A wonderful evening in an iconic place. Juan and Javier took excellent care of us. We live in New Mexico and try to come to Chicago when possible and have been coming to eat at Gene and Georgetti’s for 24 years. It is a treat each time!
This Chicago staple survives for great service, cozy atmosphere and delicious food. From steaks to salads and seafood and fish, they did it all great for our large group of 9. We'll be back.
I went to Gene and Georgetti for the first time over the weekend of March 17th and was disappointed in my experience. I had heard that it was a classic restaurant and I enjoy restaurants that may have more history than the average restaurant but was really let down! We went at 5:30pm on a Saturday night and didn't expect it to be busy, which is wasn't. When we sat down, we were greeted quickly and asked if we wanted anything to drink and immediately placed our order but were given the wrong drinks when they arrived. No big deal on that. We ordered some salads and steaks and I asked for the salads to come out with the steak entrees -- they came out separately. Salads were mediocre tasting and the steaks didn't have much taste or seasoning on them which was a let down. Service was really slow and surprisingly slow when we were one of a few tables on the floor. You are better off going to a different restaurant in the area to pay that kind of price.
I discovered Gene and Georgetti's by watching a show on either Food Network or Travel Channel; it highlighted the Shrimp de Jonghe and I was intrigued. My husband and I visited my brother and his wife in Chicago over St. Patrick's Day weekend, which is right around my birthday. I said I wanted to try the Shrimp de Jonghe as my birthday dinner and the group agreed to a late lunch reservation. The meal was delicious. The service was fantastic. The portions were large and high quality. I highly recommend this place and the Shrimp de Jonghe! Thanks Gene and Georgetti's for such a special meal.
A classic old school Chicago steakhouse with excellent service, I have to say the lamb chops were unbelievably good, and so was the fillet mignon. We had an excellent pinot noir from Willamette valley, and a wonderful evening.
Old world atmosphere. Great steaks. Definitely good to have reservations.
My wife and I went for dinner during our St. Patrick’s Day trip to Chicago. Omg the food was AMAZING. My wife had the Chicken Parmesan and I had the filet. Food was cooked perfectly. Service was great. To top it off we had a conoli which was fantastic. What a great place to dine!!! Can’t miss place to eat.
One of our fave raves for years. Always wonderful and very special!
Clam chowder and Steak best baked potato ever
Stunning, old school Chicago Steakhouse. A must do when in Chicago!
A pleasant evening with good food. Quite expensive.
Best spot in the city!
My second time hear in many years. I loved it the first time and made a point to come back while in town. The steak is one of the best I’ve had. Pasta was great. Drinks are large and the service is incredible. Be careful, the side portions are huge. Get the gelato and spumoni. It’s worth saving room.
Great old school restaurant with alot of character. We were seated in Mob booth and heard alot of great stories from the waiter so made for a great night. They also have Caymus wine by the glass which is a must have!!
Delicious, large portions of food. Great staff and authentic atmosphere.
Was a great spot for a delicious steak with friends!
Old school cool with old school, meaning great, service. Best lamb chops I’ve ever eaten. Come hungry because the portions are huge! If it was good enough for Frank Sinatra it’s good enough for you.
Our reservations were for 8:30. When we arrived he said maybe 10-15mn. At 9:15 he tried to seat us in the very front area. Three women in an overpacked bar attempting to have a delightful dinner no thanks. Waited an additional 20minutes to be seated upstairs.
Waiter Miguel was great when he had the opportunity to greet us 15mn after being seated. Ordered calamari that arrived over cooked and lacking flavor.
The meal was average. Not our favorite place to be to catch up and manga on Italian food. Disappointed.
Everything from the staff to the food was superb!
As always, G&G didn't disappoint. We went to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic meal. The fried calamari appetizer was not only excellent, but too big for even the two of us to finish without ruining our appetite for what was to come. We shared a chicken vesuvio and a mid-size filet. The chicken was fantastic and the steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) with a great sear. The restaurant treated us to a great bday dessert. G&G will always be one of our favorite go-to spots for special events and whenever we just want to know with certainty that we'll get a great meal.
The food was overpriced and blan. Three of my family members order the same thing, no where is there any indication that this was a family-style portion. When the food came out the waiter joked and said “is this enough pasta” I wish he would have said this was family style before we order the three huge plates. Would never go back!
This place was recommended by almost everybody we asked. Many of the steak places in Chicago have outrageous prices, we're talking anywhere from $50-$99 for a filet with no sides. G&G's steak menu tops out at around $45. The $33 filet mignon was phenomenal and comes with soup/salad and potatoes. Besides being one of the oldest restaurants in Chicago, this place has some serious food. Make a reservation or prepare to wait. The staff is top notch, overly friendly and treat you like family. Their wine list is also great, they have a variety of Gene and Georgetti's signature wines for $10 a glass, and the pour is more than generous.
Great old school place to eat. Great menu. Good wait staff. A must if visiting Chicago!
Not bad just a tad overpriced. Angelo could seat people who have reservations a little quicker.
This is a classic steakhouse that has lots of history. Food was amazing and the service was 4 star.
Thought the food and the atmosphere were great. Having valet parking was a plus.
It was great as always! Our server Jose was very attentive and gave us anniversary dessert. So he studied our reservation notes which gives an extra thumbs up.
I will dream about my dinner until I can go back again, it was THAT good!!!! In all honesty, VERY few restaurants leave me feeling this way; as there are always soooo many other places to try in cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, NYC, etc, that it has to offer something really special for me to want to return; and this is one of those rare gems. The ONLY drawback was it was hard to hear conversation but, that’s to be expected in almost every restaurant nowadays (and it doesn’t help that I’m moving into that, ‘middle-age-hate-to-admit-my-hearing-isn’t-nearly-what-it-used-to-be-phase ‘!). As far as the food we ordered that was OUTSTANDING in every way possible: a HUGE Lamb chop, the daily filet special with split-broiled garlic shrimp, a la carte sautéed mushrooms and spinach (our waiter was SO helpful, and suggested/offered to do half-portions if these, and we STILL didn’t finish them!) and, of course, their famous fried potatoes (just like my grandpa used to make-ahhhh....). I have no doubt anything ordered would be wonderful (especially when served by some of the most professional, warm, knowledgeable, friendly waitstaff I’ve EVER encountered!). The bonus to this place is, of course, is the history of it (If you’re into that kind of thing-which I am); and I found myself wishing the staff weren’t so busy, as I would have LOVED to have them tell stories about what its been like to work here over the years...Bottom line: do NOT skip this place just because it isn’t new and hip, or you will miss out on a restaurant that should be the GOLD STANDARD for any new place coming on the scene!
Took my wife for our 1year anniversary and the food and service was great! The staff was very fast and Knowledgeable . Definitely recommend this place
G&G came highly recommended. Exceptionally attentive service even though our dining room was full. The fried potatoes just tasted fried, nothing special and my steak tasted only of the outer char. Stick with the Italian selections. The pasta and meatballs was huge and flavorful. We shared the thick-cut bacon (Ok) and the sausage and peppers (excellent) appetizers, again, huge portions. I would definitely return.
G&G delivers once again. One of my favorite dinner spots for friends, clients and business associates when in Chicago. Service is always great and the food terrific. Antonio kept the table engaged and the rest of the staff was always there for one of the people in my party of 8 when they needed something. I can’t wait to go back.
Always a great experience.... ambience is old Chicago, food is excellent, and portions are large. A+
Great time. Wonderful waiter and service. We all enjoyed our meals-lasagna, fish and steaks!
Can't get better than G&G for real down home Chicago ambience and steak. Fish is great too - white fish was enormous! All include some veggies or potato but order more bc they're so yummy! Good wine list and decent ambience even upstairs.
Gene & Georgetti always delivers. From the greeting through the meal, G & G honors its history as Chicago's oldest steakhouse with every meal. Great drink, a deep wine list, every dinner entree accompanied by a side salad and crisp fried potatoes, fabulous prime, aged steaks done perfectly, or wonderful double-cut lamb chops, to the amazing Chicken Joe -- all served by a top-notch group of servers. G &G is at the top of its game.
Love Gene & Georgetti. Have to dine there whenever we are in Chicago. Classic, old school dining. Excellent food and cocktails. Excellent wait staff. Always a delightful experience.
I would not recommend this restaurant. It was very over priced and the food had no seasoning (no exaggeration on the steak) or was just bland. Very disappointing. The spinach tasted frozen straight from the bag with a tad of garlic salt.
Excellent venue for any occasion! Service and Food always first rate!
