   It was our first time there. had nice reviews so we thought we'd try it out for my wife's birthday. A Friday night at 5:15 pm. It was empty. We were the only ones there. We figured, ok, they just opened so more people will come soon. One other couple (regulars) came in after us and left before us. Otherwise . . . no one else! This isn't bad . . . it was just weird. HOWEVER, the food was excellent! the gentlemen who was the only person there was very nice and provided wonderful service. The restaurant is beautiful. He had beautiful classical music playing. but other than that one couple who came and went . . no one else. We laughed and thought it funny that we had the place all to ourselves. We are looking forward to going back later in the evening some day to hear the live music and to see what it's like when there are other people there. Bottom line - I recommend it.

   I can honestly say we laughed a lot. We were one of the only diners there (there were 6 of us). Service was super slow. The restaurant smelled bad and we would have left but we were tired and hungry. The water we were served had things floating in it... like large chucks of things, so we got bottled water. The food was actually really, really good. So you have to overlook the smell, the nasty water, the slow service and the complete lack of ambiance to enjoy the food. We did laugh a lot, but I would never return.

   We visited this restaurant four or five years ago. While the actual dinner was good, we felt uncomfortable in being the only patrons in the lovely dining room. We felt like we shouldn't linger over dinner because we were the only reason the staff couldn't leave. We hoped that in our more recent visit others would have discovered this restaurant - but alas it was not to be. For most of the time ours was the only occupied table. The decor is lovely, the menu interesting, the quality of the food is fine and the service quite good. But the lack of "life" in a beautiful dining room, because it is so empty, is an issue for me. I hope others discover this place soon. It deserves to succeed.

   We ordered fried calamary for appetizer and it was bad. Sevice was so beyond bad.

   Before I talk about the negatives, I always like to highlight the positives... the restaurant was cute, cozy and inviting. My husband and I were really looking forward to tasting the items on the menu according to what is published online, however, it being Valentine's Day we were unaware that they had a preset menu which was highly disappointing considering the limited amount of choices. As a restaurant though, if you choose only a limited amount of items, they should be pretty wonderful, as your kitchen only has to focus on a smaller selection. So, let's begin at the drinks... We really enjoy our red wine and were looking forward to enjoying a nice bottle that night. According to other reviewers, Gennaros was supposed to have a great selection; not true. There were 4 selections of Cabernet Sauvignon listed, the best bottle being $40. For a 4 star restaurant, a $40 bottle of Cab is highly disappointing. Also, we are big Italian "foodies " so the appetizer selection (fried calamari and smoked salmon) was not what we were looking forward to but we did try both appetizers. The smoked salmon with capers and creme fresh was good, but the calamari was very untraditional (cut into large, onion ring like shapes) and was just okay. For entrees, we ordered 2 different veal dishes (osso bucco, and the broiled sliced veal ) and they were mediocre at best. The whole front of house staff in the restaurant was only 1 server, 1 busser, 1 hostess/water refill person for a restaurant with 20ish tables. I will give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe they had an "off" day/night but we were very disappointed to say the least; considering we drove 40 miles to enjoy dinner there.

   It was a lunch date. We were seated immediately, the location of the restaurant is great. The bar looks great.

   A very nice, intimate dining experience in a neighborhood where there are not a lot of choices.

   Osso buco salty. Salmon looked good. Calamari rings seemed from "package". Asparagus and mushroom appetizer good. Slow service with small dining room manned by one person but not crowded. We were second party seated and waited a good ten minutes then tried catching single server's attention. Noticed third party, arriving five minutes after us, was seated and already giving order to single server, maybe because they ordered a bottle of wine and we did not. Quiet with live piano music

   Unfortunately, I must say that Gennaro's Ristorante was truly one of the worst food experiences we have had in over 20 years of dining in Los Angeles. We are "easy" customers, but out of the four of us at the table, not ONE of us had a meal that was remotely edible in any fashion. We're talking caesar salad that was basically a bowl of cut lettuce swimming in a vinegar "dressing" that was horrible.....a salmon that was presented, yet again -- swimming -- in a garlic / butter sauce that was dreadful, and two other meals that were LOADED with so much salt one could simply not eat it. This was not a case of one of us selecting the wrong thing to order --- all four orders were extremely bad. So sorry -- but please be sure to pass on this restaurant.

    We had a New Years Eve dinner. We were from out of town. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was old fashioned Italian. Very charming. We would go back again.
