What Insiders Are Saying
Gemini Bistro is the kind of place where everyone feels like a regular, whether you actually are or not.
Great Neighborhood spot
Surprise birthday dinner
The Caesar salad was the best part of our meal. We had a seat by the front door and hostess stand but it wasn’t detracting. Our waitress didn’t mention the specials and we only noticed them on a paper hanging on the wall after we’d ordered and it would have changed our choices. The food was good but not great. I expect great for the price we paid. They kept trying to deliver our food to the wrong table which says something about their service or communication. Overall it was good but with all of the amazing choices in Chicago we likely will choose elsewhere next time
Great place, wonderful food and wine menu, service was fantastic too
One of the best steaks I have ever had. The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing.
The best neighborhood dining spot in Lincoln Park
This place has become a wannabe fine dining spot with some of the worst prices in Chicago. The staff are nice, and the place used to be cool, but the prices have gotten so ridiculous it is embarrassing. The kids menu, for example, is $12- no drink or dessert included! Better restaurants in this same neighborhood charge 50% less for their food and drinks, serve better food, and have much cheaper kids menus.
Had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time as I often refer people to restaurants and this one is in my area. Food was tasty but portions were smaller than you would typically find in other restaurants, and especially in light of the price point. Service was pleasant but not overly great. As an example, I ordered an iced tea to drink. Typically one gets their glass refilled promptly when you are getting low, but in this case that did not happen. When my server came around I asked for a refill on my iced tea. He then promptly told me that they were now out of iced tea. How does that happen? He then proceeded to offer me a soft drink, not as a replacement refill, but rather as an additional charge for a new drink. All in all, good food, but not a great value.
The ambiance and food are always reliable. It was the last weekend for Zoo Lights, so a 15 minute wait was very reasonable. Our server was not helpful and minimally friendly. She had no suggestions and seemed put out if we had any questions. We ordered the Zoo Lights menu and she didn’t offer us our dessert or drinks to go (very weak watery hot chocolate, expect more from Gemini). Won’t be back soon based on our server, too many other places to enjoy!
Gemini is an amazing place to have fun and also eat good food! Prices are fair according to the foods they have! Everything we order was outstanding! I will definitely go again!
We came with kids for an early dinner. Love the cozy atmosphere and our service was great. The trout was good but they could add a few more fish options. The truffle fries and Brussels sprouts good. The wine pours a little low and the final price of the bill very expensive for dining with our kids.
Great food and wonderful service
Been here many times and it's always top notch. Swordfish chop is outstanding.
Had a lovely New Year's Day brunch. The Eggs Benedict were excellent; Salmon for my husband and bacon for me. Both were excellent. My husband enjoyed his crab cake appetizer and I enjoyed the wedge salad although it was overdressed. Next time will order with dressing on the side. We also enjoyed cocktails with our brunch.
Thank you for being open on New Year's Day and for serving such a lovely brunch.
Favorite place in Chicago!!!
Brunch was delicious. From the lamb meatball appetizer to the Chilaquiles, everything was fantastic. Our server was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!
It was fantastic!! NYE PRIX FIX was worth the $90! Can’t wait to go back. The Hamachi WAS DIVINE
A very busy New Year's Eve...having said that our food was excellent. My sea bass with lobster risotto was excellent and my husband enjoyed his steak and scalloped potatoes. It was a four course price fix and one could complement their meal with a wine paring. The wines were well matched with the food. A very delightful, festive evening with good food, good wine and good service.
Sometimes New Year's Eve dinners are fun but the food is less than amazing - even when the restaurant usually provides stellar dining. Gemini's New Year's Eve dinner, however, was probably one of the best meals I have eaten at a restaurant in many years. There were four choices for each of the four courses - which was in and of itself unusual for such a meal - and all of our choices were delicious. The only thing that I would change would be the volume of the music - it was a bit loud for comfortable conversation.
Outstanding food and very consistent
Kids New Year’s Eve dinner was terrific for all. Food and fun were most enjoyable.
Would be great for everyday dining and groups.
Everything about it was wonderful! A perfect way for our family of eight to end our day, zoo lights and being together!
As usual, Gemini provided an excellent meal in a comfortable setting. Our waiter, Todd, was knowledgeable and friendly.
The wedge salad was very good. Lamb meatballs were OLD!!!!!!! Empanadas were medium OK. Had better ones in previous visits.
Delicious! and a great evening out with fun cocktails and really good food!
I agree with the other reviewers that the portions here are a bit on the small side. However, even without dinner rolls, I had no room for dessert. I found the cost to be a bit higher than the restaurants I normally go to, but I have absolutely no complaints and had a wonderful dinner and evening. I would suggest checking the wine prices before you have a glass. I ordered Prosecco which was well priced at $11 a glass. However, I also ordered the wine special which was a Zinfandel and it was a small pour for $14. The wine was very good but that’s a NYC price and portion.
I’ve been to Gemini 7 or 8 times since it reopened, and every single time the food has been exceptional. The combination of flavors in each dish are relatively simple, and yet the ensemble is an amazingly complex explosion of taste. Tonight we had the chicken tacos, lamb meatballs and crab cakes. All were superb. Our entrees were the prosciutto wrapped chicken, the swordfish and the mussels appetizer as a main course. All were great. We paired those with a 2012 Brunello which, though pricey, was wonderful. The service was, as always, efficient and very friendly. This is our new go-to neighborhood restaurant.
Really great spot, since they renovated. The food is much better (and more appropriate to the era), the decor is beautiful and cozy and a delight to take in, and the service is good. Overall great neighborhood spot now; we take our family (both parents and kids) here.
Always a blast! Have the swordfish chop ! Desserts are wonderful and they make the best dirty vodka martini in town !
Great neighborhood bistro and bar. The food never disappoints, and you always feel like an old welcome friend when you visit. Great gluten free and gourmet options to complement the cocktails, and everyone is super helpful and chatty. Recommend anyone to become.e part of the extended family. Superb.
My wife and I live in the neighborhood and do a Christmas date here every year. It’s always amazing from ambiance to food quality and this year was no exception.
Thank you Bryann for a wonder evening
Food was excellent. Booked reservation in advance with a note we were celebrating our anniversary. Waiter acknowledged it was our anniversary let us pick a desert. Brought it to us with a candle which was nice. And when bill came discovered the desert wasn’t comped in honor of our anniversary. I’ve never had that happen when dining at other places celebrating special events.
So if you’re celebrating a special event you should go somewhere else to receive a complimentary desert.
One of my favorite rooms in all of Chicago! I always feel cared for at Gemini, with one very glaring exception: the restaurant is in desperate need of some vegetarian and vegan options. It’s simply not acceptable to limit vegan patrons to a few appetizers and salad. #Hoping
Very good food! Server was knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely return!
Service was lacking, we had 6 at dinner and they forgot dinner for 2 which left us a decision to either wait 10-15 minutes for them to make it and have our meals cold or eat at different times. Not good.
This was our first time to Gemini, and we will definitely be back. We shared the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and we both ordered the fish special they had that night. It was an excellent meal. Their beer list is good. I found some locally made IPAs I had not tried before. A great evening out.
The food was exceptional and the service was even better.
My fiancé and I went on a Saturday night, good crowd, not too noisy.
We ordered the short rib special which was fantastic & cooked to perfection.
We also ordered the butternut squash tortellini, however we were informed after our appetizers that they had run out of tortellini, which is made fresh everyday.
We replaced the tortellini order with the scallops which were delicious.
The restaurant went above and beyond by excluding the cost of the scallops from our order due to the inconvenience of them running out of the tortellini. Most places would not do this and we were very grateful for it:
I bigot recconend this restaurant and will definitely dine there again when I return to Chicago.
