Gene and Georgetti Ratings and Reviews
The food was absolutely delicious and you get a large amount for the price compared to some other places with tiny plates! Wait staff were so sweet and helpful and wine pours are generous too! Very awesome place and can’t wait to get back to a Chicago to go back!!!
Being the oldest steakhouse in Chicago, I was really excited to eat there. Perhaps it's because we went on a Saturday afternoon but I just wasn't impressed. Ambiance was simple enough. Dining room felt cold from the cold temperature outside, you'd think a steakhouse that had been around for as long as they have could have afforded to turn the heat on a little more. Food was okay, the steaks were cooked to perfection which basically was the saving point there. But typically at a steakhouse, you're not having to pour your own wine, feel like you have to wear your coat, and also when our plates were cleared there was no asking if we wanted the side dishes boxed up, they just simply took them and did who knows what with them. Also, it seemed as if you were a "regular" then you were given the utmost attention and service, but just a new comer not so much. The added downer was that we were celebrating a birthday in the group and though noted nothing was done for it. I'd go again for the steaks but that's basically about it. I guess I expected more attentive service or a wow factor for a slow Saturday lunch but I guess I was asking for too much.
First time there, it was super crowded and that’s okay. Sat down and the waiter was already super rushed, cut some of my guests and myself in mid order. Waiter just seemed annoyed with my party of 10. We weren’t obnoxious in fact we were very patient Bc we felt bad for the waiter in such a busy night, we all just noticed he was rushed with only our table but with the rest of the other tables he was charming. Don’t know why that happened. My food came in super dry and a bit over cooked. I had the chicken Marsala and my fiancée had the fillet mignon. It was okay. Over all, the prices were ok for what it was. Next time I will celebrate my bday someplace where the atmosphere isn’t so rushed
It's apparent from the moment we walked in that the place is steeped in tradition. It's like stepping back in time in many ways. We noted that none of the employees we saw were women. If they were there, they weren't visible. We also noted that there was nothing special about the food, certainly nothing to justify the $24 for ravioli or $40 for a steak. This is our last night in Chicago and we wish we'd doesn't it elsewhere.
Excellent steaks, sides and deserts. Very nice atmosphere for adult dining. This visit there were no noisy children to contend with as has occurred in previous visit. We appreciated that we were not rushed, possibly because we asked for time to have our cocktails over appetizers before ordering entrée. Waiters were very attentive but not annoying. We come every winter and will continue.
Our only complaint was very weak overpriced cocktails. At best,a $6 drink.
Gene & Georgetti is at the top of its game -- a great Italian steakhouse and a Chicago original. The drink is strong. From great apps (there's no better shrimp cocktail anywhere), the salads (Garbage salad tops the list, the side salad included), the steaks done to perfect temperature, the fired potatoes (included), perfectly fried onion rings among a long list perfect sides and some great originals (try the Chicken Joe), followed by desserts, none better than the New York Cheesecake (but try the cannoli). Service is both friendly and professional. G & G is a perennial favorite as other steakhouses try to measure up
Poor food quality (meat especially), very short wine list, and an ambiance that looked much more as a family small owned business rather than a renomated restaurant.
I really cannot believe that this place is rated one of the two best restaurants in Chicago, only prices are expensive as if it was...
Had reservations and waited 30 mins for table in a horribly crowded bar that was too small for comfort! Service was mediocre at best. For the prices they charge the service should have been paramount and it wasn’t. Food was good but nothing to rave about. Facility is worn and tired looking and one in our party caught his new pants on a sticking out nail in doorway. Tables are way too tight and if you are spending steakhouse prices on a dinner - find another steakhouse as Chicago has much better.
