Genovese Ratings and Reviews
We visited Genovese for the first time this past weekend and thought the food was excellent. They started us out with some complementary bread which was very good....I was disappointed they didn't offer another round of bread to go with the meal after we finished off the first sample. The appetizer was very good, so no complaints there. The main course for both of us was very delicious. The Lobster Ravioli was excellent and my wife enjoyed the Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled Chicken. The service we had was good - not above or below average. We will certainly repeat as customers in the future.
Our dinner was disappointing 4 of us ordered what we remember as our favorite pasta ..
Bolognese with mushrooms. There may have been one teaspoon of meat, a few sliced mushroom and some olive oil. There were fresh herbs (stems in the pasta to prove it). Pretty. blah. One ordered pizza and it was good. All in All ...expensive and not impressive. Probably go for mexicannexttime 😐
Food was excellent as always. The service was hit and miss, but not terrible, just not as great as it can be. They have a good wine menu. The dinner menu is not large, but reasonable and not overwhelming like some. All in all it is a good restaurant we plan to continue to frequent.
The bruschetta was different (it was cream cheese) but still very good. I had a chicken breast with tomatoes and a balsamic glaze and it was good, clearly the best dish at the table. There were complaints about small and inconsistent size of the lamb chops. Also, it came with gnocchi which nobody seemed to care for. I tried it and it was just ok. My wife had a very rich ravioli which was good, but overly creamy and hard to eat in one sitting. Lots of left-overs, except for me, and they seemed better the next day. This was our second trip to Genovese and probably our last.
We made a last minute reservation and they were very accommodating on a busy Parent's weekend. We were seated upstairs next to a large group that was kind of noisy, but we understood that it was friends getting together. We've been seated on the patio in the past and that is lovely. My daughter requested a dish she'd had before, but wasn't currently on their menu and they were very nice to make it for her. Pizza's are outstanding!
This was our first time at Genovese. We did not know what to expect but our meal exceeded all expectations. The Italian cuisine was very good, with tremendous flavor and portion. The food is served hot and the aromas were most appealing. The wine list is very good and matches most we have seen in Kansas City metro. I would recommend this place for great meals and decent prices.
We tried Genovese for the first time while visiting our daughter in Lawrence. The food was outstanding, but we noted the menu online had more choices than were available on the daily menu. Not a big problem but some in our group had already selected options online and were disappointed to learn they were not available that night. Service was outstanding and overall we had a great dinner. We will plan to go back again.
We appreciated the friendly service and "can-do" attitude about changing menu items to meet our vegan needs! The owner came over twice to make sure everything was going ok. This will go on our list of all-time favorite restaurants in Lawrence, along with Zen Zero and La Parilla. Interestingly enough, all 3 are owned by the same group and all 3 offer a creative, flexible menu, good service, and nice ambience.
Our go to place in Lawrence. Haven't had a meal yet that i wouldn't recommend to a friend. Staff is friendly and engaging. Cocktails are reasonable and well made and the wine selection is adequate. A great place for a special occasion or just sit at the bar to wind down from a long day.
Went out for dinner with a colleague. It was graduation weekend, so I'm sure that played into the food quality (then again, I haven't been impressed with my previous visits either). I ordered the sea bass special and my colleague ordered the salmon. I kid you not - they were both scorched. There's "blackened" and then there's burned... both of our meals were the latter. The server did offer to have a new one made, but you know how that goes. We would have waited another 20 minutes, when the meal already took awhile to get to us. Sadly, this is going to be my last time visiting.
Went to Genovese twice in one week---it was that good (and I live out of town)
They have wonderfully unique "specials" . First night I had duck, the second I had rabbit Bolognese. Both were incredible. If you like (no love) Bolognese...you must go. Their flat bread pizzas are also great!
Genovese always delivers on Italian food cooked with love and soul. But the restaurant also delivers on human kindness, empathetic staff (when you have rambunctious kids, need flexibility if your party doesn't all arrive at the same time, or need something special) and caring about its customers in general. This is a quality restaurant, instilled with great Larry values and terrific food.
We enjoyed Easter brunch at Genovese. From the initial greeting all the way through our meal, everything was great. We had egg dishes, French toast and biscuits and gravy. Everything was well prepared and the service staff was great. Overall a good value for the money. We would return or recommend for brunch.
Our waiter was awesome..of course he has taken care of us before. We always ask for "no bread" and he listens. The food was wonderful.well priced and service was outstanding. We frequent this restaurant because the staff is quick to serve and get our order correct.
