   Enjoyment of anniversary evening out was difficult in such a noisy environment – 75-85 decibels. Such loud noise impairs the ability to taste what you are eating and though the food appeared good, I didn't really enjoy it while we struggled to hear each other. The young man who waited on us was good but there didn't seem to be enough staff to provide a prompt service to the diners. No hooks for coats and hats. The floor may be clean but having to dump my best hat down beside my chair didn't impress. I'm not keen to try Gee's again. Sorry.

   Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I’m sorry to hear your anniversary experience wasn’t as enjoyable as it should've been. I understand that the glasshouse can get rather energetic when full, so we do offer alternative seating options, in the bar area and our covered & heated terrace, for those that would prefer quieter areas. If you decide to visit again, please don’t hesitate to let us know, and we will be happy to accommodate you in one of those areas. I’m glad to hear that you were pleased with the service provided by your waiter. However, I apologise if you felt the service during your visit was not as prompt as you'd hoped - we are constantly working to ensure the right balance of staff are on to meet the needs of all our guests.    Beautiful restaurant and excellent service, we had the express lunch menu. Starters were great - fish goujons were delicious as was the asparagus and the soup. The steak and chips were great and the risotto tasty, unfortunately the pizzetta was very disappointing- I really don’t think it should even be on this menu, it’s more of a starter. It was bland and just not at all up to scratch I am afraid. Thankfully we ordered the zucchini fries and some extra chips but otherwise my husband would have left hungry.

However, I’m genuinely sorry to learn that the pizzetta from our set lunch menu did not meet your expectations. We take great pride in preparing everything fresh, and it’s disappointing to hear that the pizzetta did not align with your taste.    Have visited Gees many times over the years, but this was our most disappointing experience. The menu (which differed from that shown on the website) was uninteresting, and the food was dull and overpriced. The chicken cacciatore comprised two lumps of tough chicken thigh, apparently deep fried, serviced with a dollop of tomato sauce. Not the succulent slow-cooked casserole we expected, and the polenta served with it was lumpy. The butterflied sardines, just four, made a tiny portion serviced with a very simple salad - poor value for a £23 main course. A side of leeks with feta was served with vegetables just a bit too hard, and not very tasty. It seemed as though the menu had been created for ease of assembly in the kitchen, not to offer the creative and delicious experience one hopes for in a restaurant of this calibre. The chips, however were delicious. Gees is always noisy, but at least we were able to get a table in the bar area which is better. Overall, an overpriced and underwhelming experience.

Similarly, I’m sorry that the sardines and the leeks w/ feta didn’t deliver the quality or value you anticipated.    Lovely experience, food good the soup was lovely but I think bread should have been given with the soup

   Exceptional experience. Venue, service and food all utterly brilliant. Beautiful greenhouse setting away from main Oxford hustle and bustle. We arrived 30minutes before our booking but were seated without question. Service was warm and attentive but never obtrusive. Immaculate soft shell crab, crisp pizzetta and bread starters. Delicious mocktails and decent martini. Mains well timed. Focussed pasta dishes with unctuous sauces. Burrata salad creamy and light. Succulent lamb chops with salty/sweet bacon and peas. Creamy almost chewy ice creams for dessert with complimentary birthday scoop. It’s not cheap. It’s not Nando’s. It’s an absolute gem of a local restaurant. Highly recommended!

   Upon arrival of the restaurant you can see why it has good reviews for its beauty. However, we weren’t greeted quickly. Tables are small and crammed in. Scallops undercooked and no check back on food throughout whole meal. My partner ordered the chicken and it was the most bland dinner she had in a while. My lamb cutlets had more raw white fat on them than meat. For the price this place charges, you’d expect a lot more. Nearly £30 for scallops, and around the same for mains. In my opinion, extremely over priced for what this restaurants offers. Even when we left, no staff interaction or a goodbye. I mean, it was nothing to write home about, nor was it extremely terrible. Just more, meh. Like I said, for the price £170 for 2 courses each and 2 drinks each.. you’d expect more. I will say, pasta dishes look good, so if you do eat here, go for that.

After reviewing your experience, I’d like to clarify that you were greeted within seconds of your arrival and seated in under 30. Your waiter also checked back when clearing the scallops, and again part-way though your mains. We strive to make every guest feel welcome to ensure a smooth start to their experience, and to also be given opportunities to inform us of any issues at the time, to allow a chance to remediate.     The food was very good. The drinks however were appalling - way too much ice. We took the ice out of a coke - left with less than half a glass. The Mohito when it was cleared from the table was still full of ice. Two sips and it was gone. Rose raspberries spritz had to be remade as it only tasted of soda. When it was relaid it had less than two cm of liquid - without the soda and ice. Total rip off. Sorry.

We serve our cokes from 200ml glass bottles, and we are very happy to serve with less ice upon request.
