General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    Had a celebratory dinner here last week with friends (a little treat for wrapping a big show). We had heard great things, and they were all absolutely true! We all had a shrimp cocktail to start, and it was so good one friend ordered a second one. The Bubbles and a Bump is perfection (please never take this off the menu, it’s whimsical and delicious)! The pastry on the pie was so beautiful it felt like a shame to eat (but it was devoured), the pork chop was perfectly cooked and so juicy - you get the idea. Excellent food. The service was attentive without being intrusive, the space is beautiful. Oh my god the fries - we also ordered seconds of the fries. Perfectly crispy and fluffy at the same time, with exactly the right hit of malt vinegar - I dream of these fries. Also the wine list is great - a great selection without being overwhelming, accessible price points or a little splurge if you’re feeling fancy. We had the nicest time, highly recommend!

    A Memorable Experience at General Public We recently dined at General Public and were thoroughly impressed. From the moment we arrived, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our overall experience. We started with the oysters and caviar bumps, both fresh and flavorful. The breakfast sandwich was a delightful surprise, combining classic elements with a gourmet twist. The fish and chips stood out, featuring perfectly crispy batter and tender fish. To conclude, we indulged in both desserts, each offering a satisfying end to our meal. The ambiance strikes a balance between upscale and inviting, making it suitable for various occasions. While the only minor hiccup was a slight delay in receiving our bill, it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. General Public offers a well-curated menu and a welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to returning and exploring more of what they have to offer.

    Everything about our experience was 10/10. Food was to die for. The cocktails were amazing. I’ve been meaning to visit general public for a while since I visit le swan pretty often. Jen you did such an amazing job with the design of the restaurant my jaw was on the floor when I walked in. Our server Alex was incredible as well. Definitely will be coming back here. Great job everybody !!

    Everything was delicious. We arrived early enough to get the burger which we all loved! Great bun!! The wings, the wedge salad (lovely display) the charred broccolini, the mushroom shnitzel and the fries - would def repeat. Desserts inc banana pie a great finish. Service was excellent and room warm and bustling.

    Beautiful design to the restaurant. Unique location. Delicious food with fantastic service. Food came out a tiny bit slow and was a little expensive but would still certainly return. Great selection on the menu. Very fresh oysters and jumbo shrimp. Extensive wine menu and great cocktail selection

    A pleasant surprise for dinner. Every dish was extremely tasty especially the burger and the cod dish. Wedge salad is a must. Service was excellent and friendly. A Bumping spot on Geary and we will definitely return.
