We had been to Finca before the name change. Unfortunately it was not as good. We came for the Thanksgiving buffett. The Turkey was kind of dry, the stuffing VERY dry. Not even whipped cream for the traditional pumpkin pie. Also it was cold and drafty, much like an outside door was propped open. I was disappointed this year. The price was fair but the food was not up to par.

We went for thanksgiving dinner and had a sub-par experience. The turkey was very dry and the rest of the food was mediocre. Service was slow and not attentive. Definitely not worth the price.

George was fantastic!! I am in the service industry and understand sometimes being understaffed or extremely busy but the servers and bar tenders were on it and were so friendly and accommodating. They had a couple of people call out and a couple of parties change to a much larger size than their reservation but yet still the staff did an amazing job and we have a great time. I only know this information because I pulled it out of the staff because I have been there and wanted them to know that we were easy going and that they didn’t need to worry about us. Awesome food with amazing staff! Thank you!!

Definitely worth checking out. Their shrimp and grits were exceptional. We shared a salad which was large and fresh. Service is a bit erratic but all in all four .

Both our son and I have celiac disease. It is always appreciated to find a restaurant where our whole family can eat together, and we are eating safe gluten free food. The wait and kitchen staff were knowledgeable about our needs having celiac disease (vs. those choosing to eat a gluten free diet.) The whole family found appetizers and entrees we liked. The kids all tried the alligator and loved it. Everyone left happy and full.

These folks need to update their OpenTable. It let me make a reservation for 9:30. When we arrived, the hostess told us the restaurant was closed but there was a full menu available at the bar. Ok. So we took a table at the bar and she provided us with menus. The bartender came over and noted that we were looking at the menu and discussing food. The kitchen is closed he said. Awesome.

The food was good. Ailoi made in house, perfectly seasoned fries, and the marinated olives are just a few reasons to stop by! This restaurant is meant for you to hang out, they don’t try to push you out! Let them know if you’re in a hurry!

We really loved Finca and we assured when they changed the restaurant that they were still going to offer popular items from the Finca menu...and they did for a while. While the food is good it seems to be the same good hamburger offered at all of the restaurants owned by them. So why make the trek to George? I don't think we will anymore.

The food wasn't bad but the service was lacking. They forgot one of our orders and we had to wait almost an hour from the time we originally ordered to get it. They covered the cost of the meal but it was disappointing to say the least.

TL;DR It was okay, but didn't wow me.

This place used to be Finca, which was a decent tapas place great for an eclectic date night. At some point, George replaced Finca, though the staff said it's the same owners. The decor is pretty much the same....about as southern as a Montana dive bar. It's okay, but doesn't match the menu.

The menu has some decent southern dishes, but for the most part, it felt like someone from Idaho's take on southern cuisine. Quite a few key southern recipes like etouffe, crawfish, or catfish are missing from the menu. What's there is good and the portions were really big. We got the seafood platter, which came with six big oysters. Very enjoyable.

Overall, I don't regret going. Food was better than okay. The entire experience just felt like the owners wanted to try something different without investing their heart and souls into it. And I guess that's something I really look for in an eating establishment these days.

The Mothers Day buffet was crazy more expensive than many other places around town, and did not include any juice or coffee. Also the included automatic 20% gratuity which was unexpected for a table of 5. Ambiance could have used some help, like music of sort for starters. Service was good but very overpriced for the value, won’t be coming back. For what was offered I feel pretty ripped off.

The Mother’s Day brunch buffet at Finca became a yearly tradition, but it just wasn’t the same at George. The food wasn’t nearly as good, with fewer options than in years past (really missing the oysters and paella! Seems there were more desserts before as well) it was fine enough, but not good enough to justify the price unfortunately. (The prime rib in particular was lacking, according my husband).

It’s a shame, but we may find a new spot next year.

We waited 10-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at our table and then when our waiter finally arrived it took him another 15 minutes to bring our drinks. We ordered the biscuits which came out raw in the middle and cold. Not sure how that can be??We also ordered the meat and cheese plate which had to be the worst one we have ever had. The service was so poor we wish it was possible to give zero stars. We noted on our reservation that this was for a birthday celebration and it was not acknowledged. They were not busy on a Saturday night at 7:00. Now we know why. We will never go back.

You have to make this a destination!! the food was absolutely incredible, service with a smile and fast. If you want the bang for your buck, this is the place. You want great food, this is the place. You will not be disappointed! This is a classy place with exquisite food.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed the food and service! Drinks can seem watered down in Utah because of our limitations on how much liquor we are allowed to pour per beverage. I wanted to like it and I normally don't review even when I don't like a dish, but their steak was $30 and it was the worst steak I've ever had. It tasted like beef jerky and was about the same texture too, even though I ordered my steak medium rare. It's a shame.

I really wanted to LOVE George. Considering I live on the same block and want a great place (besides Pallet) to dine at and a bar, but unfortunately it's just not quite there. I am hoping that with some tweaks maybe it can get there, but it needs to happen soon before they lose customers. The bottom line is that the service is way way off. We ended up getting seated 50 minutes after our reservation time. I understand 10-20 min, but 50 min is absolutely ridiculous. From there, it felt like our waiter, might have been working his first serving job. He was completely un-open to flexing or altering anything. For example, he literally demanded that our salad order and entree order go in at the exact same time. No excepts. LOL. Very strange. It almost felt like we were getting rushed through since they were so far behind? He also didn't know a thing about the wine or the menu. To him it all seemed like "food," and when we asked a few questions about the wine, it was very clear that he had not the slightest crew. That's a bit odd for a place that touts itself as a "wine restaurant." The food overall, was decent. Nothing that had me dying to come back for more, but it was solid. I really do hope to come back, but there is work to be done to make this place a SLC staple. One more thing to add...hopefully the owners will see this. The bar portion is very uninviting and not cozy. The best way to describe it is that it feels like a waiting room for the restaurant. I would love to see the seating arrange change to give it a cozy vibe that is overflowing with people on a Thursday or Friday night....but it's just not quite there yet, but has sooo much potential.

had a 730 reservation and had to wait till 8 for a table. busy night, I understand but with a limited set menu for the night we were told the delay was due to the kitchen being backed up. servers tried to drop off items to the wrong tables. dirty used dishes were not taken away. i’ll give this place another chance, but the experience was not great.

The waitress was excellent the food was good, but not $200 good.
I was not impressed with the staff at the front desk. There were 4 employees at the desk and I waited quite some time before I was acknowledged- not even a hello I will be right with you. No one looked up!! My reservation was for 7:30. I arrived at 7:20. Was eventually told we would be seated closer to our reservation time. At 7:50 I went back to the desk and waited to be acknowledged by the 2 people at the desk, and was told “I guess I can seat you now”. I have been to other restaurants in the group and I will go back to them but I didn’t feel like George was worth it

Valentine’s Day dinner. Food was fairly good (some courses significantly better than others), service was slow, in both the bar & restaurant. The decor is nice, gives the place a good vibe. The tables in the restaurant are quite close together. It took quite a while for our server to come to take our order in the bar, and drinks took a while to come out after ordering. At dinner, the pairings did not come out together, at times wine coming at the end of the course (we ate slow because wine wasn’t there) Some courses took quite a while to come out. This seemed to be happening at the adjacent tables as well. I still think we will give this restaurant another chance, food and ambience are good.

We had never been to George before, so we decided to go on Valentine’s Day. I realize that is a busy day, but a restaurant that costs this much should be able to handle to Valentine’s Day crowd.
First, our reservation was at 6:30 and we did not get sat until 6:45 or so. Not that big of a deal as I understand it is not an exact science. However, we sat for almost 15 minutes before someone greeted us. In fact, I saw the interaction between the hostess and our server as she said “that is your table” and he had a little panic in him. When he did arrive, I could tell he was frazzled and asked for our order. Not just drinks or appetizers, but all 3 courses. We decided to hurry and order. I believe we only saw our server one more time during the meal not counting paying. We only had 2 drinks apiece due to the slow service (we wanted more). The food was outstanding, but with the service being how it was, I can’t say for sure we will be back.
