GDL Italian by Giada
When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty. We had to wait a few minutes before anyone spoke to us and when one guy talked to us, he told us to hold on as he proceeded to walk around the restaurant looking at...? Then a woman helped us and said they needed about 10 minutes to wipe down the table. 10 minutes to wipe a table? And it was empty? And we had a reservation? I was confused. When we were finally seated it was in a different area then we had requested and the table next to us was dirty. All that said, our server was wonderful and the food was excellent. They need to work on organization and keeping things clean at all times, but once we sat down, everything was great. I hope to return and receive a better greeting.
GDL has great food, exceptional customer service, and a great environment for lunch or dinner. Parking is a breeze due to the fact that it is located at Horseshoe Casino. Giada's restaurant has a great ambiance as well and nice interior design with a nice sized bar with televisions showing current college and professional sports games.
The food was ok. The server just did not do a good job taking the order. She had messed up the order twice. They also did not bring the food out in order.. we got our appetizers with our entree and got our side first! The wine I ordered was definitely been open for a while, it was flat and we had to send it back
I have followed Mrs Giada from the Food Television forever. This restaurant is superb. The atmosphere is five star. We were celebrating my significant other's birthday. He loves Italian cuisine. I loved my experience and I will be returning with my sisters for girls night out. The restaurant is outstanding and over the top. Very clean, decorated to perfection and soft music playing. Thank you Mrs Giada, Chefs, Monique and staff for making me feel as if I was out of Baltimore for a few hours. Love this five star restaurant.
Yummy food-like eating in a basket ball arena- nice, though.
Everything we tried was very good. Loved the lasagna
Restaurant is located in casino. Most guests were casino players. We were not...we just went because we love Giada. Food was good. Some dishes were excellent. Had read some reviews suggesting service was not the best, so we spoke kindly to hostess and server at the start. Whether due to our initial comments or not, service was stellar. Very attentive without being intrusive. Very pleased. Another nice feature is free valet parking (as long as no stadium event). I would recommend to anyone going to casino. But, with Little Italy nearby, I would not recommend a special trip unless, like us, you love Giada.
[another note - casino was busy on a Saturday night. am not sure, but it seems that were more than a few hobos in the crowd. in general, ambiance of casino was less elegant than other casinos we have visited.]
I had the Salmon with Italian succotash-it was delicious! Others in my party tried the Short rib, which they said was tasty-but May have had a bit too much fat. Polenta with short rib was a hit, too! As were the crab cakes appetizer. Whatever the Cheese ball appetizer was, we should have skipped that. Lovely ambiance, nice waitress. But we did feel we were being rushed toward the end-& they wouldn’t let us extend our reservation to include another person (though there was clearly room at our table & plenty of open chairs at the time), my Mom! Plus, at the end-while they were putting tables together for an incoming ‘big’ party, besides rushing us to finish, also tried to push the tables together-at the end of OUR table, which would have made it impossible for us to get out of the booth on that side! My party included a couple of older individuals who could not ‘slide out’ the other side-so that would have been bad! Food was great though, & I would go back. Just need some of the staff to know that different people eat at different rates, & to account for that when allowing reservations. No one should be rushed to finish eating good food!
Great date night spot. Tasty cuisine. Contemporary and comfortable decor.
We visited on a recent weeknight. Things got off to a rocky start as we waited almost 30 minutes for our drinks but fortunately everything improved after that. There seemed to be an issue with a slow bartender. We ordered the Frittelle appetizer and it was amazing. We would come back just for that. My husband loved the branzino and I loved my pasta. The pace of the meal was very slow. Service was truly fantastic though. Sloane was our server and she took very good care of us and answered all of our questions about the menu. We will definitely go back.
Food was fantastic. They had a lot of servers call out sick, so the bartender was our waitress. She made it work, but it was tough for her running back-and-forth between the bar and tables so service wasn't up to par.
The food was delicious!
I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I ordered the spaghetti & turkey meatballs and my husband ordered the chicken parm. When we asked for bread, we were told that they didn't serve bread and did not even bake it. I have never heard of an Italian dish that did not serve bread. The food was bland and I thought was too expensive for the portions that were served. I have had better a the Olive Garden, at least you get unlimited salad and bread sticks.
Great date night. Food was delicious and staff awesome.
the food is good but the service was super slow. i am all about a relaxing meal but i agree with others that service here is awful. our wine was not available, another complaint i have read from reviewers. we shared a burrata appetizer that was good but the tomatoes were not seeded so there was a burnt aftertaste to the dish. we were served our main pasta courses before we had even received our appetizer and sent them back where i think they were just warmed up instead of being re-made. i had a shrimp and pasta dish and my wife had a bolognese. they were good but there was nothing exceptional about this place that would make us return. we were also seated next to the bar which was super loud.
I’ve been a fan of Giada since her early days on the Food Network, so I really wanted to like her new restaurant in Baltimore. Unfortunately, our experience tonight was overall mediocre. The food was quite good, including the pizza and al dente cooked pasta - very much in the spirit of authentic Italian. Unfortunately, the service was poor. Our server was nice but everything was super slow. Our appetizer came out before our drinks and the second round didn’t come out until we were almost done eating. The space is beautiful. Giada, please make some adjustments to get the service up to par with everything else!
We love Giada’s! We have been there many times and have tried many of the dishes. It has always been a pleasant experience. The hostess is the nicest she can be and the servers are wonderful, helpful and timely. We have never been disappointed. We have eaten in the restaurant and the bar. The tables are nicely spaced. You’re not sitting on top of people like many restaurants do. The food is delicious. The prices very reasonable. The photo booth is fun!
Food was not tasty at all...service and ambiance was great. Food was not good
We first visited Giada's in Las Vegas and were impressed with the food and service. I have found that many of the celebrity chef's restaurants are underwhelming (Gordon Ramsey Baltimore) . GDL was exceptional, we started with the antipasto dish for 2, Luis was our waiter, the platter was thoroughly explained . The food was fresh and delicious. We next tried the meatball trio, I highly recommend it, it was small enough to sample for 2 but enough to taste. All three samples were cooked to perfection and each had its specific sauce. I had the full branzino fish, it comes whole (head and tail). It was cooked to perfection, I recommend it, but remember the bones are still intact. My wife had the rockfish, cooked to perfection. We did the side sampler, it was plenty for 2 people, we could not finish all of them. I recommend it for two, but if you had more than 2, I would double the order. Overall my expectations were exceeded. I am looking forward to returning and trying some of the other menu items.
The flavor of the food was not what we had hoped. It took some time to receive our meals.
Would not recommend. I got the spaghetti and Turkey meatballs, spaghetti was not done, no seasoning in the sauce and for $21 it was not worth it. My boyfriend got the chicken parmesan which was $27 and spaghetti was bland and chicken was bland also. I was expecting a lot better than this for this kind of restaurant.
Our experience was pretty underwhelming. We arrived on time for our 9 pm reservation only to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was busy and took forever to take our drink/appetizer order. Our appetizer order wasn’t correct but he did bring us our missing antipasti platter. Food was amazing but service just wasn’t good.
We were dining in ‘honor’ of my breast cancer diagnosis and upcoming start to chemo.
Had the chicken picatta which I thought was not done and rubbery. I told the waitress and she had the manager come over who was very nice but they still charged us for it.
The food was delicious and the service was amazing.
Wasn't sure what to expect being a Casino restaurant. Situated in a great place sheltered from the noise of the Casino. Wait staff were excellent, we had at least three that kept checking on us, making recommendations etc. Very friendly and very efficient. My Wife had the Lasagna, I had the Pork Chop and Fingerling Potatoes ( which were to die for ! ). We shared a Tiramisu for desert. All in all not one bad thing to say, will definitely come again. And they have a free Photo Booth ! Perfect for a valentines date meal.
Very disappointed in our dinner. Our waitress was not very attentive. I got the kale/Caesar salad which was $12. The salad was very small, almost like a side salad. Was expecting a much bigger salad for $12. I got the lasagna. It was all cheese, hardly any meat. My husband got the chicken parmigiana. It was a very small serving and it wasn’t even warm. Overall experience was not enjoyable. Not planning to return.
The service team was excellent, friendly and attentive! The food and drinks came out at appropriate times and the menu had very nice variety. My wife and I loved the apps moreso than entrees, the Burrata and Crab Arancini. Entrees were delicious, but nothing as spectacular as we were hoping. Wouldn't not come back, but wouldn't seek it out again.
The food wasn’t worth the price. The waiters took a long time to service our table as well.
Giada's has a very relaxed and casual atmosphere but you won't feel out of place if you're dressed up. The portions are more than plentiful for both appetizers and entrees. The crab arancini and burrata were both amazing. Chicken piccata and the rockfish were both great choices as well. Service was good for the most part and is done via a team effort. Overall a great dining experience.
Overall the experience wasn’t bad but wasn’t as good as we expected. Not very Italian feeling.
Great wait staff. I loved the crab balls and turkey meatballs. Pleasing decor and atmosphere. I will definitely return.
Stay away. Dont waste tour time here.
Pleasantly surprised at the meal. The restaurant is decorated in a fashion that appeals to women. You are first seated in a little waiting area while your table is readied. The fried crab ball appetizer is good, really different lots of filler, not enough crab. The oysters were good, I would have preferred cocktail sauce. The chicken piccata was great. Really different, but tastey. My wife's shrimp and pasta was So good, she took half of it home, so she could enjoy it later. The tiramisu was great, I like mine with a little more liquor in it. Overall it was a great meal!
Delicious!!! Everything was amazing and the staff was on top of it!
Over priced food which didn't give any feeling of being in an Italian restaurant. The meatball sampler was awful. Actually left some on the plate (only three meatballs on the sampler - $13.00) because the flavor was not palatable. The menu was limited with "fancy" flavors and names that the only true choice was the chicken parm. Not worth $26 for a piece of chicken, box spaghetti, and average sauce. We've had better meatball sandwiches at subway and wawa. Little Italy in Baltimore is a few minutes away from this restaurant which has much more authentic Italian food with larger portions and better flavor. The service was extremely slow. The restaurant only had two other tables occupied. Multiple employees stopped by to see how everything was and I looked at my wife and asked why they were asking... we only had a glass of water on the table - no food yet. We were there for there for more than 100 minutes - again, two people, one appetizer and the main course. I walked over to the bar at one point to get a drink because the service was so slow. I'll never go back. Huge disappointment
My first plate of spaghetti was toooo al dents although the manager said it was cooked properly (it was sticking to my teeth!). She compt a dessert. My leftovers were thrown away so they made an entire dish to take home and was charged half price. Service started out really well but it seemed like after I mentioned the spaghetti, the attentiveness of our waitress declined.
We thought it would be very noisy as the casino is open to the seating area. Several times we commented that you could not hear any casino noise. Food was fantastic. Service was excellent as well. We will definitely be back.
We were pleasantly surprised. The pizza is excellent. My husband really enjoyed the steak.
The beef short rib was delicious and very tender. The bar and waiters were very professional and polite
