We had OpenTable reservations for 8:15 PM but our plans changed so we wanted to go at 6:45. We called the restaurant and they gladly accommodated us. We loved the ambiance of G&G’s! We would return but would order different items. We loved the bread and butter they brought to our table before our meal.
Great service!
We ordered:
Stuffed mushrooms- these were just okay, we have had better
Salads- fresh and delicious
Filet - delicious but not cooked the way we wanted
Prime rib- a huge portion, and delicious but a lot of fat and gristle, not enough actual meat
Fried potatoes- sliced too thin and we didn’t care for the taste of these. We would rather have had a baked potato but they wouldn’t let us substitute.
Spaghetti with meat sauce- bland and salty.
Cannoli for dessert- delicious!

Brought out-of-towners who were interested in steak AND Italian. They absolutely loved it.

How disappointing. Despite having made a reservation, and waiting patiently at the front desk, the woman was too busy looking at her Mobile phone to realize someone was waiting to be seated.

I ordered a steak. I'd been told the restaurant was good for steak. It was expensive on the menu, but I supposed it would be worth it. And ordered Medium Rare

It was cooked terribly. Burnt on the outside. I don't mean charred and sealed like a good steak. I mean burnt. And the centre was completely raw. The protein hadn't fused to Medium Rare. It was clear it had been blasted with heat and not cooked properly.

The salad was cheap ingredients. And with an appalling dressing. It made Kraft or Paul Newman's Own seem positively authentic. It was not freshly made but clearly bought by the barrel

The same goes with the desert. Expensive on the menu. And clearly not freshly made. Honestly, Jewel Osco made deserts were of a better quality.

I've given the restaurant 3 x goes. All hoping that, may be, I'd hit it on an off-day. Clearly not. They charge the earth. Then use the cheapest ingredients. And cook them terribly.

May be they think Tourists, whom I suppose are their main trade, will not notice? Who knows. But, nope, I will never go back again. And will never recommend the restaurant to clients, colleagues or friends.

Took friends from out of town and had a nice experience. I, however, asked for my steak medallions to be cooked medium and they came out at least medium rare if not rare. Took quite a bit of time to get them redone after I sent them back. But still, all in all, it was a very nice dinner and our friends enjoyed it. It was our first time at this restaurant.

I generally try to get to Gene and Georgetti's at least once a year. The neighborhood feel of this establishment makes it an effective alternative to very high priced, trendy, nouveau cuisine places. The restaurant and food are old school Italian.
On my most recent visit I had an outstanding minestrone and steak. The service was friendly and very efficient. The waitstaff acts as a great team.
Their linguine with clam sauce is killer. Have never had a bad meal there.

G&G never disappoints. I've been coming for over 20 years, always a stop when in town. The menu covers plenty of classic options, but you come for the steak. Best filet I've ever had and the sides are perfect.

Wow what an amazing meal from veal parmigiana to the New York. But how do you they have good food? Order the meatballs and cannoli! For sides recommend the broccoli and mushrooms.

All of the food was amazing. Go for the broiled scallops.
I wouldn't recommend the "gelato," though - pretty sure it was just regular vanilla ice cream. at least they give you a lot of it.

Food was fresh and cooked to perfection. From the scallop appetizer to the creamed spinach and perfectly prepared filet. Black crust on the steak without any taste of being burnt or charred. I don't know how they do that but I was pleased and amazed. Highly recommended.

G and G has delicious food and friendly, attentive service. Grilled calamari and chocolate martini are just 2 suggested ways to start your meal. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere to enjoy conversation with your friends over dinner. You won't be disappointed by this authentic restaurant!

Gene and Georgetti's never fails to please. We like to say it is a perfect example of a Chicago style Italian Steak House. Lively, but not overbearing. Service is always impeccable (efficient but not rushed), and food is outstanding. Whether you are in the mood for great pasta, veal, or a good steak, you will not be disappointed. Be sure to make reservations for dinner, but you can usually get in for lunch without a problem. Same great menu and service. We will look forward to our next visit.

The service all-around was excellent, I put on my open table reservation that it was my daughters birthday, they brought out a dessert and sang to her without any reminders, I really appreciated that!! The garbage salad and clam chowder were delicious, I could have eaten just that and been super happy. The steaks are charred, they are cooked well but not everyone likes charred, so FYI. My only real criticism was the mushroom side. They were canned and not much was done with them. I was disappointed with that. But overall, a good experience.

While this is a famous spot in Chicago and I can appreciate the effort in maintaining the feel of the original restaurant, this restaurant needs a makeover. The carpet is dingy and stained, and the feel is depressing and old. The food and service was excellent, but I would not go back simply based on the old and unimpressive state of the decor.

Angelo the Maitre D’ greeted us upon our arrival and asked how we liked our table to which we said, great. He then said he would reserve it for us from now on when we visit. Our waiter Orfeus then picked where Angelo left off and was very helpful and attentive. My wife and I split the 20oz bone in ribeye steak cooked to perfection! I particularly liked the rye bread sticks. G&G is the best old school steakhouse in Chicago.

AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING. The best meal we had during our weeks stay in Chicago. May we highly recommend the 20 oz ribeye and the 24 oz porterhouse. The ambiance and old Italian feel made the meal even better. Our server was Juan and from the minute we arrived until we left he took care of us and we felt we were his only clients. The entire time there was over the top because of Juan!! Can't wait to go back!!
