentive and food was cooked perfectly.
Great view with good food on a beautiful sunny California Day. Perfect Valentines Lunch.
The waiter was helpful, food prompt, bill reasonable.
Beautiful views of the ocean and sunset, fair food and service. Disappointed in the food. The management/owner must feel that the lovely views compensate for mediocre food. Our calimari appetizer came out of the kitchen so quickly (and not hot) that they must have plates of some items prepared aready to go.
