General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

    One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long while… maybe since we last went to a Jen Agg restaurant. Everything was perfect. The restaurant is gorgeous, of course… the food so delicious and the menu is such a delight. We loved the bubbles and a bump of caviar and the shotgun martini. Both such fun little items that made the dinner even more special. The service was next level amazing. Our sever and the sommelier were the perfect blend of helpful, friendly and not intrusive. 10/10 - no notes (other than love notes!)

    Good food and wonderful service but WAY TOO NOISY . Impossible to have a relaxed conversation. For that reason, regretfully, we wouldn’t go back and would recommend with a caution.

    The restaurant was already calling before our reservation time…we were just looking for parking which is hard to find in the area. After we finished our main meal they said we only had 20 minutes left, which would’ve been plenty for coffee and dessert, but once we felt rushed, we decided we were done and left. There was no advance warning about the time limit, plus the restaurant was half empty!

    Food is good and service is excellent. However it’s quite pricy, and 250$ for two later I was still hungry at the end of the meal. Not great value.
