Service was attentive, but given my sleepless night the decaffeinated capacino I ordered at lunch wasn't.
GREAT. had large group. owner was very very nice. good luck
Very small space. Table was rocking not steady. Service very slow only two waiters for the restaurant. Food took long time to come. Very expensive and small quantity.
Overall an excellent experience! We highly recommend it!
Amazing food. Everything is cooked to perfection.
We came back after having an amazing experience a couple years ago. Food was as good as we remembered! We love it here! Best Italian outside of our time in Italy.
Portions are ridiculously small for the price. $25 for chicken marsala and pasta which came on one plate. The chicken was a one half of a small breast and the pasta was overcooked.
Had a wonderful meal with friends at Gente. Service was great and food was wonderful. Would definitely go back.
It was good food. Could of given us a little more though on our plate. I got the chicken parm and my fiance got eggplant parm. The sauce was really good. As far as service they were really nice. The bathroom was a little iffy but overall it was a pretty good restaurant. We would go back there. A little on the smaller side so if you dont care about ppl laughing or having convos it's fine.
Rushed to order and waiter came to clear table when one person was still eating.
Floor under my seat was dirty. Ladies room was dirty.
Will not return.
Have had a lot of pizza in NYC. Mostly good, some bad, this was by far the worst. Think it may have been a Celeste frozen pizza for $18. Meatballs tasted like they were just defrosted and heated up. The mains we got weren't as bad as the apps but for $22-$28 expected much better. Skip it.
The food and service was wonderful. Chicken marsala melted in your mouth.
Foods was mediocre, very disappointed overall. Ordered a squid ink pasta w. jumbo shrimp - the paste came out crumbled together, dried and was only three split shrimps on whole plate. Decent multi-grain pasta light tomato sauce with zucchini, broccoli, and tomatoes - like a plate of spaghetti in vegetable soup. Both grilled chicken breast w. herbs/spices and sea bass w. white wine, olive oil, lemon, slivered almonds were just average - nothing 'wow' about them, especially they were thinly sliced and lacked of flavor. Surprisingly, the saffron risotto w. sauteed mushrooms was delicious - the best of all dishes I ordered. Don't order antipasto plate - it looked like mix of foods from cafeteria piled up in one plate - two thinly sliced roasted beets, half cut portabella mushroom, stockpiled of string beans, spinach, and a tomato with fresh mozzarella cheese. In the end, the check came out with two double charged of similar entrees, and waiter didn't even realized it until I inquired about the charges. First time and the last time.
I thought to give it a try at Gente, but La Pecora Bianca Midtown is still the best in neighborhood.
Great food and great service!
Service was not great. Food mediocre at best. Really bad choice to go there.
The service & food never disappoint & Jay, the Owner, is friendly and always accommodating.
very nice quiet place with great food and service. tables not too close together so was a nice place to catch up with family
If you're looking for average Italian-American food and so-so service, Gente is just fine. My friends and I were attracted because of Gente's Instagram account, which boasts that the restaurant serves the largest raviolo in all of NYC. Of course, Gente doesn't actually have this on the menu (and they couldn't tell us when we could get it). They also heavily advertise a chicken parm burger on social media, but they don't actually make that either. The regular menu is very standard Italian-American fare, prepared in a mediocre fashion. The kobe meatballs on the crostini were dry. The texture of my risotto (which, to be fair, had a nice flavor) was all wrong. It wasn't creamy -- it was a solid mountain plopped onto a plate. While I would still be keen to try that jumbo raviolo, there's no guarantee I'd ever get it, so I won't be back. I serve better Italian food in my own apartment.
Came into NYC via train from upstate NY to meet my son and his girlfriend for dinner and looked for a restaurant close to Grand Central Station and googled restaurants and Gente looked like a nice restaurant. There were five of us including my wife and step-daughter. I feel Gente was a great choice. Food was great and was able to have good conversations quietly. We had our meals and then dessert. Service was great. Highly recommend Gente. Will keep in mind the next time I visit NYC.
Goor food, nice ambience, and very convenient to Grand Central.
Dinner was just OK. Expected more based on the ratings. Wine we ordered was stored at room temp and it showed.
Service was fair, had to call the waiter over several times to ask for service. Food was good not great
What a find in Midtown East! The owner and his team love their customers. Perfect for lunch or dinner with a friend if you're price sensitive. Perfect for a business lunch or dinner business since the menu is diverse and diet preferences are a consideration. My guest preferred a martini while reviewing the menu - the cocktails are generous. I preferred Whispering Angel rose by the glass. My guest and I split the Insalata di Gamberi - mixed greens, asparagus and grilled shrimp - and the Antipasto Plate. The chicken piccata came with a side of penne, the piccata sauce was flavorful and fresh. My guest had the Veal Milanese - which was ample size and wasn't overcooked. Gente isn't "fancy", it's great food.
Top notch food, quick service
Food was tasty but portions could have been a bit larger. The service was good and staff was friendly
The food was so BLAND--no flavor at all--I was truly shocked that the restaurant had such a high rating (which is why I decided to make a stop there while in New York). The reality is the food was so flavorless, I am amazed that it is still open--unless New Yorkers thing this is what food should be--flavorless.
We were looking for a good Italian restaurant after the one we used to go to for lunch closed. We tried Gente and the food and service were outstanding. We will definitely be going back in the future.
Service at dinner, a busier time, was less coordinated than the lunch hours. Caprese salad was a good choice, as was the carpaccio, though the meat had little flavor. Chicken piccata looked more like a pizelle than scallopine, but was flavorful with the capers. Salmon done a bit more than requested, and lamb chops good but nothing special. Attractive wine list at reasonable prices.
A good informal midtown Italian, with attentive staff and a number of fine selections for lunch. Caprese salad had fresh tasty tomatoes, and the half portion was plenty, particularly in view of the large portions for the main dishes. Ravioli with mushroom was nicely served, and the veal Milanese was plenty, the veal a bit overbreaded. A fully satisfactory lunch, encourages a return for dinner.
Staff was so kind !!!! Made the evening very enjoyable!
We were very disappointed. My chicken marsala was bland and I had asked for vegetables instead of pasta but at first they brought pasta. Won't go again.
I was at Gente for lunch and thought the food was quite good, and a good value. I was especially impressed by the fact that we were in no way rushed, even though my group was there at the height of the lunch hour rush. The service was fine, but we were never asked if we wanted our drinks refreshed. That being said, we could have gotten someone's attention if we did.
We had a lovely time. Good good, nice people.
Just ok food and ambience. Dessert better than main course.
Friends from several cities on the East Coast were getting together and one recommended Gente. We were so happy with the restaurant for several reasons. It was quiet enough for us to have a great conversation. The service was terrific. The food was wonderful. We opted to share an appetizer of very succulent heirloom tomatoes, very fresh burrata and crispy artichokes. And then we all ordered the veal milanese that was tasty, with the variations of texture from veal that was coated but not greasy and fresh rugula and chopped tomatoes on top. I can't wait to go back.
Love this place food is absolutely amazing wish i lived closer so I could go there more
We had a wonderful pre theater dinner. The kobe meatball crostini app was delicious. Out entrees, homemade mushroom ravioli and veal scallopini were both very good. We enjoyed the cappucino gelato desert....delicious. The servers were attentive and very pleasant.
Love this Italian place but was not satisfied with my meal this time. Was a salad(presented as a meal)Portion too small.
A great find while visiting NYC. The rosotto was amazing.
They were on NYC restaurant week website, when we sat they said theey didnt have a restaurant week menu. We were already stuck basically. Food was not good
