General Warren Ratings and Reviews
Initially, we were very excited for our first trip to the GW Inne. From its website, it looked charming. When we got there, our excitement remained, we had a nice seat at the bar while we waited for our table to be prepared. Once we sat down though, it was all down hill. The server was absolutely awful. He never came back to our table. There were tables around us that were seated after us, and got their food before us. We saw very attentive wait staff attending to the other tables, but our gentleman was at best, absent. We had to check on the arrival of our food, had to ask him for coffee after the main courses were finally cleared, and even then he never returned. We asked TWICE for our bill. Would not return or recommend due to poor service level.
Thanksgiving dinner was perfect and plentiful, posh but not stuffy, relaxed fine dining in a beautiful old inn. The staff would have gotten a "good" on service ( rather slow and coffee not served with dessert) but as it was a holiday and very busy I would say "very good plus" is more apt. The food was absolutely delicious, I didn't miss my home cooking for a second (and yes I am a good cook).
Very traditional atmosphere in a building built in the 1700's. Servers are long time employees s who are professional and friendly without being intrusive. Mushroom tarte and the snapper soup were excellent and both were recommended. The bronzino on special was cooked to perfection in a burre blanc sauce and was a generous portion. It was our first time thewre and we have already made reservations for dinner during the upcoming holidays.
Beautiful setting, great service and excellent food... Sandy our server is as good as it gets and has been with the GW for so many years she estimated she had prepared 20k of the tableside Ceasar salads... that’s a lot of Caesar’s folks and her attitude and the service was excellent! Originally this was my favorite birthday spot and now has become my wife’s as well so we make it at least twice a year.
My wife's crab cakes were not as we remembered and had a strange seasoning that hindered the crab taste. My turtle soup was a big disappointment and could not compare to the Ship Inn's. The staff was very attentive and cordial, but it may be time to look for a new chef, especially one who uses tried and true ingredients .
We have been to the Gen W Inn several time, always with a good experience, but this night was substandard. Both (there were two of us) main courses were over cooked. Two sides were cold. Waitress couldn’t pour my beer without spilling it (twice).
I told the waitress my wife’s meal was awful, very politely and only with the intent of helping them do better next time. In response she said, “yea I didn’t think it looked good when I brought it out.” Which begs the question, why did she bring it out or check on us sooner?
We came to the Gen W Inn, but had the experience of eating at a diner.
We had a very delicious meal! Everything was cooked perfectly as per our requests. Although there was a corkage fee, it was nice to be able to bring an older Burgundy from home for this special occasion! One of the highlights was a Caesar salad for 2 prepared table side by Celeste!
We like to patronize this gracious inn for the good food and charming settings. We hosted 60 people there for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner over a year ago.
This occasion was for a family birthday. We had a nice evening and enjoyed the meal but the service was slow at points -- apparently the waitress had more tables to handle than typical.
I felt bad leaving her a less than generous tip, especially as she seemed nice and worked hard. But I felt I could not considering that at several points in the meal we were left waiting for more than a few minutes with no explanation.
We really appreciated that "Happy Birthday" was written around the rim of the plate for the birthday guy. Lovely, low-key touch! (We had noted when making the reservation that it was a birthday occasion.)
As usual, the overall experience was excellent. Unfortunately, our server Maureen, was a bit
harried. We ordered a bottle of wine; she brought us two very small wine glasses which we requested to be exchanged for proper large red wine glasses. Her reaction was that she 'would do her best to find some". A bit latter she brought us the correct size glasses with no apology.
Food was terrific and except for the server issues, it was a good evening.
Not our first visit to General Warren, and definitely not our last. :-) As always, service was impeccable, food was fantastic (one caveat: The pastry dough for the beef Wellington was undercooked, at our table and the table next to us... the over was not hot enough, but the dish was still tasty).
After a half-dozen visits, it feels weird to write a full-on review. We've spent Valentine's Day here twice, we dine here whenever we're in the Malvern area, and we just love it. The new dessert offerings look tremendous! We had the praline cheesecake, which was wonderful, but we could've chosen all of them. And we don't normally eat dessert.
My wife and I got married on Friday the 13 th 22 years ago in October and speant our wedding night at the Inn. We decided that having dinner at the General Warren Inn on Friday the 13 th, 22 years later would be a great idea. And it was! The Manager welcomes us with a Happy Anniversary greeting, sat us at a tucked away corner table with view of the main dining room so we could enjoy the moment. The wine and drinks were perfect as was the table side Ceasar Salad for two and a Snapper Soup. Followed by main course of Duck breast in a reduction sauce and 100%. Crab cake which was Gluten Free for my wife. We complimented our meals with superb deserts of Praline CheeseCake which was Gluten Free also, and a tasty sponge cake. Desert aperitifs of a 12 Yr. Scotch and Grand Manier topped off a wonderful meal and evening.
Favorite place to enjoy a night alone or a night with good friends. No better place to enjoy the perfect meal than at the GW, especially in the tavern. Can't wait for a cold night, and a fire in the tavern with a good glass of wine in my hand and an excellent meal on the table.
Our meals were excellent. the ambiance and the structure itself were historic and authentic. Our server was very personable, polite and efficient. We enjoyed the experience we recommended it to anyone who spoke of eating out for the next 2 days we were in the area
This was my first time at this historic restaurant. Overall it was lovely but, for me, there were some downsides. We ate in the outdoor atrium which I thought faintly smelled like horse manure. A lot of their dishes are served with some form of goat cheese whether it's in a sauce or sprinkled on top and there are a few that don't. The waitress defended a drink that was ordered insisting it didn't contain vermouth when the bartender had poured it out after agreeing it did contain vermouth. My guests thoroughly enjoyed their meals which I was happy about. One is a goat cheese afficianado! The rack of lamb was excellent, the steak perfect as was the salmon. I would definitely go back but I would sit in the main dining room. You can't do much about an incorrectly made drink or an over abundance of goat cheese in my opinion! The meal prices were excellent as was the quality and delicious taste of the food we each ordered.
We wanted a high end restaurant to go to. For 41st wedding anniversary and The Warren Inn did not disappoint. It is a historic inn with lots of ambiance. The dining room was like dinng in the original home. It warm and inviting.
Can't say enough anout the food. Delicious!!! Our waitress was very nice. She made us babana's foster forus at oir table and it was delicious. You won't be didsapointed with this Inn.
