We had such a great time! The food was wonderful & our server (Desirae) was fabulous. The restaurant itself is small enough that it feels very personal and it is wonderfully decorated as well. There is an extensive wine list & the cocktails were great. We can’t wait to go back!

This was my third time to Gemma. I find the menu difficult to find something to my liking. My friend felt the same way. With that said everyone I know who has been to Gemma loves it and highly recommends it.

The service was wonderful, the waitress provided a shall for me because she could not manage the air. The scone/biscuits provided before our meal were also warm and delightful. The corner table was a bit awkward into other people's tables; but overall it was a great meal and experience at a new restaurant for a rainy Saturday.
Will be recommending this place & returning soon!

Disclaimer: we just moved to downtown and have been looking forward to go to Gemma's for a few weeks now. This was finally our first time there and it was for their "famous" reverse happy hour. I can't speak for the rest of the menu so maybe there's that.

The bad: considering that we were there for maybe 30 minutes at 11pm on a Sat, we were looking for 3 things: a nice ambience, good oysters and good cocktails. The cocktails were Ok, like any place in town, nothing special. The oysters on the other hand were without a doubt the biggest joke that I've had at a restaurant in my life. These would not be worth the money if they were giving them away for free. All 12 of them were just a piece of skin on a shell and that's it. And not only ours, but we looked and every single one on every table were similar excuses of oysters. How do we know? Because the ambience sucks too. My wife, which was seated on the other side of a 2 seat table was further away from me than the people from the 2 tables to my right and left. Spirit Airlines should take notes from this restaurant as to how to scientifically cram more seats in a small space and make it as uncomfortable as possible for patrons to have a conversation. And yes, I could easily tell you about the divorce problems of the lady on my left and the alcohol fueled parties of the SMU girl on my right in addition to the size of the oysters on their table. No thank you (although to be fair, the entertainment these ladies provided is the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1, but you can listen to someone else's conversation for only so long before it gets really awkward).

The good: they're a restaurant. They serve food. Maybe their real food is actually good. We may actually give their dinner menu one last chance at some point but knowing what we know now, we are definitely no longer looking forward to it or willing to drive even 5 minutes out of our way to go to Gemma's.

Food was not good at all. We both felt ill after. Do not order the charred cauliflower ($12) as it was bland and tasted boiled. the fried olives ($8) and pecans were interesting but not very good. If you're going to charge these prices the food has to be epic. the egg noodle dish was not what was described. it was egg and noodles seperate. pork chop was excellent however the kale was the worst we had ever tasted. wouldn't go back if u paid me. dont understand the hype. the service ran so long they brought us a 2nd bowl of the olives and pecans ($8). then she said she took one of them off the bill for us... even though we are neither bowl. they brought the first one out for celebrating a birthday on the house... so we got double billed for an item we were served twice and never ordered, and had one taken off the bill ridiculous. do not understand the hype. that being said the pork chop was good and worth ordering for to go.

Menu was innovative. It had classic dishes with a twist. The service was wonderful all the way around, from the hostess, to the bartender, to the waitress to the servers. I love the feel of the space, and will definitely return.

I had heard that Gemma was good, but I was not prepared for HOW good. Everything on the table was superb--perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The roasted beet salad was a great prelude; I need hardly say, no canned mandarin orange slices here. The oysters ordered by one of my fellow diners looked fabulous (alas, I am allergic!); the cauliflower shared all around roasted just right. I ordered the Texas quail with lentils, despite the server's saying that she is not a quail fan personally; but she allowed that it was a popular dish, and I can see why. The quail was succulent and the lentils, which can be dull, were pleasingly acidic. All my friends were happy, too, though I have forgotten what they ordered. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. My only complaint is that while Gemma is not as loud as some restaurants, it could be quieter. Whatever happened to the quiet meal? At least we could hear ourselves talk and think.

Gemma's called to confirm our reservation. They asked if we were celebrating anything special. It was my daughter's birthday. When we arrived we were promptly seated and my daughter was given a personalized birthday card. The staff was extremely attentive to our needs. We were never left wanting anything (even our water glasses never went below halfway). The food was excellent! The whole experience was Fantastic!!

Gemma is my go to neighborhood spot and the food never disappoints! This time, we felt rushed by our server throughout the meal and he gave us our check when we were still eating dessert and were planning on ordering another glass of wine... he also had no knowledge of the cocktail list and couldn’t describe them. That normally wouldn’t bother me but when I’m spending $200+ on a meal, that level of service was very frustrating.

Loved it! We asked our waiter to select various small dishes for us (so we had no idea what we were being served) and we were not disappointed. Some of the dishes were items that we probably would not have chosen ourselves, so our tastebuds were taken on a mystery adventure and were greatly rewarded- great food, great service, nice ambience.

In spite of the chatter in the obviously popular restaurant, our conversation was easy to hear. Prompt and friendly wait staff, but thankfully not overly chatty. The food was superb — one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, perfectly done. The hostess was most welcoming, promptly storing my overcoat. For a first time diner, the feeling was that I was coming into familiar surroundings where my return was anticipated. Well done, y’all.

Pork chop, the polenta, and the scones were wonderful. Husband loved the beet salad and enjoyed the steak. Caesar salad was plain, but other food was great. They called about whether we were celebrating a special event. I had checked the date night box on the reservation site. I said, "yes, my husband is feeling much better on his cancer treatment." They asked, I answered. Nothing was done at the restaurant which only mattered because they called and I shared a special part of our lives.

The experience that is Gemma was amazing! It wasn’t just a dinner/date night, it truly is an experience from beginning to end. Sophia and Bobby (bartenders) were very attentive and pleasant, they made myself and my fiancé feel like part of their family, as if we are at Gemma everyday. Brian (the Sommelier) was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wine list; he was able to navigate around my very ambiguous answers to find a white wine that was delicious and complimentary to our meals.
The food was absolutely outstanding! We had the Baked Oysters, Spanish Style Clams, Pork Chop and Egg Noodle Pasta, plus two salads and two fantastic desserts. Everything from the kitchen was cooked to perfection! Thank you, Gemma!

I loved this place. The food and service was excellent. Our table wasn't immediately ready, so the manager comped our first round of drinks! Mind you, we didn't even have to wait that long, but they still felt it was important for them to do that. The food was delicious! I had the crab pasta and lots of appetizers. We'll definitely be back!

They're back to where they once were. After a couple of lackluster experiences, they absolutely brought their A game. Our table was properly held. Cocktails were brilliant. Oysters were well-chosen, and super fresh. Waitstaff highly attentive and knowledgeable. My entree, the squid ink bucatini, was divine. Perfect al dente, complementary sauce, and strong, perfectly-cooked seafood. Wine was good if somewhat overpriced (though not unanticipated for a nice place like this). Will be back for the same birthday next year.
