Dinner was just OK. Expected more based on the ratings. Wine we ordered was stored at room temp and it showed.
Service was fair, had to call the waiter over several times to ask for service. Food was good not great
What a find in Midtown East! The owner and his team love their customers. Perfect for lunch or dinner with a friend if you're price sensitive. Perfect for a business lunch or dinner business since the menu is diverse and diet preferences are a consideration. My guest preferred a martini while reviewing the menu - the cocktails are generous. I preferred Whispering Angel rose by the glass. My guest and I split the Insalata di Gamberi - mixed greens, asparagus and grilled shrimp - and the Antipasto Plate. The chicken piccata came with a side of penne, the piccata sauce was flavorful and fresh. My guest had the Veal Milanese - which was ample size and wasn't overcooked. Gente isn't "fancy", it's great food.
Top notch food, quick service
Food was tasty but portions could have been a bit larger. The service was good and staff was friendly
The food was so BLAND--no flavor at all--I was truly shocked that the restaurant had such a high rating (which is why I decided to make a stop there while in New York). The reality is the food was so flavorless, I am amazed that it is still open--unless New Yorkers thing this is what food should be--flavorless.
We were looking for a good Italian restaurant after the one we used to go to for lunch closed. We tried Gente and the food and service were outstanding. We will definitely be going back in the future.
Service at dinner, a busier time, was less coordinated than the lunch hours. Caprese salad was a good choice, as was the carpaccio, though the meat had little flavor. Chicken piccata looked more like a pizelle than scallopine, but was flavorful with the capers. Salmon done a bit more than requested, and lamb chops good but nothing special. Attractive wine list at reasonable prices.
A good informal midtown Italian, with attentive staff and a number of fine selections for lunch. Caprese salad had fresh tasty tomatoes, and the half portion was plenty, particularly in view of the large portions for the main dishes. Ravioli with mushroom was nicely served, and the veal Milanese was plenty, the veal a bit overbreaded. A fully satisfactory lunch, encourages a return for dinner.
Staff was so kind !!!! Made the evening very enjoyable!
We were very disappointed. My chicken marsala was bland and I had asked for vegetables instead of pasta but at first they brought pasta. Won't go again.
I was at Gente for lunch and thought the food was quite good, and a good value. I was especially impressed by the fact that we were in no way rushed, even though my group was there at the height of the lunch hour rush. The service was fine, but we were never asked if we wanted our drinks refreshed. That being said, we could have gotten someone's attention if we did.
We had a lovely time. Good good, nice people.
Just ok food and ambience. Dessert better than main course.
Friends from several cities on the East Coast were getting together and one recommended Gente. We were so happy with the restaurant for several reasons. It was quiet enough for us to have a great conversation. The service was terrific. The food was wonderful. We opted to share an appetizer of very succulent heirloom tomatoes, very fresh burrata and crispy artichokes. And then we all ordered the veal milanese that was tasty, with the variations of texture from veal that was coated but not greasy and fresh rugula and chopped tomatoes on top. I can't wait to go back.
Love this place food is absolutely amazing wish i lived closer so I could go there more
We had a wonderful pre theater dinner. The kobe meatball crostini app was delicious. Out entrees, homemade mushroom ravioli and veal scallopini were both very good. We enjoyed the cappucino gelato desert....delicious. The servers were attentive and very pleasant.
Love this Italian place but was not satisfied with my meal this time. Was a salad(presented as a meal)Portion too small.
A great find while visiting NYC. The rosotto was amazing.
They were on NYC restaurant week website, when we sat they said theey didnt have a restaurant week menu. We were already stuck basically. Food was not good
Dispite the fact that Gente was eligible for 100 open table points when I made the reservation, upon being seated I received an open table text indicating the reservation was ineligible for points. I arrived just behind two guys who did not have a reservation and they were seated at the last remaining window seat rather than saving it for the next reservation party which would have been my party of 2. The waiters were not professional, the food was average, it was really loud and it took forever to get the check.
Great service, friendly waiters, great tiramisu, laid back staff with a sense of humor, good fixed price menu,
The food was nowhere near authentic Itisn. They served minestrone soup as a clear broth with celery, carrot and potato bits. Nothing else. The grilled salmon arrived with cold broccoli and overcooked potato slices that were fried to the maximum. The waiter was rude when I said that the chef cannot be Italian, serving food like this. The chef was not Italian I found out. Only the chef above him had visited Italy yet still allowed such disgraceful meals to leave the kitchen. Then a different waiter did not bring the dessert menu. He rudely brought the bill. I did not leave any tip for disgusting food and awful service.
Restaurant Samstag Abend fast leer, kein Wunder, da keine Stimmung
Gente is just a stone's-throw from Grand Central on 45th St. Owner Jay Mitchell prides himself on discovering authentic Italian recipes and fresh ingredients, and the menu changes with the seasons. The food is always great, atmosphere is casual and the service is prompt and professional. Vegetarians will enjoy the house-made minestrone soup, pasta primavera, and ravioli choices, along with salads. A great place to eat in a great location.
Repeat visit, good food and great service. Loved the tiramisu
It was a great Date with Mom. The service excellent and the food Delish. Omg! The Limoncello dessert amazing!!!!
It was my 5 time here. Today was the first timeme. Was disappointed. It took a long time for our meals to arrive. The appetizer took 40 mins and entrees took 50 mins.
Gente is a nice, unpretentious place. The eggplant rollatini appetizer was wonderful and the chicken marsala was very tasty. My friend had the grilled shrimp which was also very good. For dessert, I had gelato which was excellent, although available only in chocolate and vanilla. My friend had the grandma cake. The wait staff was friendly and cordial. Overall, we had a nice time and were able to converse easily. I would go back.
It Washington excelent , very friendly Services and good food.
Unfotunatly when they brought us the bill we noticed that they tried to charge us the gratuity twice.
The gratuity first charged in the bill, among the dishes, then at the end, as usual.
This ceases completely the confidence.
Really enjoyed our food; waiter was great. Was the night before Mother's Day and nice touch-passed out rose as I was leaving. Only negative was the music volume. Music itself was fine, Just way too loud for conversation. Many of the patrons enjoyed it though, so may have been just me. I was looking to be able to talk to my date and was too noisy for much conversation.
Gente was a little bit louder than my friend and I had expected. We went on a Friday at 7 and could barely hear one another the music was so loud. The food was good, but the ambiance was just not for us.
Food was delicious and the staff was very attentive and professional.
Great experience -- food, service, ambiance was great -- but wine was way over priced -- paid $50 for a bottle that could be purchased for $12.
Great food and service! Don’t miss osso buco! !What a little gem!
They cannot toast the bread they serve with the oil. Asked twice but no can do!
Great food and service. Will return.
Everything was very good we just didn't know that there was a DJ on Friday night. Was very loud and we were not able to really talk with out yelling. Food and service were excellent though.
great food - especially the seafood spaghetti. they take the extra effort to make things nice. not their fault - but some out of town customers were yelling to be heard and cackling - like they were in a farm in the mid-west. new Yorkers are usually more aware of others around them. they turned up the music to help the other customers out. ridiculous people
their prix-fixed is a good value.
Very good Italian food. The service was prompt and friendly. You have to try the negroni 's they were great. Would recommend for a relaxing evening or before a show.
