What Insiders Are Saying
Gene & Georgetti is a classic Chicago steakhouse that's as old-school as they come.
This is the best steakhouse in CHICAGO. True old school quality! The best rib steak, lamb chops and on the weekends only PRIME RIB. You cannot go wrong with G&G. We always sit with JJ and Juan. These two brothers are the best waiters in the city! I have Been dining here since 1983!
Great! Food was outstanding, service impeccable, good time highly recommend.
It was awesome.
We dined at Gene & Georgetti’s on Friday to celebrate my grandmother’s 79th birthday. We had wanted to eat here for years and it just so happened to work out this time we were in town — well, it was definitely worth the wait. Our waitstaff was wonderful, especially our server Tony, who helped us celebrate this very special lady. I had the prime rib which was very excellent, but I wished I had ordered it rare instead of medium rare. We also ordered a lasagna which was out of this world delicious - this is coming from someone who lives in New York City with Italian restaurants on every corner. You will not be disappointed!
Very nice wait staff but the food was terrible and the wait staff needed a bit more training on taking drink orders. Would not return.
The food is outstanding. The service is professional and friendly. We eat here whenever we visit Chicago. This is old school dining.
Had 6:30 p.m. reservations; was seated immediately.
All four dinners were excellent, two steak, one chicken parmigiana, and one scallops. We chose a bottle of Zinfandel. Spinach and potatoes for the table come with the entrees.
Everything was delicious.
Service was excellent.
Pricey but your in the city at an old classic established restaurant; plus two bottles of wine never kept a bill low :)
Birthday dinner... all was good.
The food was outstanding. And the ambiance is exquisite. This place is everything you could possibly hope for in an old-school classic Chicago steakhouse!
We were very disappointed in the tomahawk steak special for $115. There were 4 of us and decided to share it. We had been there before and the portions were huge. It was a 32 oz steak. When it came, there was barely enough meat for two. The waiter should have told us that they weren’t big enough to share but at $115 who would have thought it. The quality of the shrimp cocktail was very good. The more I think about that steak the angrier I get and now won’t go back.
Good food and excellent service, our server Juan was very friendly and attentive.
Family vacation in Chicago. Had to share on e of my favorite places. You didn’t disappoint.
This was our first time. We had a big group. My steak came out raw. My friends steak cane out burned and well done. When his second steak cane out it was raw as well. The tab was 400.00 not included gratuity. The service was fantastic our waiter was great. It wasn’t his fault the food was below par.
This restaurant is a Chicago legend. It lives up well to that reputation. It’s pricey but worth it. Our server, Antonio, was great!
ALWAYS love coming here when in town... Great place to take friends and family
Dinner with my Chiildren
We had a great dinner. We went for the steak but the pasta was also terriffic
Such a great "hidden gem". If you didn't know about it you wouldn't stumble into it.
Great service, food and cozy environment.
The food was way overpriced and not great. The waiters were rude with zero personality.
Would never recommend this place to anyone
Epic filet mignon for a good price, lots of food, killer house wine. Supercool old school steak house with great service and awesome food for a good value.
The chicken ala Joe is our absolute favorite! Everything is always great and the service is the best anywhere
The steak cuts were thinner than you would expect from a premium steakhouse. Out of 8 people in our party 6 steaks were over cooked.
It was my 9th Anniversary and my wife wanted to go to a Chicago-style steakhouse (she's from Nebraska so she loves beef!) but told me to pick. I'm so glad I picked G&G!
A true Chicago classic from top to bottom. Slightly goofy old-style atmosphere but that only adds to the fun of this "original" steakhouse. One always expects to sit next to a table of "Goodfellas" and they opposite major Chicago politicians.
The service was impeccable; alert and on hand but never obtrusive. It was the steaks that sealed the deal. True perfection from temperature to texture.
Cheap? Hardly. But I've been to more costly steakhouses and gotten much less value for money.
Do I have a criticism? Yes. One. I do remember G&G having a dress code and they publish "business casual" on their site, but it's not enforced. Too many people in shorts and jeans for my taste.
I hadn't been to G&G in a good 15 years... but I'm thrilled to have gone back and we have every intention of returning, often.
Why are their children in this place in t shirts and parents in sweat pants?
Carlos was fantastic!
Came here for a celebratory dinner with my family. Everyone had a great time. The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice and attentive. Half of us ordered steak and the other half ordered pasta. Everyone was pleased with their food and had a TON of leftovers. Highly recommend!!
Family from Italy, Berlin and Boston converged in Chicago. I was in charge of Saturday night dinner and you guys were the best all around experience. La Familia found it perfectly fitting. Thank you.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. No complaints whatsoever!
CHARMING nostalgic dinner.......delish steak! Sweet experience and lovely staff.
The steaks are 45 day dry aged and that alone is worth the visit. It is truly a family run business and that is rare in today's restaurant world. A delicious dining experience in an old neighborhood in Chicago. Also, having ate at their other location in Rosemont near the O'Hare airport both are comparable in value and attention to detail with regards to service.
We loved this place! Service was excellent and entertaining! Small restaurant-much better than a chain!
It was a great experience. The food was delicious and the service outstanding.
Why did Open table send me a message did not qualify for points?
The service was attentive and the place was full of old world charm. Our party had a rib-eye, lamb and pasta—they were all delicious and the portions were more than generous!
My husband and I were visiting Chicago and were looking forward to eating at this iconic spot. The waitstaff were lovely, but when we sent our lamb back to cook a little more, the cooks were apparently peeved: it came back to the table charred and almost inedible. To put this in context, we ordered medium rare and it came to us almost raw. Perhaps I needed to say "warm pink center." When it was returned to our table the outside was burned to a crisp and the inside still raw. I know enough about cooking meat that this was an f-you move. For what we spent the cooks should have been more accommodating. I would not recommend this restaurant. Bravo to the waitstaff, however!
Great food and service
Prompt and attentive service. Large portions.
Gene and Georgetti's is a staple in the Chicago area! Always good food and great service.
My father loved your linguine and clams dish. Thank you!
