General Warren Ratings and Reviews
Went to dinner with three others and had an exceptionally long wait for food. The lobster arancini were just ok and the steak was a bit tough. One person got the short ribs and they were the winners at our table. The waitress gave us dessert on the house and said the chef was on his own that was why the kitchen was so slow. Unfortunately the food wasn't worth the wait. Maybe just an off night as I have had other memorable meals there.
Entrees and service were very good. Overall, it was very busy for Valentine's day. The bar was very crowded. We will try again and would expect slightly better results based on other reviews. We had later reservations, however we asked on arrival and were able to seat us a little earlier. On our next visit we'll request a table near one of the fire places. We parked in the first driveway coming from old lincoln highway and walked up a very slippery walkway. That was our first visit, and we were unaware they had valet parking. The back walkway due to recent snow and ince storms is not recommended, we almost fell several times. Other than that, very nice place, very good food and worth a second visit to try when less busy.
The entire evening was a delight. Top notch execution from the host, wait, bar and kitchen teams. Always feels like a special occasion when we dine at General Warren Inne. Personally went for the Dover Sole presented and served table side, while my business associates went with choice cuts of beef. Great dinner finished with a tawny port and just what the doctor ordered - a warm meal, in a warm and inviting restaurant on a cold winter night!
Mid-week business lunch with a friend who visits the area once a month. He met me at the GWI and was impressed from the jump. Great food, service and atmosphere. He said he plans to make it "his" place when he's in town each month to meet with clients. And why wouldn't he? On our recent visit we enjoyed a hearty seafood chowder to knock the cold off, followed by the special mahi mahi wrapped and baked in prosciutto. Delish. If you haven't been you need to go, if you haven't been in a while, you definitely need to go back!
Dinner for 11, including a baby & a 4 & 7 year old. Food was great - every one enjoyed their entree. Little boys behaved & didn't get in anyone's way at the restaurant. We had a little noisy song thing to commemorate the event & the other diners clapped & cheered. Management did a lot to let us have a special time.
We went for an intimate birthday celebration. We had a lovely evening enhanced by the delicious food and ambiance. The table side Caesar Salad was the best I've ever had. General Warren Inn is a neighborhood gem which I anticipate enjoying in the summer to experience the outside environs.
My wife and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary and the weather was changing for the worse, dropping 50° in a matter of hours.. It was also a Monday night. I went online and found that Open Table was very good about getting us a reservation. I had the Duck Duo, which was roasted duck breast and duck sausage. Very good. My wife had the braised short ribs, which were also very good. The wine list was extensive enough to satisfy and taste. I would recommend this very good restaurant
New Year's Eve dinner for two! My first time to this restaurant and it enticed me without anyone having recommeding it. The evening was very enjoyable from the beginning to the end. Being winter, We did not have time to enjoy the grounds and gardens but I think a spring revisit is in order. The menu, special for this occasion, was nicely varied to accomodate any taste and the portions were spot on as we both were able to finish our meal with just enough room left for a delicious desert. A little pricey but for special occasions the overall "package" is worth the price.
We've been choosing the General Warren for special times for 25 years. Last night's dinner, for no particular occasion, was perfect in every way: marvelous Beef Wellington, delicious crab cakes and two excellent appetizers--the "shuck of the day" (my 9-year-old son loved these--Shady Shore, Mass.) and the charcuterie platter. There were also a classic Manhattan and a pair of perfect martinis, plus sharable cheesecake. We were 45 minutes early for our reservation, but we were seated immediately anyway--in front of the lovely fireplace. It doesn't get any better than that, and the General Warren is always that great.
Saturday was my wife's birthday. When I made the Open Table reservation, I noted that it was my wife's birthday and asked to have some flowers on the table when we arrived. Sure enough there was a cute arrangement of flowers and my wife was pleasantly surprised (points for me!). The menu choices were extensive and we both selected the braised short rib. It was superb in a word. The service was outstanding as well. It was very noisy because the restaurant was packed on a Saturday. However, that did not attract from the overall experience. We are lucky to only live 20 minutes from this outstanding restaurant.
My lamb chop was very good; my dining partners weren't bowled over with their choices. I think they were expecting a little better given the price levels. Server was very experienced but on the cool side. Maybe this is a refreshing change from overly gushy service but the personal connection that one expects didn't really happen. But we enjoyed ourselves in the ambience of the inn's dining room with the fireplace going and live music coming in from a room in another part of the building.
The four people in my department from work agreed that the food was excellent, however, it was served tepid, not hot, which detracted from the potential enjoyment. As a frequent diner here, who recommended the GWI to my party, I was a bit embarrassed, having told everyone how good it was.
The free valet parking attendant greeted us promptly and with a hearty welcome... Handsome Clyde graciously arranged for a wonderful table near the fireplace... Ever vigilant Marissa provided expert service with her winning personality. But a great restaurant isn't just about the staff. The food was amazing. It's nice to know that there's a restaurant the can consistently provide delicious food that's beautifully presented by well trained servers in an understated elegant ambiance. We have dined here for years and appreciate it more every time we come back.
What better way to warm up then a stop at the General Warren Inne with old friends? A beautiful setting married with first class service was on tap for our recent visit on Friday evening. Table side Steak Au Poivre was phenomenal, as was the duck duo, the grouper and the Denver steak. Odd to mention it, but I've got to say ... the two side orders (brussell sprouts and wild mushrooms) were the perfect compliment for the table and dinner selections - amazing offerings at a modest price - perfect. Finished our night with some friendly banter at the bar and a great cordial. Quite simply another gem of a dining experience. The service at GWI is the best in the 'burbs.
