General Warren Ratings and Reviews
While the General Warren Inn is beautiful and has historic ambiance, we were disappointed. Yes, the place is lovely, but the drafts on a cold evening ruined the ambiance for us, despite a roaring fire in the fireplace. The food was inconsistent. Some of our dishes were excellent - the Caesar salad made tableside among them. Others were big disappointments, such as their “signature” Beef Wellington. The beef, which should have been a premium filet, was tasteless. Our server was cheerful, helpful and attentive, however the bar got two of our four drinks wrong. Maybe this place is better for lunch or on a nice warm day, but we won’t be going again to find out.
My friend and I visited on a Friday night for dinner. Complementary valet service was very welcome as it was raining heavily. We arrived about 10 minutes and our table was ready. We were seated on an enclosed porch which was quite comfortable. My dining partner ordered salmon, I had the Beef Wellington. Both were perfectly prepared and arrived hot. We split the Caesar salad, which was prepared table side, and it was delicious. Service is friendly and paced to the diners. We both had carrot cake for dessert. The wine list is extensive. If you have a particular preference, check the wine list out in advance on the web. My friend will purchase a gift certificate for her daughter and son-in-law.
Six of us had NYE dinner at the General Warren Inne. It is such a cozy, winter venue with roaring fireplaces and intimate dining rooms. Unfortunately, the food was not up to their usual dinner standards. Four of the six entrees came out lukewarm. The filet and lobster were tough and unseasoned and the other entrees were just okay — uninspired.
A real negative was the two valets: they gave our limo driver the hardest time when he was both dropping us off and picking us up! There was not another car in the entire driveway (the restaurant was not even half full) yet they kept telling him to move! It almost came to fisticuffs!! I truly think that it was an ethnic issue as our driver is Egyptian. He has been driving us for years and is so polite, mild-mannered, and such a gentleman. The two valets were relentless and completely in the wrong. They wanted him to pick us up on the road and not in the driveway on a very cold night with ladies in heels and my husband using a cane. We will certainly think twice before choosing the General Warren for another evening out, and definitely not on a holiday. It’s a shame.
My husband and I had the most wonderful experience! We are going back for New Year's Eve this year! Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be taking friends and family there for lunch or dinner! I am telling everyone I work with, that they have just got to go to The General Warren Inn.
We went on a date here as it came highly recommended. I will say that overall, the experience was fine. The server was polite, the food was timely and came out warm, there were a lot of nice touches like free valet and coat check.
The food was extremely expensive for the quality. The quality was alright, but had that fancy hotel food quality versus upscale restaurant quality. It seemed like a lot of prepackaged, pre-prepared items, nothing terribly fresh, most of the food was oversalted by quite a bit.
On the whole, if you need a nice place to take your grandparents, this is it, but ultimately we won’t be back.
For a special occasion, this restaurant never disappoints. Cozy dining in a revolutionary tavern. The food presentation, preparation and quality is consistently top notch, even when they are full of holiday diners. If you want to make an impression, choose this place.
The number of gluten free options was impressive and the quality of the gluten free meals (and desserts) was note worthy. Everyone enjoyed their meals from the starter to the desserts (including the 12-year-old). The service was great and the authentic and quaint charm of the dining room added to our Ladies Night Out. I highly recommend the General Warren Inn!!!
Fine dining defined. Great service from host, bar, kitchen and wait teams. Still offering classic old world fine dining in a charming dining room that reminds you of the days when folks got dressed up to go to dinner. Several roaring fireplaces do more than add heat to this historic old inn, they add the ambiance you seek on a chilly December night. We popped in seeking a quiet place to unwind after the holidays. Wasn't surprised to see every table occupied and the crowd three or four deep at the bar. Whether sampling the classics like their phenomenal rack of lamb, or the seasonal pan seared branzino with black garlic and truffle infused couscous - you'll never be be disappointed. As a regular - leave yourself some extra time to stop at the bar and introduce yourself to Tom for a hand crafted old world cocktail - he knows 'em all by heart, and he never forgets a name. If you haven't been go ... if you haven't been in a while, go back.
Our new holiday dining tradition, General Warren is a lovely historic inn with understated yet lovely holiday decor. All of our entrees were delicious with perfect accompaniments. The service was outstanding as well. Looking forward to our next visit. Well worth the one-hour drive.
The General Warren is a wonderful atmosphere that feels like a delightful step back in time. The servers wear tasteful uniforms that add to the sense of a special meal. The service itself was superb even though the place was full. Best of all was the menu selection that provided a varied option from beef, lamb to excellent fish options. Our family will continue to frequent this wonderful treasure in Malvern.
Celeste was an awesome server for our visit with my older parents. She was patient, took time to explain every choice and remained gracious in spite of having to repeat herself at each course. We also requested and were seated by the fire. That was a real bonus since my mother tends to prefer a warmer environment. We sat her close to the fire and the rest of us were very comfortable. Thanks for making it a wonderful experience for the four of us.
General Warren does not disappoint. The atmosphere is a lovely colonial era inn, decorated for the holidays. They offer complimentary valet parking which proved essential in a recent snowfall-they had scraped the windows and turned up the heater when my car was returned.
The lunch times servers were pleasant and good humored considering the restaurant was filled to overflowing with holiday lunchers.I had the duck confit flatbred, my friends had chicken roulade, croque monsieur and a beef stew, followed by their award winning cheesecake. Not a crumb was left.
Food was okay, service was extremely slow. Took 1.5 hours for a "quick" lunch. Parking was awful, and the valet guy was downright terroristic, threatening me with damage to my car if I parked in the lot, when the overflow lot was completely overflowing. Pretty awful experience all around. Sad to say, as it came highly recommended.
