General Warren Ratings and Reviews
The service was well paced and very personable. I have many food allergies that they were able to accommodate. I had a simple filet that was perfectly cooked. My daughter had the famous beef Wellington that she said she would "dream about" in the future. My husband had the salmon and said it was cooked perfectly. Everything was expertly seasoned.
Went to celebrate my Wife's birthday. The food was excellent, but the service was inattentive at best. Had to search for the waitress to get a glass of wine with my meal. After our meals were brought to the table, by someone other than our waitress, we never saw her again after she brought the wine I asked for. When she brought the wine she brusquely sat it the table and said "here you go" and off she went. She finally came back after we were finished our meals and I told her how disappointed I was with the service. She never even inquired if our meals were prepared correctly or if we even liked them. She was good enough though to comp my wine and a desert, but I have high expectations of a restaurant of this caliber and I don't think I will be going back.
The waitress was very accomodating. The Resturant was cold, she adjusted the temperature, our food was (all four platters were incorrectly prepared) she took them back and had them prepared properly. She (Nancy) however made a lovely Cesar salad and staff service was great. Unfortunately this is my second poor experience at the Inn. I was always such a fan and now there are too many inconsistencies.
Needs a new menu with more variety of foods. May have a different menu for each season. The salmon did not have much a taste and was too hard. The beef Wellington was not medium but well done and cold. The waiter informed the dishes were hot. The were actually cold. I guess waited too long to be served.
Beautiful night for outdoor dining. General Warren has Tavern, outdoor and dining room options. We were originally seated in Tavern but right in front of live music so opted to move outside. Everything was great. Food was great and we did not feel rushed. Only negative was that the host was a bit grumpy.
I'm a history nut, which was why I chose the General Warren Tavern. Unfortunately, just I have found with other "historical taverns," the history lesson is the best thing that these overpriced restaurants have to offer. We had 7:30 reservations on a Thursday night. The place was busy, but not overly so. The first thing my friend noticed as the manner (or lack thereof) of the host. He did not welcome us, was curt and quite unfriendly. For dinner, I ordered the 6 oz. filet mignon and a side salad instead of potatoes. It also came with steamed broccoli. My friend ordered the flank steak. She also had the "peach galette" for dessert ... highly praised by our waitress. All in all, our steaks were dry, room temperature, and had poor presentation. My salad was wilted and was also a bit warm. In all honesty, the food looked as if it had been prepared a few hours earlier and then left under a warming lamp. The peach galette wad lacking on the peach and the crust was think and dry. At a price of over $100 for the two of us (that includes one glass of wine and the tip) I definitely will not be returning.
Typically, I love the General Warren but a bit disappointed this past time. Food was marginally good - had mahi-mahi over farro which had little flavor and did not seem to be cooked properly. My dining companion also felt disappointed in a shrimp dish. Started with minuscule oysters with a rather strange dipping sauce. Upon arrival, we were told our table was being set up and could head to the bar. As soon as we got our drinks at the bar, we were called to the table. I asked if we could sit at the bar a bit longer but was told the restaurant was very busy and needed the table for another reservation. We headed to the bar after dinner and I did notice that people were seated at our table but there were many other open tables in the restaurant. So I feel we were rushed for no reason. The waitress seemed as if she would rather be anywhere than there so the service was good but would have been helped by a more pleasant attitude. I do give her credit for bringing an issue regarding the tip to our attention though. Very appreciative of that gesture. All in all, I love the GWI but this was not a good outing. I would go for cocktails and bar food anytime but not sure I would venture there for another dinner.
Never disappoints. Entertained business associates and clients at a perfectly appointed round table (helps the conversation), and all left pleased with their dining choices and the company. Execution sparkled from the host, bar, kitchen and wait teams. Old world classics (Cesar Salad table side, Steak AuPoivre) seamlessly with fresh fish choices like the pan roasted trout. If you haven't been in a while, go back. If you haven't been - GO.
