Gennaro's of Hamilton Ratings and Reviews
We ordered pizza as an appetizer--that probably was the highlight. The entrees otherwise (veal parm, a fish special) were large portions and good food. There was a sharing charge..and our server was young and generally inattentive. From an atmosphere perspective, they have a nice casual dining room but have an extra large TV screen in it that flashes menu specials and desserts...which in our mind made the place more tacky.
Great for night out with friends but way to noisy for date night. Tables are very close together it was my first time visiting and my husband and I were looking for quiet conversation but with a table of 6 on top of us and sharing my bench with there kids climbing on the bench knocking my purse down every 5 min and there table 6 inches from us it made it a bad date night choice . I would definitely go back with friends or with my family the food was great but it's off my date night list.
Nice, safe neighborhood. Good parking. Attentive, quick maître d'. Server was clean, smart, great attitude. Spoke clear English. Specials of every variety. I would like to see more variety of seafood choices, but we both ordered the shrimp special which was outstanding. It was notably and delightfully light on the salt, which most other restaurants overdo to the point of ruining their dishes. We did not try the desserts, but I am sure they are equally well prepared. Half the patrons were seniors, while the others were mostly attractive young ladies and two young couples. BYOB.
Always a place I like go with girlfriends for dinner for a night out. Take out too. We invited our friends for a birthday dinner. Delightful experience. Two of our guest ordered veal marsala and both were very disappointed with it. They did not wish to complain since it was a birthday celebration. Declined to even take home the leftovers. Everyone else loved their meals. Great service all evening long.
Appetizers were amazing...calamari, bruschetta and eggplant! Homemade salad dressing was good enough to drink on its own! Bread and oil infused with loads of garlic was beyond good! There were 6 of us and for dinner the order was: chicken parmigiana, veal Marsala, chicken Marsala, eggplant parmigiana and another veal and chicken dish (can't remember which ones), but everything was amazing. Will definitely be back!
This restaurant seemed like a good choice to bring a group to for an early dinner before going to the Kelsey theater nearby. I often order mussels & linguini in an Italian restaurant like this and was quite surprised to have been charged an additional $2.00 for a little spice in my tomato sauce. That was a turn off to me as I had been there before.
We've been to Gennaro's a couple of times now and have had inconsistent experiences, so maybe last night was just an off-night, but I was disappointed. Your luck might be better, but my advice is don't order the veal saltimbocca - it was tough and slathered in a brown gravy that made the whole dish look unappetizing. I enjoyed the lentil soup, and my guests enjoyed their meals, and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant, so overall I can give them a "good". I have to say I was not surprised, though, when they cleared our table and didn't ask why the all that veal saltimbocca was being discarded. I'm guessing I wasn't the only customer leaving most of it on the plate.
Gennaro's is a great place. We were so glad to find it for upscale food in a comfortable environment. Low key and a come-as-you-are kind of place. Just love the overall vibe. Friendly and open hosts and waitstaff. Great food and comfortable atmosphere. Varied menu and healthy portion sizes. BYOB. We often come here for date nights out when we get a sitter and it's always worth it.
We are regulars at Gennaro's. The food is always super, especially the chicken francaise and the Mediterranean Salad. The staff is very friendly and efficient. We make a point of visiting every chance we get. Reservations are a must. Great place for families.
This was my first time at this restaurant. We started with good bread and olive with roasted garlic chunks for dipping. The eggplant parm appetizer was so delicious we could have eaten it as an entree. Yum! Really excellent sauce and fresh ingredients.
I personally had a special, the Chilean Sea Bass which melted in my mouth. Others had veal, linguini with clams, and spaghetti with meatballs.
We shared one of my all time favorite desserts, Tartufo. However, this was called a Bomba (same idea) and it had Coconut ice cream inside. It was absolutely wonderful.
The restaurant ambiance was very nice, with good lighting. I'd like to see them expand a bit, but it was very nicely decorated.
Service was attentive, pleasant, and just the right amount of check back service.
This was a terrific experience.
I chose to go to Gennaro's with my family for New Year's Eve because of the special menu although it seemed expensive. We were seated immediately on arrival and everyone was very friendly. The decor is upscale and very comfortable and relaxing. From the time we sat down, everything was perfect. The flow and timing of the 4 courses was excellent, we were even given sherbet after our salads to cleanse our pallettes. The wait staff was not overly attentive and the food......the food was EXCELLENT! So worth the money that we spent. I couldnt have asked for a better evening. I would go back there again in a heartbeat, especially for a special event!
Despite having a 6:30pm reservation (arriving at 6:25) on a Tuesday we still waited 30 minutes to be seated and not in the location that was specifically requested AND confirmed via phone.
The food was wonderful and worth the wait, though. Our party had an Old Fashioned Pizza with sausage and pepperoni, Chicken Parm, Chicken Arturo, and Chicken Francais. We again had sides of brussell sprouts with carmelized onions, and escarole and beans.
It was crazy busy yet the food was superb. The only disappointments were: cappuccino was served cold (actually sent back which was a first for me) and the cannoli was nothing special. My suggestions to the person who makes decisions would be to increase the portions of the 'sides'. We ordered these again, assuming that for $7each they would be enough for family-style serving. They were- but with one spoonful per person. If they are meant to be a serving for only one person then maybe mention that in the menu description.
Still love the place though and will definitely return.
This was another special Christmas Eve dinner at Gennaro's. It started with having Michael as our server. We have known Michael for many years and he so special to us. Then it was an absolutely fabulous dinner. Nothing could have made this dinner more special. It is a neighborhood gem for us and we absolutely love it.
We are frequent diners at Gennaro's because of the quality of the food. The Mediterranean Salad is awesome as is the Chicken Francaise. They make the best lentil soup around as well. Great service. We are always surprised at how small the bill is for such great food.
Totally worth the trip. Found on a whim and discovered a gem. Had fabulous service despite the restaurant getting packed about a half hour after we arrived.
Had chicken parm, a pasta special and a fish special. All were wonderful, generous and utterly delectable. The pizzas being served at nearby tables looked delectable and we'll be trying them on our next visit. Nice Italian vegetable side dishes (escarole and beans, and brussel sprouts with carmelized onions).
A surprise delightful discovery that we are looking forward to enjoying again!
Very nice restaurant. Service was excellent. The food was very good. I had the chicken francaise. It was very tasty. My friend had the pork chop. I have had it before and I recommended it. My friend loved it. My wife's salmon was also excellent. We will be going again for sure. Highly recommended.
Great place to dine in our area. Five minutes from my house. A hidden secret. You wouldnt think from the outside, what a beautiful place it is inside. Nice ambiance. Very comfortable. Nice staff. I would reccomend it. Food is delicious, and their lentil soup is awesome.
We went to Gennaro's for my daughter's birthday based on a recommendation from her friends. We were so happy we did! The service was attentive but not intrusive, and the food was excellent. Sides are quite generous, and we should have shared them (next time). Cannot wait to go back!
