Gemma - The Bowery Hotel
We were a very challenging group of guests. With one impatient and very hungry toddler and 1 infant we were hopping up and down, playing musical chairs for most of the meal. How our waiter kept his cool I really don't know. Thanks so much for making us feel welcome and allowing our extended family to have a marvelous and almost civilized dining experience.
We will return!
Wait staff were rude, and food was too salty. Overall a very unpleasant experience and would not ever go back
very nice place
I am Italian and for me the food was very good.
Next time I will go again.
You have to go.
The manager, Nicola, was great! We loved our experience there and love the delicious food!
Really great experience. Food was very good......atmosphere was lovely....we were at a back round table and it could not have been more conducive to wonderful conversation and fun times. Service was fine. No complaints.
Worst food and service I've had in NYC in 15 years - easily. I was just there in April and it was great. No idea what happened but I will never be back.
Food not as good as it used to be much smaller menu
Atmosphere and interior decor were really beautiful and romantic. Good wine selection. Food options are expensive for the quality (it's good, but not $20+ good) and the variety is limited, especially for vegetarians (no options with vegetarian protein). Wish they had more pasta options!
poor service and poor food. This restaurant has gone down from years ago. Cocktails were not strong enough, it's like they used 1/2 of what they should of. Appetizer with the tuna should have been sent back. just bad
Food was outstanding
The staff was wonderful
Waiters are superb too
I LOVE this restaurant BUT won't sit outside again. Too many distractions!
Extremely rude waitress
The hostess is just dreadful. We stopped by for cocktails appetizers and desert and the hostess had the nerve to tell us unless we were ordered dinner to we couldn’t sit outside even though almost every table was empty. We left stepped outside booked a table with open table then went back inside. Furious she was forced to sit us outside. She stared at us the entire time giving us dirty looks all through dinner. $180.00 later we left. What a horrible miserable person just chasing patrons and money away from this establishment. It’s people like this who put a place out business.
This used to be one of my favorite spots. Now there is a new chef. Menu has changed and the old staples don’t taste as good. Took away the polenta fries and ruined the focaccia. Such a bummer. Antonio is the only good bartender there. If he leaves, I’ll have no reason to ever go back here.
Food was very bad
Excellent Brunch - original and tasty. However, lack of fresh orange juice missed perfection.
We were around 12 of us - vibe was great, food was good. Service not so much. Waiters were quite rude even though we ordered more than enough for the table.
Horrible Service, the host and waiter had such rude attitude like there better than us and or like whatever do you want to order or not.
I've been to Gemma few twice before but this was the worst experience in dinning I had in nyc in a while, the worst part of It all I had guess visiting from London and Italy and they were sooo shocked how bad this place was, made me look bad thanks!
Hope others have a better experience but I am never going back! Go to scarpetta!
Wonderful caprese salad and pizza. Great wine line list and ambience. Highly recommend!
One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in my life. Took my little sister for her birthday. I ordered a drink at the end of our food order. Server barked that everyone else needs to show their id's as well. Informed him that no one else had even ordered a drink yet or planned to.
Food took absolutely forever. Ordered a second drink, never came. When I inquired, server informed that it was getting made that moment. There was no one behind the bar....
Then went and congregated with 4 other servers at the bar. Carried the drink to the table from the TOP of the cup. Disgusting.
Food finally came out after a good 45 minutes. By the way, restaurant was empty...and zero music or ambiance. Pizzas were COMPLETELY cold. Sent it back along with the pastas.
Still got charged for dishes we sent back.
Some of the worst service I have ever experienced.
I don't usually eat at tourist driven restaurants with food that matches, but I was hoping for a way better experience than this. You don't go here for the food at all....note taken.
Limited lunch menu. Not very attentive service.
Server was not attentive and kitchen was uncomfortably slow
We live in South Florida, but every time we come to New York we make it a point to dine at Gemma. It's one of our "go to" spots to eat in Manhattan!!!
My roommate and I had a wonderful first experience at Gemma. We had the Truffled Polenta Fries to start - they were absolutely incredible. I had the Penne Arrabbiata and my roomie had the Gnocchi di Zucca and both were divine. We ate outside to enjoy the beautiful weather, and our server was an absolute delight ~ very attentive and even gave menu/wine suggestions. Thank you for the amazing lunch, Gemma & family. :)
Recommendable but don't expect the best food experience - it's fine but not exceptional. Ambience is perhaps better than the food.
Love the banana bread that comes with brunch - it is delicious!
Great evening at Gemma, great food , fab service and we all had the best evening . Thanks all
The salads and pizza were terrific. Fresh and well seasoned. The only exception was the watercress, fennel, citrus salad which had so taste... it didn't even seem like there was dressing on it and was a huge disappointment. The burrata architchoke dish as excellent as was the roasted cauliflower. Would go again but will just skip the fennel, watercress citrus salad.
Family dinner for 5. Interesting interior design, cocktails prompt, and service excellent. Food was delicious. B
Service was not what was experienced in the past. Lengthy time getting appetizer to table. Food came out wrong, and check incorrect.
The restaurant was extremely hot. We asked if a window or door could be opened & they said no. We were seated in the elevated space in the corner. No circulation of air.. Several people in our party had to go outside to cool down several times during the meal.
Everything was great. We were a group of 6 except one meal only came out when we were all already finished :(
Nice meal but immediately seated right next to a couple in a corner of the large room. (Even though room was almost empty, as we ate early due to later plans) I thought that was strange and that the server had to keep squeezing in between me and the couple to serve them, and clear . Then when I asked the server if they had Guinness I was curtly told, “this is an Italian restaurant” however when he mentioned they had Moretti and Stellla, I could not resist informing him that Stella is a Belgian beer. Ha ha. All in all a delicious meal, which made up for these shortcomings.
My birthday breakfast with my family.
Vlees van mijn zoon was aangebrand .
The brunch place is absolutely gorgeous - but food wise they are honestly lacking. There are so many brunch places that serve really delicious food for the same price, and similar aesthetic. It would be hard for me to come back simply because the food was very average. The french toast was dry, and so were the apple chicken sausages. The brussel sprouts were overly oily. My own dish was so subpar - the soft eggs were overcooked and the bread tasted old and dry. It looks popular enough to survive, but I suspect that for actual New Yorkers to come back consistently and not tourists...something like that would be unbelievable.
The staff at Gemma are wonderful. Nikola the manager is the best in the game. He is kind, accommodating and made the whole experience something to remember.
Setting is stunning. Food just okay.
