My family and I visit often in the 4 years my college son has been in the area. My son graduated and I had a reservation for 2:45. I arrived and it took a while for someone to even acknowledge my family and I standing at the front desk. The young lady finally responded and I told her we had a reservation. She said she would be back which again took a while. We are then escorted downstairs after I requested in advance a table on the first floor. As we arrived at our table there was a very large party of about 20+ people sitting at the long table beside us. It was so noisy that we could not hear each other talk. The party beside us kept yelling and being very disruptive. I asked the waiter for a table upstairs because this was way to loud. He came back to day it would be a 45 minute wait. We sat there another 5-10 minutes and the party beside us was really loud. Finally we decided to just order and take food with us. Explained this to waiter and young lady that seated us. Once we arrived upstairs no one was willing to take order for to go. We waited some more and finally my family and I decided to leave. I understand having limited space but you need to police your guests to prevent your other guest from being disrupted. They acknowledged the extreme noise but did nothing to resolve. Customer Service was definitely not on the building on this date.
Nice location, close to the State Theatre. Food & drink was good & reasonable.
We were seated immediately and the waitress was attentive and the food was great! The appetizers and drinks were served quickly. The only drawback was it took a long time for the entrees to come out and be served.
Made reservations before a show. Upon arrival, we were escorted to a basement table. After sitting for 10 minutes and a waitress walking by us and never acknowledging us, we got up and left. Walked over to the Tavern in George and had a fabulous dining experience. Found our new go to place in New Brunswick!
Great food, good service and wonderful mimosas. Definitely a college hang out. It was loud but my friend and I didn't have trouble hearing each other.
Great place to get a drink and some good food. Lots of beer and drink choices. Very casual atmosphere. Servers where friendly. We would go again.
Fantastic, totally enjoyed my wrap and truffle fries, wish I lived closer. Can’t wait to comeback!!!
Good for a quick bite. It’s a college bar not fine dining.... nothing wrong with that just setting expectations :)
We went during Happy Hour and they had a good selection of drinks and appetizers at a reduced price.
We had dinner at George Street Ale House prior to a show at the State Theatre. We were seated immediately, and the service and food was excellent. Will be returning again!
I didn’t like where my boyfriend and I were sat. I also didn’t understand if you’re asking what the occasion no one really said anything about it i mentioned it was our anniversary and got nothing nor was told anything. I thought our waiter wasn’t attentive only when spoken to was she. Being sat downstairs you really don’t hear the music. Overall, it was 3/5 stars maybe if I try again it would be better experience.
Love this restaurant. We’ve never been disappointed with the food. Have brought friends and they loved it too! Just a fun, casual atmosphere with great food and drinks.
We ate downstairs because it was very loud upstairs. We were by ourselves so it was really nice. Service was good even tho we were the only ones downstairs. I had shrimp tacos and they were delicious!! Hubby had a burger and fries which he enjoyed as well. Beer selection was not as varied as we hoped. No porters and very few IPA’s on tap
Cold beer and a good selection of food.
Great food as always!
Food was pretty good. They were out of just about every beer my friends asked for and our waiter barely spoke over a whisper. The ambiance was more sports bar than ale house.
The food was very good and our server was fine.
But, we decided that they must have an issue with open table. We had to modify our reservation 30 mins ahead, and did so using the app. Early reservation before a show. No problem, plenty of slots open.
When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation; we replied that it was thru open table. Although there were plenty of available tables, we were told that we were lucky to get a reservation, and were seated at the 2top closest to the door. We were close enough to hear another couple, who replied that they did not have a reservation, and were seated at a 4top further from the door. Happened again with another party.
Then, the drinks. Husband asked for a double vodka, I got the double wine (how could I not - it was less than the price of two glasses). Husband is certain it was a single, and we were charged for a double on the vodka and the higher 2-glass charge on the wine.
We won't be back.
I tried to change my reservation for 15 minutes later as I was running late, and received a call from the restaurant saying they didn’t have any tables available for that time and that an hour later would be better. I explained that I already had a reservation and simply was running late and the lady explained to me that there was no reservation under my name and therefor no table, but if I got there she would give me the next available table. That was a lie, she gave the table to another party whom she originally told would be seated AFTER me & my friend. She then came back and said “another table will be ready in about 15 minutes or there’s 2 seats at the bar downstairs if you’d like to sit there. Frustrated, we decided to sit at the bar which was a bad move as there was a table set up right against the side of the bar, leaving no space for me to even sit. Then, the bartender at the bar took 20 minutes to take our drink orders and then another 20-30 minutes to take our food order. There was at least a 15 minute break in between my glass becoming empty and being refilled which kind of defeated the purpose of getting the unlimited mimosas since there is a time limit on it. I’m hoping my next experience won’t be as bad, I’ll definitely be going back based off the food and music.
Reservation for lunch. Seated immediately. Restaurant was packed which I think caused a delay in the kitchen. Our food didn't come out for 45 minutes but it was okay because we had time to kill before a show at the State Theatre. It also gave our group time to relax and chat. The waiters did let us know that the food would be coming. Food was excellent and definitely a great value. We ordered off the brunch menu which was inexpensive.
College bar type-place. Happy hour margarita was disappointing. Decent but not outstanding craft beer selection.
Our reservation was for 5:30 we arrived at 5:00 and we informed the hostess we would be at The bar for a drink, we were showed where we would be sitting , had reservation sign on the table ( upstairs). When we went to be seated our table was occupied and was given a tabled in the cellar downstairs. ( dungy ,dark and no windows ). We ended up eating at the bar....
Our waitress seemed to be new or she just was not very good at her job. I understand that she was the only waitress in the building but she took a very long time to enter orders into the system. She constantly had her back to everyone at the computer staring at at trying to figure things out. We asked her questions (mind you, they were stupid questions from the people I was with) but she fumbled and did not have a consice answer. It was a different answer each time. She just "yes"'d us alot. I hope she does well in her job. The food though was great. Nachos with the steak chili, cheesesteak egg rolls, pretzel sticks as appetizers. I had the steak sandwich which was amazing. Very good food. The manager is very nice and came over earlier in the meal.
Overall good food and service. The major downside was that even though I had made a reservation and arrived early, it seemed like they forgot about our reservation. The place wasn’t very busy and there were open tables, yet we were put at a high top table for 4 even though we had 5. They placed a menu at the end for the 5th guest, as if they were going to get a chair from the bar for the 5th person to sit there, but they didn’t bring us a chair (we had to ask for one.) It was also quite noisy but I think it stemmed from one rambunctious group.
This was our second time at this place. The first time they tried to cancel our reservation a few days before due to over booking. They seem to need a new reservation system and seating process.
Great service and delicious food each time we visit! Keep up the awesome work.
Food is excellent. Have been there several times for pre-theater dinner. Room is very noisy. Was hard to hear dinner companions due to several very loud customers.
FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! All food was timely. Waitress seemed to “forget” about us after our main meals were delivered - hard to get additional drinks and dessert - we actually decided not to get dessert because of the wait to order it.
Would definitely go back for the food and hope the service was an anomaly.
After making the reservation I called the restaurant to see if they had a parking lot, as I drive a large pickup truck. While I can' remember his name offhand, he spend almost 10 minutes on the phone detailing my options, as they do not have a parking lot.
My friend and I, both of whom ate there for the first time, found both the food and service to be well above-average. I had a burger, which was one of the best burgers I have eaten in recent memory. Beer selection was good.
Would recommend GS Ale House!
Had a blast celebrating my 29th Birthday. Olivia was great!
The brunch special is great being that it is $25 two hour unlimited mimosa with one light meal like a lunch. It is a good deal overall. The waiter was attentive and refilled our drinks frequently and asked if we needed anything else.
Really enjoyed food and relaxed atmosphere before our theater show. Would definitely go again.
Seven of us went to the George Street Ale House and unfortunately four of the group really dislike there meals and the other three thought the food was ok.
Over all good food, great service, and great for group brunches.
Onion soup was delicious!
We went for brunch and mimosas. The brunch menu was great, the food was good, drinks were better and wait staff was friendly. We will surely go back.
Food was great. Didn’t like being placed in the basement with large LOUD group having a private celebration.
Second time I am coming here and was instantly disappointed they didn’t have french toast sticks anymore. Was mostly disappointed that I found this out after ordering 3 of them and the waitress coming back with 3 plates of regular french toast. Which are not even close to being the same. Our waitress seemed distracted the entire time. We had to constantly ask for water refills. Who seemed like the lady manager she had a bad attitude about our food not coming out right, something that wasn’t our fault. Then being a party of 7 we had gratity already added to the bill, which normally i dont care. But when the service isn’t good, it makes you feel lousy that you’re paying someone to do a half efforted job. Coming from someone who’s done it for years and has always made an effort tovall my tables not just ones who already were going to tip me 20%. I don’t plan to come back. Bottomless mimosas can be found somewhere else.
Had an excellent burger and a delicious seasonal cocktail. The staff was friendly, fun, and helpful. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!
Thanks for the great review Sarah! We hope to see you again soon!
Our new favorite spot! Never disappointed! The food is great. We’ve brought many friends here and everyone loves it!
My food was good, however they messed up my friend's order not once but twice (an uncomplicated burger with just lettuce, was served first with bacon and then again with some kind of sauce) and then it took 30 minutes to correct it (again, a plain burger, how hard can that be?) Then they gave us the wrong check. They comped half her meal but they really should have taken the whole thing off. We booked our reservation with plenty of time to have a nice leisurely dinner perhaps with coffee and dessert, and that didn't happen because she basically had to wolf her food down so we wouldn't be late for the show at the State Theater. Will not return.
Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. Burgers were juicy and cooked as ordered.
This is a casual dining experience. Will definately go back for a pre-theater dinner or post-theater snack.
