George's Ocean Terrace Ratings and Reviews
We decided to have dinner at George’s Ocean Terrace based on the recommendation of our colleague who dined here before and we were not disappointed. From the service, ambiance, and amazing food, this establishment will certainly be on our short list of restaurants to come to when we travel to the San Diego area.
For the past several years we have made a point of having lunch at George's Terrace when in town visiting family. It is always a great experience - great food and service and an ocean view that can't be beat. It was a little chilly and we were even offered blankets.
This is billed as a great place to watch the sun set. It is NOT! The sun sets behind a building. It does have a view of the beach and the seals but it is not good for viewing a sunset as it is marketed!!! Ran out of 2 different menu items at 3:30 pm. Menu is seafood heavy and not for meat lovers.
Used to go to George's years ago, and was excited to return on a recent trip to San Diego. My family and i had a reservation, and were seated at table under a loud speaker right next to hostess stand. It was not the best table. So, we moved downstairs and got a nice table against the glass partition with a great view on the 2nd floor. Service and food were excellent.
Been there many times, it used to be a great place, but it has certainly declined in all aspects. It has a great view so sad to see this place go downhill. It still gets crowded around the sun sets. If you don't mind paying $100 to watch the sun set then its a great place for you.
FANTASTIC, some of the best food I have ever had! Hostess was polite and friendly, servers were very observant and knew when to approach and when to let us alone, chefs were AMAZING- try the famous soup! And the bread! And the roast chicken! Everything was delicious and you can't beat that sunset view of the ocean and palm trees. Heaven!
Our overall experience was very poor. We had booked as we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and it had been recommended by a colleague. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived but we had to sit and wait to be seated for 10 minutes Finally we were shown to a table and given menus from which we ordered a bottle of wine. We sat for the next 20minutes with no service, no water and no wine. We decided to leave and walked across the street to a cosy, friendly Italian restaurant, la dolce vita, that we would thoroughly recommend.
Super accommodating we changed our party size at the last minute and 2 of us were 45 minutes early and hey seated us without waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. Excellent as always. George’s is always on my list of places to eat when I visit San Diego.
We were here celebrating my birthday and it was a big disappointment. We had reservations at 3:15 to see the sunset and the staff was changing from lunch to dinner. They were cleaning up and made us feel like we were in the way/they were being inconvenienced by us being there. I was asked multiple times if we were celebrating anything but nothing was done to celebrate it. Overall, I'm not impressed and wouldn't recommend it.
So... Ive been here quite a bit over the years... lunch settinng on a nice day was awesome.. they ran 30 minutes behind on res time.. ordered lunch fish special.. usually love the food.. underwhelmed. not much flavor profile at all.... sticky toffee desert. cake was dry!! not a great visit this time.. Hopefully, not the new way it will be!!
