George's Ocean Terrace Ratings and Reviews
I visit George's at least once every time I come to San Diego.....even though I may stay in Coranado. The staff is very nice, accommodating and never rush.patrons. The food wonderful. When in San Diego, always eat fish! I also recommend finding locally owned.
I've always loved coming to George's but this last visit put a bitter taste on my tongue. The noise was incredible, the food flavor was not what it used to be, and our waitress was not interested in serving us. The thing that really annoyed me the most was that I made a reservation ahead of time with a special request to have a table next to the glass wall as we were celebrating a special occasion, I showed up on time, and there were plenty of tables next to the glass wall but none were reserved for me. I was told I would have to wait 30-35 minutes for one of those tables because they were "reserved". Did I not make a reservation? Did I not provide notice ahead lf time? Did I show up late?
We used to go to George's all the time, but the service got to be spotty so we stopped. Decided to give it a try again and while the service had improved somewhat the quality of the food went down. It's a great place to sit - but it's expensive and the food is just so-so. Go for drinks at the bar and watch the sunset - but save your dinner dollars for someplace else.
Wanted a sunset view for dinner but had 5:45 reservations so we didn't think we'd be able to see sunset at 7:45ish. But we waited for a table next to the glass overlooking La Jolla Cove and so had to wait. lucky us! It was cloudy, however, but the sun peeked through on the horizon and we still enjoyed partial sunset! Our server, Brian, was very nice and food was good. Crispy calamari-delicious; yellowtail-wonderful; skirt steak-excellent; sticky toffee- cake yummy!
Overpriced and overrated. The view is outstanding and the only reason anyone should go there. They called me on the day of the event and told me that they had my reservation but could not guarantee they could hold it. When I asked why they then took reservations or used Opentable, the conversation degenerated into a Seinfeld episode. The problem with eventually solved with the intervention of management. They didn't tell me until the bill arrived that there was a mandatory 20% tip because we had a party of 6.
Compared with the inside restaurant downstairs, this was a disappointment. The food was OK but certainly nothing special. If you are looking for a spectacular view with outside dining, this is a good choice. If you are looking for a true "fine dining" experience, this is not a good choice.
We made reservations for 1:00 for lunch, & I am so glad we did. People without reservations were being told 1 to 2 hour wait, & I can now see why. I can't imagine any other restaurant has a better view of the beach & ocean, simply amazing. The menu had a great selection from which to choose, and they were all reasonably priced. The service was excellent, and they had our table ready for us at exactly 1:00. Next time we are back in San Diego, we will come back for another (what I'm sure will be) great meal.
My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary our in San Diego/ La Jolla and this by far was the best spot for lunch! The food was outstanding and the view was amazing! Our server was fabulous even with how busy they were. So glad we made reservations.
Our meal was excellent. The view fantastic. Everyone from our waiter to the bartender to check in was gracious and caring about our needs, friendly and courteous. This was our first time in La Jolla. With only 3 nights there we were a little nervous about restaurants. George's was suggested by friends and the Hotel Parisi. They were right on. Thanks for a memorial meal and evening.

We love George's and decided to celebrate a friend's birthday on the ocean terrace. The food was good, but not great. The server brought a small bottle of olive oil to the table and presented it to our friend as a birthday gift. Nice touch, but we were REALLY annoyed when they billed us $12.00 for a tiny bottle of olive oil AND made it appear that they were so gracious and thoughtful!!! We won't go back. There are plenty of places to celebrate a special occasion without being taken advantage of. What a disappointment!!
I had a great waitress. She gave us everything we wanted and needed. She was quick to get us anything we asked for and replace anything that was not up to what it should have been. I believe her name was Courtney, she had bright green shoes on and an equally bright personality with cheerfulness and just overall manners. I would come back just because of her, and the tasty food. We had a gift certificate and she was able to help us use it and give us descriptions with her knowledge and experience.
Great place for lunch!
My husband and I were celebrating out 10th year anniversary and had never been to this restaurant before. We thought the service was outstanding and our server (Matthew)took good care of our needs. We were seated facing the ocean so we had a fantastic view! We would definately go here again. The only issue for me was that there was only a choice of 2 vegetarian main entrees. I chose the couscous with veggies which was ok but could have done with a lot more flavor. The bruschetta however was very nice.
