Repeat visit, good food and great service. Loved the tiramisu
It was a great Date with Mom. The service excellent and the food Delish. Omg! The Limoncello dessert amazing!!!!
It was my 5 time here. Today was the first timeme. Was disappointed. It took a long time for our meals to arrive. The appetizer took 40 mins and entrees took 50 mins.
Gente is a nice, unpretentious place. The eggplant rollatini appetizer was wonderful and the chicken marsala was very tasty. My friend had the grilled shrimp which was also very good. For dessert, I had gelato which was excellent, although available only in chocolate and vanilla. My friend had the grandma cake. The wait staff was friendly and cordial. Overall, we had a nice time and were able to converse easily. I would go back.
It Washington excelent , very friendly Services and good food.
Unfotunatly when they brought us the bill we noticed that they tried to charge us the gratuity twice.
The gratuity first charged in the bill, among the dishes, then at the end, as usual.
This ceases completely the confidence.
Really enjoyed our food; waiter was great. Was the night before Mother's Day and nice touch-passed out rose as I was leaving. Only negative was the music volume. Music itself was fine, Just way too loud for conversation. Many of the patrons enjoyed it though, so may have been just me. I was looking to be able to talk to my date and was too noisy for much conversation.
Gente was a little bit louder than my friend and I had expected. We went on a Friday at 7 and could barely hear one another the music was so loud. The food was good, but the ambiance was just not for us.
Food was delicious and the staff was very attentive and professional.
Great experience -- food, service, ambiance was great -- but wine was way over priced -- paid $50 for a bottle that could be purchased for $12.
Great food and service! Don’t miss osso buco! !What a little gem!
They cannot toast the bread they serve with the oil. Asked twice but no can do!
Great food and service. Will return.
Everything was very good we just didn't know that there was a DJ on Friday night. Was very loud and we were not able to really talk with out yelling. Food and service were excellent though.
great food - especially the seafood spaghetti. they take the extra effort to make things nice. not their fault - but some out of town customers were yelling to be heard and cackling - like they were in a farm in the mid-west. new Yorkers are usually more aware of others around them. they turned up the music to help the other customers out. ridiculous people
their prix-fixed is a good value.
Very good Italian food. The service was prompt and friendly. You have to try the negroni 's they were great. Would recommend for a relaxing evening or before a show.
Terrible Food. Way overpriced. Go eat at a diner. That's what the food tastes like. Average dish is $35, and a prefix with small appetizer and desert is $45. Went with 4 people and bill was $240. After $160 off for Groupon, we still paid like $45 each. I ordered the Sea Bass. They put the pasta with sauce on the same dish as the fish fillet. Never saw such a measly portion of pasta. No taste. Fish tasted frozen. No comparison to Carmines or any descent Italian Restaurant.
Excellent food at good value prices.
Respectable wine list at reasonable prices. Excellent service. Welcoming staff. Will go again.
Pretty nice place with sensible portions, quick service and good food. It’s a bit pricey, but the food is a good quality.
We had the salad and risotto and it was good
I ordered the wrong thing. My friend ordered the pasta dish and it was full plate. I ordered the full salad with shrimp and there were only four medium sized shrimp. The price was $26 whereas my friend's pasta dish was $13. I would have expected my salad have more shrimp for the price.
I was not impressed with the risotto I ordered. The staff was friendly.
Very good of the management to give us a round table in the corner. Service was good and food very nice.
Just ok. Not great value and food wasn't anything special. Good service and liked that it wasn't too crowded or noisy.
We had six people so we took the table on the far corner. All the people working there were very nice and responsive. It was not a very busy evening and we spent a great evening. We were all very happy with the food and services. Definitely would recommend the friends!
A convenient place near Grand Central with traditional Italian favorites and friendly, attentive staff
Enjoyable experience, great service (as usual) and excellent food. Will be back!
We went out for a family gathering. The service was okay, but nothing spectacular. Our waiter was never asked if we needed any help with the menu or told if there were any specials. He just handed them to us, asked if we wanted a drink and then walked off. I think part of the reason for the what seemed to be the cold shoulder might have been because of the barrier between demographic background between us. Regardless, our meal was great, the portions were good, and we were very pleased. The desserts were fabulous, and the espresso was very good too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great place to eat Italian that is off the beaten path.
Met friends for dinner. I had the spaghetti frutti di mare. Loved it. Service was great. Would definitely go again.
Reliable Italian food, good range of prices, excellent service.
My wife called it an Irish Pub masquerading as an Italian restaurant. Food was very good, a little pricey. Not a lot of beer options, but I was just happy to get a second beer because the waiter was so busy. So a lot of people go, but it’s not the quiet romantic place we were looking for. Everyone was really nice though.
We have never been disappointed with Gente. Excellent polenta appetizer. Be sure to ask for it.
Desserts weren’t great and the service was a little slow, but very pleasant waitstaff and tasty entrees.
it has been a few years since last visit. Was as good as I last remember. Very good lunch[ price fix options]. Food quality and quantity perfect. I will return.
Gente is an adequate Italian restaurant, fairly close to Grand Central Terminal. We went somewhat late which might explain why it was so empty.
The positives were:
quiet - easy to converse
The negatives were:
food was indeed decent but quite unexciting
much too expensive for what we ordered or what it was worth.
Menu a bit dated but wholesome classic food
For me, food is average, good on palate but not that as to wow you when you see it. But overall, it is okay and pretty relax, friendly staff.
Gente is still a favorite after 15 years of reliably great Italian food and impeccable service. Thanks, Eddie, for making another wonderful memory for my 90-year-old mom! She hadn't been to Gente since we had her 80th birthday party there--an event for the ages!!!
My wife and I brought my mother to NYC because she had never traveled there. Gente was down the street from our hotel, so it was very convenient. We had a 5:30 reservation. It was not very busy, so it was relatively quiet. For our meal we had the carpaccio, lasagne, veal Milanese with a side of pasta, a chocolate soufflé and a crème brulee. All of the food was quite good, and the staff was very attentive. It made for an enjoyable meal prior to departing the following day.
The food was adequate but nothing special, and it was incredibly noisy, even when only 1/3 full.
Food quality was excellent, service even better. Very reasonable for NY, you can't go wrong here. Give it a try!!
One of the worst dinners I've ever had.
