It is amazing how this place stays open. First of all, do not wear ANYTHING in the restaurant that you are not willing to burn. Everything you wear will stink. They need to add ventilation in that place. Also, they shove more tables in there than you can imagine. If there is a fire, everyone will perish. The food is decent and the service is good. Bottom line, I would never recommend this place, nor would I go back.
It's a wonderful place to be present with your loved one. There is so much for the senses to enjoy from a wide variety of foods to dip into various sauces, to cooking with your partner, to red lighting, to cozy brick walls and views, to breathtaking music, and everything in between. It's a special place to bond with someone.
We came to Geja’s to celebrate our 11th anniversary and was not disappointed. We got a one sided booth right in front of the guitarist. Service was wonderful and so was the food. A little pricey for the portions but all in all it was great! ❤️
Good service and good fresh food.
Looking for really expensive vegetables and 4 pieces meat this is the place to go
I've been to this restaurant many times and each visit is very enjoyable. The waiters are very attentive and nice. The food is fresh and the dipping sauces are beyond delicious! My wife and I choose to come here when we want a nicer, more intimate date. Great choice every time.
Geja's continues to be our favorite restaurant, and this time, as part of our Wedding weekend, was no different. Our main waiter, Sarah, made us feel comfortable and was very attentive. The romanticism of Geja's is something we talked about. What is it? Maybe the coziness of the restaurant itself, combined with the experience of dipping bread, fruit, and various proteins into a hot mixture and sharing it one another? Whatever it is, it's a delightful culinary journey that never fails to be the start to a wonderful evening!
Outstanding romantic dining. Highly recommender to anybody with a special someone
Everything was amazing. We celebrated my husband birthday and it was so romantic. The wine was good and the decor, low lighting and soft music was exactly what I was going for.
They say us at a table so tight that I was crushed between the table and chair. It was extremely uncomfortable but the hostess did remedy and move us to another table. The experience is neat but it is a bit pricey for a plate of unseasoned meat that you cook yourself by deep frying in vegetable oil. The service of the waitstaff and bussers was top notch. Afterward we attended a show and were looked at with disgust as we smelled strongly of fried food.
Anniversary
Had a nice time at Geja's. Was in town on business, but took the wife so we could spend time exploring Chicago. Came up with this restaurant. Was not disappointed. The price was right for the amount of food we got. Service was excellent too. Only gave it 4 starts for the noise level and the crowded space.
When your in Chicago---give it a try!
My boyfriend and I came here for our 6 month anniversary and it was such a wonderful and delicious experience! So romantic! I highly recommend!!
Great first fondue experience!
My dissatisfaction were seating by an airy doorway, flowers ordered were not presented as scheduled (I had to ask for them after waiting an hour), no birthday treat as promised, difficulty understanding the server.
Food and ambiance were great.
As always incredible food, but the squeezing in of all the tables SO CLOSE together when there is hot oil and fondue on a table is a huge fire hazard. I was nervous the whole time.
If you're looking for a romantic dinner with your loved one I highly recommend this place. The environment the area is great. Food is delicious.
Food was fantastic as usual. Our waiter was less enthusiastic and pleasant than any other waiter we've ever had. And in mentioning my seafood allergy, I had to then ask for separate dipping sauces because my husband ordered seafood. It was odd. This was the first experience that wasn't completely amazing, which isn't the norm.
We went there to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated right away but not in private booth as we wanted. No difference- food was phenomenal. Live guitar melody in the background. Very romantic very fun. The whole fondue experience was great
Food amd service are great however be prepared to smell like fresh seafood when you leave as you prepare your meal.
Is great place
My only complaint is that after I told the host/manager(?) that it was my boyfriends birthday could you please bring something with a candle in it and he said “yes we have a piece of cake to bring out”, they never brought it. Other than that it was a great first trip.
With a reservation, we weren’t seated right away, as there seemed to be some sort of “mixup” and then we were eventually seated at a very small and uncomfortable table, especially if partaking in any full dinners, which we were. We sat at the bar until they switch our table and there were noticeable delays between our server checking in. We went on a Thursday night and it was particularly busy. Other than that, dinner was enjoyable.
I had made this reservation for my friend because she was proposing beforehand. I had indicated that this was an engagement celebration hoping that something special would be done. Apparently nothing was. For a restaurant that seems to advertise as a romantic spot that was a little off putting.
Great place to take your wife or girlfriend on a romantic date
My boyfriend and I visited Geja's for Independent Restaurant Week. It was a lovely experience.
The usual awesome service and food at a great value. Packed on a Sunday night. Michael was outstanding, attentive to every need. Love this place!
We have been coming here a lot lately. Wish they were open for lunch though, as we prefer to eat heavier earlier in the day.
I've been told by friends to try Geja's so finally we did Saturday night. As much as I appreciate a quiet setting with mood lighting and privacy, its just a little too dark in there. We, and noticed other couples as well, strained our eyes to see the menu. The tables were very small for the amount of things that are placed on it. The first course is a cheese fondue with breads and fruit. The 2nd course (main) are the meats, seafood and vegetable: now we know why the 1st course is so bread intensive. It's to fill you up so that you don't notice your tiny portions in the main course (2 pieces of shrimp, 3 cubes of chicken, and 3 cubes of steak, the rest is vegetables). The cooking 2nd course pot had soy oil...and nothing else. It splattered as it increased in temperature. By the time the 3rd (dessert) course came, we were ready to go. We ate half and paid the bill. The service was absolutely Perfect. Micheal, our server was great, but if you are looking for Fondue, find a Melting Pot.
I have amazing experience at Gejas cafe....the atmosphere was great and very delicious quality food...the assistance stuff was helpful and very friendly and full of attention .....I love, love this place...warmly recommended for the romantic dinner 👍😊
When I made the reservation months ago I told them it was for our 50th anniversary. When we arrived we were taken to a tiny table in a corner where the chairs barely fit. Not much of a welcome for the occasion.
Anniversary dinner. Very nice!
Very Good Food. The service was very good, not rushed. The wine list is very good. It is a bit crowded, with the tables very close together, but that does not seem to interfere with the sense of intimacy which you get at your table. Sharing the fondue pots probably helps in that regard. I was not surprised to see a 20% tip included with my bill, as we were a larger party. I was VERY disappointed to see that the 20% tip was calculated including the wine bill. That is UNACCEPTABLE, and I will not return until I hear they have changed their policy. This restaurant is not inexpensive, nor is the wine list. I so expect to tip for waitstaff; I do not tip 20% for drinks or wine. Because the price of wine varies so widely, a reputable restaurant will not add an automatic tip to the cost of alcohol on the bill.
I was fortunate to get reservations last minute on Saint Patrick's Day. I love fondue and their authentic menu was a real treat when visiting Chicago for my first time. The selection was plenty and the staff was extremely friendly. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a great culinary fondue experience to eat at Geja's Café.
In my opinion, the server should explain the veggies available and we should have had a choice of which ones we wanted
It was amazing!
I came here for date night and couldn't have been happier. The ambiance is truly one of a kind. A bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it if you want to impress and have a good conversation with someone without being bombarded by noise and other conversation around you.
Love the fondue experience. Went there with my grown sons (not a date!) and still enjoyed it greatly.
This was my first time at Geja's Cafe and my first time dining at a restaurant that specializes in fondue and I loved it!! We were celebrating my birthday and ordered the all-inclusive dinner option which starts with fruit and cheese, followed by the main entre of meats and veggies, and then ends with chocolate and dessert items (marshmallows, rice crispy pieces, etc.). I loved the atmosphere and the whole experience and will definitely return when we are in Chicago again!
