One of our go-to for years. It is clear that the owners have move on to the more lucrative Sachet.
Nothing wrong with that. But to leave Gemma as a struggling step child isn't ok.
Tonight we witnessed an insecure server staff and an understaffed bar. One person in the bar also serving the entire dining room. In its hey days they had at least 3 people manning the bar.
The food is delicious. The free scones are incredible. However, we were asked to move tables 3 times. This shouldn't happen for a special occasion of any sort, especially when I made the reservation over a week beforehand. In addition, the lights kept on flickering for the first 20 minutes of our dinner and that got pretty ridiculous. The food is by far some of the best I've had; the duck ragu and the rabbit pasta were incredible. Maybe we ended up coming on a day where everything was just messy and out of sort. We will definitely be back, but as far as service, they were severely lacking this day.
Lovely place and superb food - excellent service! Got sat next to a baby the only downside -can't imagine why anyone would take a baby to an upscale place with a sophisticated menu like this! The baby was also sick and coughing all over the place! I blame parents for not thinking this one through.
One of the best restaurants in Dallas. Highly recommend.
Fantastic food, great service. Everything tasted phenomenal. Beautiful thank you!
Excellent in all regards. Flavor, wine, service, wine.
Fantastic food! Everything was absolutely delicious
We were sitting very close to the tables around us and it felt like a group date. It took a very long time to get all courses so I’m not sure why there is pressure to order all courses at once. I had the salmon with potatoes and it was just that. The best part were the scones but we were cut off at 3 yet still waited on appetizer.
Food = 4 stars, service = 3, ambiance = 2
The food was very good but the overall experience was brought down by how cramped and loud the dinning area is. Service was fine, and honestly i'd give it 3.5 stars because of all the challenges the wait staff has to deal with with the narrow walk lanes and extra loud dinning area.
Excellent/ outstanding service, from complimentary valet parking to warm right out of the oven biscuits to uniquely prepared appetizers and entrees. Just lovely.
Everything was delicious as always :))
Location and atmosphere are great but, the waiters need to be trained! No salutations, no recommendations on the plates, no specials, etc. Very cold to you and they just don’t talk nor are friendly...
Waiter serves water, no hello, welcome, then we ask for sparkling water, grab our glasses and run to the kitchen ?!!!!? What about asking what we want 1st, offering us a bottle of water instead of 2 glasses, etc..?! I don’t know if the manager don’t let them speak or something but, this was a very odd experience and poor service...
Food was great and my friends were really happy!! Treated my friend with a birthday so nice!
Everything from the scones to the duck ragu pasta was delectable. And we loved the late night menu and reverse happy hour; it’s the perfect place to go after a musical at fair park.
Always 1,000% on every account - flavor, professionalism, expert wine program
Superlative from the moment we entered the restaurant. We flew 800 miles for our momentous meal. What a kitchen; what a staff including the knowledgeable waitress & hostess. A true gem!
One of the best dinners that I have had in Dallas!
Great service. Fried olives and pecans were so good. My husband and i had the red snapper and black squid shrimp pasta. Both were tastefully done and good. Will come back.
We had a play to attend and the server was very careful to get us out right on time ! The rabbit pappardelle was excellent, and so was the pork chop.
The red snapper was also very good. We shared appetizers - fried olives, burrata , and oysters - all again very good. We had a nice bottle of Sicilian wine at a reasonable price.
This was our first time to visit Gemma, but it will not be our last! This may have overtaken Abacus as my favorite restaurant in Dallas. Everything we ate was delicious, and we had 5 entrees, 2 salads, 3 appetizers and a dessert. They also treat you to the most luscious fig scone to start, followed by complimentary fried olives with nuts to go with our fabulous cocktails. Everyone is trying to do craft cocktails these days, but they are often too sweet or too herbal, but these were spot on perfect. Of course I had to taste everyone's food and drinks! The wine list is very unique. In addition to a few wines by the glass, they also offer several half bottles priced at about the cost of 2 glasses, so check out this option before you just order a glass. Our service was friendly and not at all stuffy. Do not miss the homemade pasta! I would recommend them all: lamb, duck, seafood, and the best was the rabbit. It's Gemma...Just eat the pasta.
Everything was excellent, except one person's red snapper was slightly overcooked, but edible. It was one person's birthday and instead of the usual cake, she received a bowl of fried olives and nuts, which she shared - So nice. So many menu selections and all we tried were wonderful, except for the poor red snapper.
Waitress w the angled, chopped bob haircut wasn’t friendly and we felt rushed. I cried after dinner on the whole car ride home!!
Our dinner at Gemma was our first time to visit the restaurant but definitely not our last. The service was impeccable. Our server was so attentive, so pleasant, and incredibly knowledgeable. She was at the top of her game....and she has the most beautiful ship tattoo on her arm. What a delightful experience. Thank you from the manager to the server. And the food....so good!!!
Wonderful! Servers were incredible and we loved every bit of being there!
The menu is misleading. The first section---Appetizers for Sharing. I've been twice and ordered 4 different Sharing plates and the portion on each plate is barely enough for a small appetizer for one. Take the Buffalo Burrata plate. 2 smears of Burrata on two 3-4 inch squares of carta di musica---Sardinian flatbread, is hardly a sharable portion. Even worse is the Duck Prosciutto. Several 3x1 inch slices of tissue thin duck served with a dollop of goat cheese and slices of toasted bread. Gemma should erase the Sharing suggestion and stop at Appetizers. Food tends to be over salted and is overall above average but not spectacular with close to San Francisco restaurant pricing.
During my Anniversary with my Lady at Gemma, we were impressed with the overall good experience we had. The atmosphere and food were excellent! Despite this, I have to say the hostess came across a bit rude which in turn prompted some pushback on my behalf. Although, the hostess’s customer service did diminish our experience a little, the bartender Brett and the rest of the staff more than made up for it!
Enjoyed the evening. Main issue: food was over salted.
The Duck Prosciutto, Red Snapper and Tagliatelle was very delicious.
We enjoyed our dinner and atmosphere and look forward to visiting Gemma soon.
Best restaurant in Dallas
Late night dining at 11pm
My fav in dallas - always get the rabbit Ragu on pasta - never disappoints! The salads are all awesome
Gemma is one of our favorite restaurants and it did not disappoint. The entrees of pork shops, quail and fish were all excellent. We continue to recommend Gemma.
Top notch all around
The food was outstanding - we tried the cauliflower appetizer and split a pasta dish. The main course was just the right amount of food and serve perfect temperature. We had a big snafu with the service but the Manager and server did everything they could to make it right and overall we had a great experience. Tables are tight so plan to overhear your neighbors conversations.
Service was very slow and the food took forever to come out. The food was good, but it took so long and we ended up eating so much bread while waiting for it that we weren't hungry by the time we got our entrees. The one menu item (the duck) I was really looking forward to trying, after viewing the online menu, was not on the menu at the restaurant. I was told it's no longer available. Overall it was ok, but not the best dining experience.
Still my favorite restaurant in Dallas for 3+ years running. They've done an excellent job of maintaining their quality.
Perfection, as always! Gemma never ceases to amaze.
Needed a late night dinner and this is the perfect place for that
One of our favorites Dallas restaurants! Great service, food and ambiance!
I went to Gemma when it first opened and loved it. Wanted to take my son to share the experience as we are both foodies and love trying new things. I was more than disappointed this particular evening. One water told us of ONE special and poured water. Another waiter finally came and told us of the OTHER special and took our order. That was the last we saw anyone for an hour and 15 minutes (other than the gentleman who brought our appetizer. A THIRD waiter checked on us because our drinks had been empty for quite sometime and asked if we wanted something else. YES. We had to check on our food multiple times. Food decent. Service horrible. Hostess as we entered was delightful. Too many great places in Dallas to visit so will not go back here.
