Overall good food and service. The major downside was that even though I had made a reservation and arrived early, it seemed like they forgot about our reservation. The place wasn’t very busy and there were open tables, yet we were put at a high top table for 4 even though we had 5. They placed a menu at the end for the 5th guest, as if they were going to get a chair from the bar for the 5th person to sit there, but they didn’t bring us a chair (we had to ask for one.) It was also quite noisy but I think it stemmed from one rambunctious group.
This was our second time at this place. The first time they tried to cancel our reservation a few days before due to over booking. They seem to need a new reservation system and seating process.
Great service and delicious food each time we visit! Keep up the awesome work.
Food is excellent. Have been there several times for pre-theater dinner. Room is very noisy. Was hard to hear dinner companions due to several very loud customers.
FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! All food was timely. Waitress seemed to “forget” about us after our main meals were delivered - hard to get additional drinks and dessert - we actually decided not to get dessert because of the wait to order it.
Would definitely go back for the food and hope the service was an anomaly.
After making the reservation I called the restaurant to see if they had a parking lot, as I drive a large pickup truck. While I can' remember his name offhand, he spend almost 10 minutes on the phone detailing my options, as they do not have a parking lot.
My friend and I, both of whom ate there for the first time, found both the food and service to be well above-average. I had a burger, which was one of the best burgers I have eaten in recent memory. Beer selection was good.
Would recommend GS Ale House!
Had a blast celebrating my 29th Birthday. Olivia was great!
The brunch special is great being that it is $25 two hour unlimited mimosa with one light meal like a lunch. It is a good deal overall. The waiter was attentive and refilled our drinks frequently and asked if we needed anything else.
Really enjoyed food and relaxed atmosphere before our theater show. Would definitely go again.
Seven of us went to the George Street Ale House and unfortunately four of the group really dislike there meals and the other three thought the food was ok.
Over all good food, great service, and great for group brunches.
Onion soup was delicious!
Great burgers
Good service
Xxxcccc
We went for brunch and mimosas. The brunch menu was great, the food was good, drinks were better and wait staff was friendly. We will surely go back.
Food was great. Didn’t like being placed in the basement with large LOUD group having a private celebration.
Second time I am coming here and was instantly disappointed they didn’t have french toast sticks anymore. Was mostly disappointed that I found this out after ordering 3 of them and the waitress coming back with 3 plates of regular french toast. Which are not even close to being the same. Our waitress seemed distracted the entire time. We had to constantly ask for water refills. Who seemed like the lady manager she had a bad attitude about our food not coming out right, something that wasn’t our fault. Then being a party of 7 we had gratity already added to the bill, which normally i dont care. But when the service isn’t good, it makes you feel lousy that you’re paying someone to do a half efforted job. Coming from someone who’s done it for years and has always made an effort tovall my tables not just ones who already were going to tip me 20%. I don’t plan to come back. Bottomless mimosas can be found somewhere else.
Had an excellent burger and a delicious seasonal cocktail. The staff was friendly, fun, and helpful. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!
Our new favorite spot! Never disappointed! The food is great. We’ve brought many friends here and everyone loves it!
My food was good, however they messed up my friend's order not once but twice (an uncomplicated burger with just lettuce, was served first with bacon and then again with some kind of sauce) and then it took 30 minutes to correct it (again, a plain burger, how hard can that be?) Then they gave us the wrong check. They comped half her meal but they really should have taken the whole thing off. We booked our reservation with plenty of time to have a nice leisurely dinner perhaps with coffee and dessert, and that didn't happen because she basically had to wolf her food down so we wouldn't be late for the show at the State Theater. Will not return.
Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. Burgers were juicy and cooked as ordered.
This is a casual dining experience. Will definately go back for a pre-theater dinner or post-theater snack.
Good draft menu. I really enjoyed the stew where the meat was soaked in Guiness. Very reasonably priced. Monday is trivia night.
We had a reservation, came there a little early and sat down right away. Caesar salad was great as were the burgers and fries (regular and sweet potato). Definitely a good meal at a nice (pubby type) place for a reasonable price!
Both the service and food was awesome! First time there and we will definitely return.
Staff was great and very attentive even though they were very busy. Food took a little longer to get then we would have liked but we where a party of 13. Took about 40min. They let us download a app to be able to request songs which made it a much more fun brunch experience. The bottles mimosa option is awesome.
This is our 2nd time meeting friends for dinner here, after it was highly recommended. It's become our spot! The food is always great, large portions, friendly staff. We will definitely come again.
great experience
The food was marginal. My salmon was dried out and greasy.
We went there after a Rutgers football game. We had 10 people in our party so I made a reservation. When we arrived they took us downstairs to a very nice room with its own bar, bathrooms, and plenty of tvs for the games. Our server (Kyle-I think that’s his name) was great. He was one of the best servers I think I may have ever had. Our one friend has a shellfish allergy and he pointed all the things she should avoid in such great detail. Our food was great and he made sure it all came out well and spaced out. He was genuinely friendly and easy to talk with. Towards the end of our meal my wife said she was a little cold. He overheard her say this and adjusted the temp. The only reason we know this was because my friend saw it happen. A+ all around!
The Chinese nachos and wings were awesome. We sat downstairs and had a great time. The waiter was great.
I am still in shock over my brunch experience at George Street Ale House last weekend. While the food (that we were able to eat) was pretty good, we were looking at the dessert menu and just received our second pitcher of sangria among other beverages when the manager came over and basically told us we had to leave.
Unbeknownst to us, our brunch was under a strict time limit…this was not information given to us when we made our reservation for a table over a week in advance. We were told that we had “been at the table for 2 hours and a typical 4 top table takes about 1.5 to 2 hours” followed by him saying they booked their downstairs room for a party and the five tables in the bar area were all they had for all of the (overbooked) reservations that were made (since brunch was popular).
Again, nothing about a time limit was disclosed when they called to confirm our reservation the day before, OR even when we were seated. It was shocking to me not only the way this ‘manager’ addressed an issue (clearly on their end) because he was both unprofessional and rude during the entire interaction.
We had ordered multiple drinks, pitchers, appetizers, and entrees – it wasn’t like we were just sitting not ordering anything and taking up space! After he originally came over and I pointed out we were looking at dessert, he mumbled a comment before coming back a minute later rushing us to see if we made a choice – which we obviously didn’t feeling uncomfortable/forced to go.
Both halves of our party drove just over an hour to meet up, and definitely would’ve picked another restaurant if we knew that we couldn’t enjoy our beverages, food, and catching up! Never in my life have I dealt with such a ridiculous encounter, and obviously I will never return or recommend this place to ANYONE!
I come to GSAH often for brunch and LOVE it every time EXCEPT when we get a certain server. He calls everyone "dude" (mind you, I'm a woman) and disappears for 20 min at a time- not the best situation when we're trying to do bottomless brunch. The good news is he was more chipper than usual, but nothing can make up for the lack of attention.
Went for pre-concert dinner. Arrived at happy hour and also received 15% discount for pre-concert dining! Food is good as expected for a bar/restaurant. Waitress was very nice and food service was prompt.
First time dining there. Excellent service and a really good value. If you are going to or from the theatre, be sure to ask for the discount (15%). Salad was very fresh. Disappointed the nachos used cheese sauce.
Love this place, have been here several times now & they never disappoint. Drink selection is huge & the menu is very tasty. Service is excellent. They even give you a discount if you're going to the local theatre!
Food was good. Service was a little slow, but good. Went for an anniversary brunch, wasn't expecting my such a bar scene, but I didn't mind. They also have specials everyday. I'd go back
Do not go here before the theatre unless it is no later than 6pm reservation or you will not get your food in time.
Gastro pub? They are way far from it. Although our dishes were good (pretzel sticks, veggie burger, chicken wrap) they were nothing to rave about. It's more of your typical bar.
They service was slow and almost like they didn't care much for patrons. The food came out on time though.
Unfortunately we never got to eat, after waiting at least 25 minutes for our food we could not wait any longer as we were already late for a concert, the restaurant was not crowded, mostly a bar crowd but apparently the kitchen cared more about getting food to a party downstairs then in the bar area. We had ordered a wrap and fish and chips, not to complicated. When we told the waitress we could not wait any longer the food suddenly appeared, the manager was nice enough to comp the beer and ice tea we had. My comment to the manager was that the kitchen needs to balance out the service to restaurant patrons as well as any private parties.
great apps...service very good and attentive server....will be back
Excellent food and very reasonable price and a good choice before the theatre
Went for dinner before Dennis Deyoung at State theater. Would go again.
My group and I had a wonderful time. Food was really good. Loved the $5 happy hour choice and a prefixed meal option was incredible.
