Geja’s is always a very special place to celebrate a birthday.
We visit Gejas whenever we're in Chicago. Always a great experience.
The restaurant is a bit hidden but thanks to the big sign we found it in the end. We loved the decor and the fact that they had a coat check!
The server was very friendly and attentive and explained all the different steps. The food was AMAZING! We got the premier fondue experience (which includes a cheese fondue, meat fondue and chocolate fondue!).
Everything tasted super fresh and amazing (good quality ingredients). We are fondue fans and as we’re both from Europe, eat it on a regular basis at home. It was nice to finally find a place here in Chicago that serves fondue.
Overall, amazing restaurant with delicious food and a great place to celebrate special occasions or just have a romantic date! Highly recommend it!!
Excellent. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Had a gift card so went to celebrate an Anniversary. We had to wait for our reservation which is always annoying. They called us over, told us our table was ready, and then sent us back to sit and wait more. The cheese fondue was really good and I loved the dressing on the salad but I was disappointed with the main course. It’s just got soybean oil and unseasoned meat. There was no flavor at all. They offer dipping sauces but the sauces were not good and were odd choices. Siracha, bbq sauce, teriyaki all seemed watery. The butter Barlow sauce was NOT real butter.
The chocolate fondue was good.
Overall- super romantic vibe, nice long meal, but the food is not what you come here.
Amazing, will be going back for special occasions regularly.
Nice ambiance, wonderful staff and lively environment. I wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic dinner because noise level is too loud. Also, the main courses were overpriced for what you get. Recommend just sticking to desserts and wines.
Very quaint and nice place. Would recommend
Don’t burn yourself on the fondue pick.
Our server was patient and understood what to expect. Loved the ambiance and most importantly the food was delicious. Can’t wait to go again!
My boyfriend and I booked a table here to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. The place is really nice, the food is great, and the staff welcoming. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely go again.
A great place for a romantic dinner. Went on a weekday so it was not as busy. Waiters and staff was very attentive. Wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this place.
I've been to this restaurant multiple times and every time it's enjoyable. Great service and the experience is never disappointing. The choices of dipping sauces is always delicious too!
The dessert was delicious, make sure you do not fill up before dessert!
We have been coming to Geja's for many years and finally were able to bring our children. What a great experience for them! They look forward to doing it again!
The place is really nice.
A really fun and unique experience.
Usually I give this place a four or five but this time, our meat was frozen, could barely get the skewer through, and they served us cold coffee (supposed to be hot)
Over all good. Shrimp did not come out with the rest of the main meal & took 10 minutes before it was brought out ro rhe table. One server placed a dirty plate in front of one of our group which had to be brought to his attention when it was obvious.
Scallops were amazing! Probably our favorite part. The cheese wasn't as a good as previous visits, but still delicious. I think they might have changed the recipe over the last year. Overall, a great experience though!
Great food and great atmosphere. Our waiter, Louie, was very helpful and friendly.
We came in for a busy night on New Years Eve. We had the last seating time and the restaurant sat us promptly after our arrival. Only negative would be that the server asked us for a drink order so quickly that we didnt have time to review and that it look a long time for our server to return for our drink order. The food dropped before we had any drinks which is not a usual preference of mine. But everything was good.
Food was yummy. It was all part of a preset menu. The wine was delicious as well. Live music was not overbearing. Timing for each of the food courses was great.
Overall a very good experience.
My husband and I attended their NYE celebration and I would highly recommend the party to everyone! It was incredibly romantic, the food and handmade cocktails were delicious, and the service from host to server (Sarah) was perfect. It was our first time but we will definitely come back with friends. As first-time parents, my husband and I were really in need of a night to reconnect and Geja's provided exactly what we needed.
Its a must have experience if you ask me!
We went for new year and had a prefix package, and it was more than enough food! Everything tasted great, however the only downfall is that you will leave this place and you will for sure smell like cooking oil. My husband did get a bit sick ( not sure tho if this was because of the food as I ate same thing and I was fine)
We had cheese fondue, salad
We had beef, shrimp, lobster plate.
Also Belgian chocolate desert with fruit, s’mores and stuff, and that was my favorite part.
We had great time overall. Service was great, ambiance wonderful!I would for sure go again!
Geja's was on par with its usual great dining experience. Good food, service that was personable and efficient, and a good value.
My skepticism of a New Year’s Eve Prix Fixe event began to melt away as I stepped under the umbrella offered by the valet at the curb on a rainy night in Chicago. There were outdoor fireplaces to add warmth to the greeting. Cheerful greetings from the hostesses did the same. Our table was a disappointment in the middle of a crowded dining room, but it was a sold out event and we were a mother-daughter pair, after all. Our waiter explained ow the evening would proceed in just the right tone of friendliness and efficiency. The food was okay, with the best courses the meat and seafood and the chocolate dessert. The overall impression was one of celebration, value, and an evening that I highly recommend.
Great atmosphere, but that's about it. 50 to 60 bucks for small chunks of food that you must cook yourself. The value here is terrible. Dinner for 2 with 2 drink a piece and you are looking at $200. You will leave the place smelling like sunflower oil as well. The valet was harsh with my car just to top it all off.
If you are looking for a traditional Swiss fondue, look elsewhere.
Although Geja's is very popular, and been around forever, the cheese fondue is not the item to go for.
Perhaps if cooking your own beef or seafood in hot oil at the table is what you are anticipating, go and enjoy!
I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday. On the Open Table reservation form I noted we were celebrating a birthday, and also that we wanted a booth. The booth request was not honored and no acknowledgement of the Birthday was made. The meal was good, cheese fondue cravably good and the dessert chocolate fondue was delicious. However my girlfriend and I observed about halfway through the meal, that the meal was a lot of work!
Had a great experience! Our children had a blast!
It was amazing!! The food was fabulous and the service can not be beat.
Special place for a special event. First time in 15 years and didn’t disappoint.
Wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary
It was wonderful as usual. My kids took me for early birthday dinner. Try the seasonal drink specials.
Classic Chicago spot - ambiance is everything here. Good wine selection, attentive, friendly service. It's a place to linger and the staff allows you to do so. Basically you are paying for cut up ingredients - so it's hard to comment on culinary merits. Also, it's on the expensive side with drinks. But is you are looking for a romantic place for a unique evening, you can't beat it.
Not what it used to be. This place was a favorite of ours when we lived in Chicago in the 80s. The food is still OK (I mean, a 3-course fondue meal is a 3-course fondue meal, and they'd be hard to get wrong since the restaurant doesn't really prepare the food!); but in every other aspect, the restaurant was a disappointment, and the manager I spoke with could not have cared less.
Best food I ever had in my whole life. I want to be smothered in the cheese fondue.
Everything was delicious, very big portions. The ambiance was perfect, we loved it.
This was the 18th straight year to celebrate a birthday. Throw in a "walk around the block" to the Lincoln Park Zoo for the "Christmas Lights" and you have pretty much a perfect evening. That depends, of course, if the wind is off the Lake.
Geja's is a well-known Chicago establishment, famed its romantic ambience. And it certainly succeeds in that respect. On a cold winter night, it's a pleasant and cozy get away. The service is excellent and attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is quiet and warm. It's the sort of place that couples from the suburbs might make an evening of. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre at best. This is not authentic Swiss fondue by any means. The cheese fondue tasted like a packaged Kraft cheese sauce--essentially a white Velveeta--rather than the careful blend of emmenthal, gruyere, and/or appenzeller. And the dipping bread was soft, white, and bland--not the traditional crusty french bread that should be served. The beef fondue was a little better, although the dipping sauces are clearly aimed at the Branson, MO, crowd--teriyaki, bbq, sriracha!? Again, not the sauces typically found with authentic Swiss fondue. I won't go into the American mish-mash of veggies and fruits that now seem to accompany ALL fondues in the states. Even the chocolate fondue dessert tasted like warmed Hershey's chocolate sauce. Overall, Geja's is a fun, atmospheric place to eat. Unfortunately, the food is not authentic Swiss fondue and simply isn't worth the exorbitant prices.
