General Warren Ratings and Reviews
Wrote review for Trip Advisor, same applies here. The dining experience was positive, my disappointment was the portion of crab cake or serving 2 crab cakes because for the value of entree was underwhelming. I walked away hungry and that shouldn't happen at a fine restaurant.
At first we were seated on the front porch with a view of parking cars and the coat room. We asked to be moved and they happily obliged. The second seating was much more comfortable and appropriate for the prices we were paying. Food was good. Ambiance was old fashioned dining room style. Fire places were lit but I would not say it was anything to speak of. Our service was wonderful.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed our Valentine's Day dinner at GW. The atmosphere is cozy and historical. The beef wellington was so delicious - I can't wait to have a special occasion to eat there again. A little to pricey for us to make a very regular date for dinner.
Based on our past experience here, we felt let down since we always found the food was mostly outstanding. I had the beef Wellington with filet mignon and I found it tough. The broccoli was simply steamed, it cooled rapidly and was not special at all. My roasted potatoes were good, but not special. My wife had the lamb and said it was good, her pea puree and carrots were very good, as well as the sweet potato. The salad was very good. The dessert we chose was not special and the list for Valentines Day did not offer a true chocolate dessert.
The service and ambiance were outstanding and the noise level where we were seated was low.
We will try it again sometime and see if they or one of our menu choices had an off day.
For years I've wanted to dine at the General Warren Inn and my wife thought that it might be too stuffy! Much to her surprise, we have experienced a cozy and comfortable fine dining experience, delicious menu options and exceptional service. Experience the General Warren Inn for yourself, and don't hesitate to invite family and friends, for a most enjoyable evening out on the town.
We had a romantic Valentines (and wedding) Day dinner and it was a perfect ending to a perfect day! The wine choices were varied and eclectic. Our dinners, I had lamb and my bride had char, were both excellent. The General Warren is a tremendous place for a special occasion and wonderful food and drink!
My husband and I went here on Valentines Day.. The service was great however food was very disappointing. My husband ordered crab cake for $30.00 he received one small crab cake on a bed of chard and I got vegan dish which was ok but also small. Both dishes didnt even include a soup or salad for that price.. very disappointed with portion sizes..only went there because we had a gift certificate..next time better off going to bar having a few drinks and appetizers..
We had a fabulous time from drinks at the bar to dinner at a fireside table. The service from Valet, Hostess, Bartender to Server was impeccable, the ambience divine, and the food fabulous!!! We had the amazing snapper soup, shared an incredible duck flatbread, mouth-watering filet mignons and decadent dessert (no sharing there)- and everything was 5 star! So glad we chose the General Warren Inne to celebrate Valentine's Day!!
We have never left a bad review before but this time it is necessary.
The service was comparable to a local diner and they have better service. The water was slopped into our glasses with a great deal of splashing. The service was rushed and very unpleasant and not very informative about specific questions.
The fish special was over cooked and very dry....couldn't cut through the surface with a knife. The beef Wellington was raw for a medium rare order. The accompaniments were steamed vegetables with no seasonings at all.
It is a beautiful, historic establishment of which we had eaten there many times and many years ago with a delicious experience. This was not the case this time.
It was also a place that our daughter had been considering for her wedding but she has decided against it.
We're hoping this helps the restaurant because it is such a disappointment in knowing what it used to be like. Hopefully some day, in the near future, it will be that way again. It is truly a waste of a gorgeous building with beautiful grounds and ambiance.
We started with a Classic Caesar for Two & Artisanal Cheese Board. I had the Grilled North Atlantic Salmon & wifey had a Grilled 6oz Filet Mignon & Tom had Grilled Trout. , Gin & Tonic and red wine. All were top notch, Everything was Excellent. Service was great, G&T had a kick to it, and we enjoyed ourselves. Last time I was in the Inn, it had a pool table & bikers throughout. nice elegant Inn it is. Glad to see a grand Inn back to its grand style of yesteryear.. We will be back.
We were celebrating our Anniversary and I had made a reservation with a note stating the occasion. We were welcomed at the door by two warm and cordial people, coats were taken and we were escorted to a quiet table by the fireplace - which had a fire going. The food , wine and drinks were excellent and the service was wonderful. Glasses were kept filled, conversation with the staff was sincere and it was a very enjoyable anniversary experience. Even our dessert plates had a Happy Anniversary wish written on them - what a fun surprise!
It’s been years since we’ve dined here and didn't know what to expect. It was fabulous!! The table side Caesar salad was exceptional as was the table side Bananas Foster which was fun to watch. Our waiter Daniel did an awesome job with both! The salmon entree was melt in your mouth superb! And we appreciated that we could BYO for a corkage fee which was well worth it for us to bring something from our own cellar. We will definitely return!
Wonderful food! I took my husband there for his birthday!
When we made the reservation, it asked if it were a special occasion, and I checked yes. But the restaurant didn't really care one way or the other. The gentleman who seated us asked if it were a special occasion and we told him Yes, but that was the last we heard about it.
Food was wonderful!!! Service was ok. Waitress gave me an "old menu" so the salad I ordered was not on the menu. I was really in the mood for that beet salad, so I didn't want something else - she seemed annoyed. Then, I ordered a drink that was on the menu, and she sent the wrong drink. When I pointed it out to her - she dropped the menu on me and said, "here take a look." She took the "wrong" drink away - and then brought what I had ordered. She was a bit grumpy about the whole thing - instead of saying she was sorry - she made some off-handed comment about, "we have a lot of drinks with apple cider."
Other than that, we had a wonderful dinner.
Great place for a date night which was long over due for my wife and I. The bill was bit higher than I expected but not unreasonable. Food was good, we both had the rib eye and shared the cheese platter. Defiantly worth checking out if you have never been there before.
The service from Nancy in the back room was excellent. But the two gentlemen at the front of the house were bumbling idiots that seemed to think it's better to be arrogant than considerate. (Neither even established eye contact with me!)
We showed up with reservations, right behind a couple with no reservations. One of the men immediately took that couple and seated them. We waited and waited for this thoughtless man to return. During that wait, another man entered who asked if we had a reservation. I told him we did--and he disappeared for seven minutes. We waited more. (I was with m 92-year old mother.) Then, another man popped his head in and asked if we were ther for the lecture. I told him we were there for dinner.
Finally, we were seated in the room behind the bar. No one was in the room, yet we were seated at a table in the middle of the room. (So I moved us by the window--and the man who seated us seemed put out.)
Finally, you mention "craft" cocktails. The Manhattan I had was anything but craft. It was run of the mill--nothing special.
One other thing: As we were trying to leave, we had to traverse through the food line for those attending the lecture. The process was so convoluted and ill-conceived; why place the food line in an area where people were coming and going. Poor.
I'm sorry to say I will not return, and I will tell others not to have dinner at your establishment. And the two men at the front of the house should be fired. If not, please impress upon them they are in business for the customer. Arrogance has no place here.
While the General Warren Inn is beautiful and has historic ambiance, we were disappointed. Yes, the place is lovely, but the drafts on a cold evening ruined the ambiance for us, despite a roaring fire in the fireplace. The food was inconsistent. Some of our dishes were excellent - the Caesar salad made tableside among them. Others were big disappointments, such as their “signature” Beef Wellington. The beef, which should have been a premium filet, was tasteless. Our server was cheerful, helpful and attentive, however the bar got two of our four drinks wrong. Maybe this place is better for lunch or on a nice warm day, but we won’t be going again to find out.
My friend and I visited on a Friday night for dinner. Complementary valet service was very welcome as it was raining heavily. We arrived about 10 minutes and our table was ready. We were seated on an enclosed porch which was quite comfortable. My dining partner ordered salmon, I had the Beef Wellington. Both were perfectly prepared and arrived hot. We split the Caesar salad, which was prepared table side, and it was delicious. Service is friendly and paced to the diners. We both had carrot cake for dessert. The wine list is extensive. If you have a particular preference, check the wine list out in advance on the web. My friend will purchase a gift certificate for her daughter and son-in-law.
Six of us had NYE dinner at the General Warren Inne. It is such a cozy, winter venue with roaring fireplaces and intimate dining rooms. Unfortunately, the food was not up to their usual dinner standards. Four of the six entrees came out lukewarm. The filet and lobster were tough and unseasoned and the other entrees were just okay — uninspired.
A real negative was the two valets: they gave our limo driver the hardest time when he was both dropping us off and picking us up! There was not another car in the entire driveway (the restaurant was not even half full) yet they kept telling him to move! It almost came to fisticuffs!! I truly think that it was an ethnic issue as our driver is Egyptian. He has been driving us for years and is so polite, mild-mannered, and such a gentleman. The two valets were relentless and completely in the wrong. They wanted him to pick us up on the road and not in the driveway on a very cold night with ladies in heels and my husband using a cane. We will certainly think twice before choosing the General Warren for another evening out, and definitely not on a holiday. It’s a shame.
