This is my near Grand Central go to restaurant for meeting friend for lunch in the city. I’ve been going there for years for personal and business lunches. Food is good and pricing average for midtown Manhattan. Generally not too overcrowded. It can be noisy do get a table nearer the window or back wall if you can

I was surprised that I was not accommodated with the following easy requests: 1. Can I have gluten free pasta - waiter said "it will take at least 25 minutes to prepare" What? cooking times are same for regular pasta. 2. can we have half meatball appetizer with cheese, and other half without? waiter said " the chef will not like that, no it's not possible." again, horrible service and when we got 4 separate bread pieces of apps, my request could have easily been accommodated. This is unacceptable in NY let alone anywhere else.

As always, the service was terrific, and I love that the kitchen is always very accommodating for special requests. The Chicken Marsala was the biggest hit on the table with chicken tender enough to cut with a fork.

It was good food. Could of given us a little more though on our plate. I got the chicken parm and my fiance got eggplant parm. The sauce was really good. As far as service they were really nice. The bathroom was a little iffy but overall it was a pretty good restaurant. We would go back there. A little on the smaller side so if you dont care about ppl laughing or having convos it's fine.

Have had a lot of pizza in NYC. Mostly good, some bad, this was by far the worst. Think it may have been a Celeste frozen pizza for $18. Meatballs tasted like they were just defrosted and heated up. The mains we got weren't as bad as the apps but for $22-$28 expected much better. Skip it.

Foods was mediocre, very disappointed overall. Ordered a squid ink pasta w. jumbo shrimp - the paste came out crumbled together, dried and was only three split shrimps on whole plate. Decent multi-grain pasta light tomato sauce with zucchini, broccoli, and tomatoes - like a plate of spaghetti in vegetable soup. Both grilled chicken breast w. herbs/spices and sea bass w. white wine, olive oil, lemon, slivered almonds were just average - nothing 'wow' about them, especially they were thinly sliced and lacked of flavor. Surprisingly, the saffron risotto w. sauteed mushrooms was delicious - the best of all dishes I ordered. Don't order antipasto plate - it looked like mix of foods from cafeteria piled up in one plate - two thinly sliced roasted beets, half cut portabella mushroom, stockpiled of string beans, spinach, and a tomato with fresh mozzarella cheese. In the end, the check came out with two double charged of similar entrees, and waiter didn't even realized it until I inquired about the charges. First time and the last time. I thought to give it a try at Gente, but La Pecora Bianca Midtown is still the best in neighborhood.

If you're looking for average Italian-American food and so-so service, Gente is just fine. My friends and I were attracted because of Gente's Instagram account, which boasts that the restaurant serves the largest raviolo in all of NYC. Of course, Gente doesn't actually have this on the menu (and they couldn't tell us when we could get it). They also heavily advertise a chicken parm burger on social media, but they don't actually make that either. The regular menu is very standard Italian-American fare, prepared in a mediocre fashion. The kobe meatballs on the crostini were dry. The texture of my risotto (which, to be fair, had a nice flavor) was all wrong. It wasn't creamy -- it was a solid mountain plopped onto a plate. While I would still be keen to try that jumbo raviolo, there's no guarantee I'd ever get it, so I won't be back. I serve better Italian food in my own apartment.

Came into NYC via train from upstate NY to meet my son and his girlfriend for dinner and looked for a restaurant close to Grand Central Station and googled restaurants and Gente looked like a nice restaurant. There were five of us including my wife and step-daughter. I feel Gente was a great choice. Food was great and was able to have good conversations quietly. We had our meals and then dessert. Service was great. Highly recommend Gente. Will keep in mind the next time I visit NYC.
