Our family of 7 went to Easter brunch here on April 1. We had never been before their recent renovations, so do not have comparisons. The space was lovely though- classy in a casual, vintage way. The jazz singer was a great touch for a Sunday morning. It was a little loud, but not so loud that we were shouting across the table (even sitting right next to piano and speakers). The service was good- very helpful and on top of things. We are enjoyed the extensive choices on the prix fixe brunch menu- you get a lot for $35. Food was OK, but definitely would have been better if it was hot enough. Most members of our party had room temperature food, including the item listed as "HOT donut holes :)," as well as all the egg dishes. We would come back and hope that the food will be brought out just a little hotter/better. Thanks for a festive Easter brunch!

I am not sure if I ever experienced discrimination or racial aggression as an African American living in NYC my entire life, but this was perhaps my first time. It took over an hour for our brunch order to be sent over to our table. Yes, the crowd was predominately white, which was fine upon entering because this is diverse NYC and I truly wanted to experience their jazz brunch for Easter, something I had read about in Time Magazine. So, to see the lackluster greeting upon entering, the diners seemingly offended by our presence (there were about 3 other diners who were black) noticing everyone enjoying their French Toast and Pancakes with expediency as we were seated first did not sit well with me. As I called the server over to ask her about the ETA on the food, I was waved off very rudely. The manager on staff seemed very engaging with other diners, asking how the food was and getting the temperature of the brunch, but did not stop at our table once. On top of that the entree we ordered was so LACKLUSTER, my waffle was hard, my boyfriend's onion rings were burnt and the chicken was a disgusting pink. I am realizing now that there is power in the dollar and the next time I sit and dine somewhere I sense that I am not wanted, I will get up and leave. Its not only the management that sets the tone but also the fellow patrons, for me I always thought Astoria was a heterogeneous place that was accepting of many cultures. I was taught a lesson that day.

A wonderful satisfying brunch, served in a delightful setting, by professionals who know what it tastes to make your visit extra special!!! The live pianist/singer accentuated George’s endeavors to bring diners back to a refined dining Experience.

Everything was fine except for the bar manager, Jamie, she had a MAJOR attitude. She was rude and dismissive...She would be the reason I do not return , too bad, it was graet when it was Astor Room

The staff are very warm, friendly and professional. The venue is very nice, it really does harken back to the days of the old movie studio, though not as big as I thought. When the entertainer is playing, she was very talented, it can be a bit loud. So, if quiet conversation is on your agenda, it's probably not the right spot. The crowd was pretty diverse and well dressed for the most part. The oysters were great! Plump, fresh and ice cold. The Scottish salmon was spot on and the beef Wellington was excellent and a very nice portion. My vodka martinis were perfect. You should check this place out, you won't be disappointed. The outdoor seating looks like it would be very nice when the season is right.

Lousy over-priced, over-cooked food...non attentive service...and d-grade jazz musicians all in a cheese basement bar. Let's just say this is a must miss for any occasion.

It was wonderful for us. There's a range of spots which we're identifying in the JH/Woodside/LIC area at which we 2 can eat great food, wonderful ambiance, convenience, for about $100 - and this one just made the list. We also have a MOMI membership and so this will work out just fine. $1 per raw oyster on the half shell? You can't touch this. We both really enjoyed our experience. Draft beer was good - and my wife liked the wine. Excellent. And it was great to see such a lively bar scene - we're not the type - with great interactions between bartenders and clientele. Altogether, this was exactly the kind of experience I wanted to have here. I'm a big fan of dark wood interiors - they help establish privacy for each dining unit. Great.

I took my Aunt and a few of her friends for a Christmas Eve birthday ladies brunch (a group of ladies ranging ages 63-89 years youmg). We had a wonderful time from the moment we parked until we left. John, the manager, and his fantastic wait staff treated us like movie stars or old family friends that had been away for a while. Food was great and mimosas were tasty and plentiful. only critque is that the Astor Disaster dish isn't that awesome, but everything else was delicious!!

Let me start by saying I love the Astor Room. It's one of my favorite Astoria restaurants. The food is great, the venue is outstanding and the service is always good. However, this visit was not my fave. It was a Saturday night, the weekend before Christmas, and my son and I were having our Christmas get together. We expected an elegant, low key dining experience as we had had in the past. But this night the jazz band was so deafeningly loud that the hostess could not hear me say my name to confirm our reservation. While I would have preferred to be in the main dining room, which is why I made sure I had a reservation, we had to settle for the back room and request that they turn down the piped in music from the main room as it was almost as loud in the back as it was in the front. For the first time since we began going to the Astor Room, I considered leaving and going somewhere else. Loud music is not conducive to fine dining.

I didn't have a bad experience though I would have liked it better if the food was good. I ordered a steak, medium rare, and it was too chewy and the only flavor i tasted was the overbearing sauce. My date didn't enjoy her pasta as well. I live a few blocks from the location but I dont think i will be back unless it's just for drinks.

The service and classic atmosphere was very nice as we expected...but as far as the food is concerned, the high-priced Rib-Eye Steak entre was a total and absolute DISAPPOINTMENT. For close to $50 at a supposedly well-known and "highly respected" restaurant, you'd expect to get at least a halfway DECENT and TENDER cut of meat. But instead, what I got was a TOUGH, CHEAP piece of cut-up CHUCK STEAK that they tried to pass over as an EXPENSIVE, PRIME-CUT RIB-EYE! SAD...very sad, indeed.

Never again!!!

Very courteous and attentive staff in a comfortable, old world setting. It was very pleasantly set off by some very fine and well chosen live music. My date loved one song in particular (a Leonard Cohen composition) and when I requested from the piano player that she play that song again, she very politely acquiesced and it helped make the evening a memorable one.

The piano singer was an excellent accompaniment to the brunch. She had a voice reminiscent of Nora Jones. The music filled the room. Not background music and it was difficult to have a conversation . Would still recommend and return.

The Astor Room serves up a totally enjoyable dining experience: history, decor, atmosphere, good food and service and ambience. Other than ceiling replacement due to water damage, the decor is the same as the old days when Astoria's Kaufman Astoria Studios was called Paramount Studios and WC Fields etc. were working there.
I was here for Sunday brunch, which included live music, and intend to come back!
For you drinkers out there, the [original] bar is gorgeous and do check out the huge & sequined bull on top of the bar. :)
