What Insiders Are Saying
Gene & Georgetti is a classic Chicago steakhouse that's as old-school as they come.
The best filet mignon I've had in a very long time, perhaps, ever.
As always, Gene and Georgetti serves outstanding food with excellent service. I would absolutely recommend.
We came as a party of 8 and had two 90 year grandparents with us celebrating their granddaughters graduation from DePaul. Although we had to wait a bit due to needing a table on the floor, we had a good time at the bar and the grandparents had a place to sit. Once seated at the table, we had a minor emergency when my mother in law fell while being seated. Thankfully she was ok! Our waiter was wonderful - very relaxed and friendly and all food served along with wine, was delicious. Thanks for a fun evening, Gene and Georgette!
Gene and Georgetti’s had it all! Great food, great service and friendly staff. The stuffed mushrooms were excellent and had to start with Mama’s Meatballs. Freshly made along with the salad. Our stems were cooked to perfection and very tasty. The side of mashed potatoes are very good too! Last but not least the staff was very friendly and accommodating for my mother who moves slowly now days and made her feel like a Queen. Thank you Yanni! We had a great experience and recommend this restaurant to all.
As always, great service, great food, and great environment. Our family has been coming here since 1959 because they treat you like family.
Great Chicago institution. First time here, the filet was great medium rare. The Brussel Sprouts and Vesuvio potatoes also great. The salmon was tender and also very good.
Great food. Outstanding service!
Great place. We got great service and food. Will go back.
Amazing food and amazing service! It was a wonderful experience from the moment we sat down. I can’t say enough about the service. Our waiter was fantastic. Thank you for a lovely evening!
The food was amazing and the wait staff was superb, the price was right but if you want to go for a quiet romantic evening this may not be the place. Overall a great Chicago staple!
Have a drink and say high to Hugo he is the best
We were in town and celebrating four family birthdays. My wife and I had been here 27 year ago and wanted to share it with our son and daughter. Our son just moved to Chicago. The wait staff was great. It was a little disappointing to be seated for our 6PM dinner reservations at the first table when you walk in the door. This table for a party of three would be fine but due to the cramped quarters the wait staff had to lean over me every time they were delivering food, water/drinks or taking plates from the table. Unfortunately this may be experiencing a little less pleasurable. We are enjoyed our meal but the seating arrangement took some of the fun out of the experience. When you are going to drop $500 for a family dinner you would expect a little more. We could’ve asked to be moved but didn’t feel comfortable doing that.
Always excellent and always consistent. The Chicken Vesuvio is one of the best around! Will continue to return on a regular basis. Service is fantastic!
Waited too long for order to be taken, brought wrong food and took another 15-20 minutes to bring what I ordered. Spent $80 on lobster for wife and was cold by the time my food came. Table was almost shoulder to shoulder with the one next to ours and was the only two tables like that we can see.
Food and service was outstanding!
This place was packed! Very load and really crowded but that is what we expected from this landmark. We were told when in Chicago we had to go here.
The service was great, the waiter was attentive, nice, and quick with all our service needs.
The portions are large for the sides. We started by sharing a house salad that literally consisted of lettuce, one tomato and the ranch dressing. That was disappointing. I had the filet mignon and it was so seared on the outside that it was just burnt. I cut the outside off but the meat was just bland. My BF got the lamb shanks and he said they where to die for. We shared the meat raviolis which where delicious, the sauted brussel sprouts and some sauted mushrooms- which were both very yummy. We had the spumoni for dessert which was tasty too.
All in all I would go back, but I would get italian food which was exceptional and leave the steak to one of the traditional steak/chop houses in the city.
We will be back!
Loved Every Minute of Being There. Our Friends Bob & Fraida recommended G&G and we are from NYC. The food, energy , location and servers could not have been better. It's like a walk back in time . We will look forward to visiting again soon.
Had reservations, sat us by the kitchen and there was a gentleman walking around with a hand radio barking out directions to the staff. The waiter was not engaging and never stated his name when he greeted us. My cocktail was watered down, my steak, bone in filet, was cooked as requested, but lacked any real flavor. My wife ordered the seabass, which was a nicely cooked generous portion- lacking any real flavor. The highlights- broccoli, asparagus, horseradish and wine. Overall I was disappointed in the atmosphere, food quality and service. I expected more based on the name and price.
Great service, really cool ambiance. Food was ok, not outstanding. Good place to bring out of town guests as a nod to the old Chicago.
This was a restaurant that my husband had been to on pervious trips to Chicago on business . I enjoyed the food that is primarily Italian. We shared an antipasto and had lamb chop and veal chop. Both were delicious and perfectly cooked. The potato dish that id served on the side is generous and very good . The service is well done by staff with long experience . Go hungry!
Steak and pasta were disappointing, lamb chops are the way to go
Love this place!!
The food was excellent and the server was great. There since 1979.
Once again G & G hit the mark. Room was cold when we arrived. Staff immediate turned off AC making it much better. Then the perfect steak with a marvelous salad. The BEST!!!
it was like a dream returning to my favorite childhood restaurant, and the service and food was excellent.
Always perfection. Always delicious
The best steakhouse in the city of steaks!
the table was in a drafty area but the food and service made up for the table. nice and quite. super fun watching drunk middle age ladies in heels stumble to ladies room.
great steak. had 16oz loin.
Gene & Georgetti's has been very countable the last few times.
many good things to eat there (except cottage fries- could be a lot better, crispier)
looking forward to going back,
We went there on a recommendation and the food was delicious and we were in want of nothing. My only fault with dining was that we were upstairs in a small room. My party of two was near the kitchen. As the room filled up, it was not energetic, it was just noisy and it got less intimate and seemed like we were dining with everyone. I would go back, and that is how I judge how good the restaurant is. I would be more selective on table placement.
Food was great service was wonderful. Got a reservation at the last minute and table was ready for us.
My all time favorite in Chicago. Steak, Pasta and Wedge Salad are the best.
Great Italian Steakhouse. Lots of old school Chicago charm.
Great place to eat
Great atmosphere, food is consistently good and waiter was fantastic!
Best steak I’ve had in a long time cooked to perfection
Loved the whole evening!
Except for the rude comment from a customer who loudly ignorantly asked me loudly "looks like you got all dressed up to go to dinner"
I happened to be wearing a pair of golf shorts and polo shirt.
I was not aware of a dress code but after surveying the other patrons, I certainly wasn't underdressed.
Other than that, very nice time.
Lives up to the legendary tales.
