The food was delicious. I went with a friend who is vegan. I’m not usually a fan of felafel but these were amazing! So fresh and soft and all around delicious. Had the hummus with mushrooms and the ful medames with tomatoes which was outstanding as well. Very good service. I’ve had the borekas before and I highly recommend those as well.
Extremely tasty and satisfying.
We had the Gazala's platter divided between four people. We got to taste a little bit of a selection of hot and cold mezes. It was all good.
Then we shared the lamb kebab which were nicely seasoned slabs of lamb. Excellent.
We also had Kabab halabi which was also fabulous and quite different from the kebab.
We barely had enough room for the baklava and date cookies for dessert. It is worth saving room since they are so different from the run of the mill desserts.
All around an excellent meal.
The food was terrific — we shared the mezze platter which satisfied three of us. The Druze cookies, described perfectly by our helpful and attentive server, were great. The dining area is comfortable and we could converse easily even though most tables were occupied.
Unfortunately a disappointing visit. We are regulars at the restaurant. When the owner is not present, the food is simply not tasty and does not come close to the original one. Hummus tasted like plastic, burekas was cold and hard inside, we had to ask for pita bread repeatedly until we got it, eggs were over cooked and overall food was a great disappointment. When the owner is present it’s always a great authentic experience. I wouldn’t recommend based on that visit.
Great food amazing service
It’s worth for the food alone - they could do some improvements with service since at busy times it’s hard to get their attention, but overall it’s worth it. The food is genuine and unpretentious, rarity these days even in casual restaurants.
Four of us shared the Gazala's platter and then each of us had a bowl of lentil soup. Each taste of the platter delighted our tastebuds. The lentil soup was excellent but next time I would share one for two people. I regret we had dessert at another restaurant. I know from experience the cookies are very good.
This food is the freshest, most delicious, consistently wonderful food. I'll be coming again and again.
I absolutely loved my food And I followed the bartenders advice and had their signature appetizer which was delicious It had an usual name but of course I don’t remember but the gist of it was a small baked ring of feta and spinach it was excellent.
We had a large group - including 2 babies and they were nothing but nice and accommodating! Food was delicious and service impeccable.
Booked on open table. Turns out they save only 1 table for the night for reservations so we were still waiting over 30 minutes later on a Friday night for the table to pay its bill. There are too many other good restaurants in NYC to bother with this.
The food was good but the restaurant was too hot and too noisy. Also, service was slow.
Fantastic food and equal service.
Dinner was disappointing over all. Nothing exceptional. Food was ok and not as good as we expected. We’ve eaten at Gazela’s on 9th Avenue and always enjoyed it. The saag bread was not fresh, the grilled chicken I ordered for the Israeli salad was good but the portion size was ridiculously small for the price. Hostess was very unfriendly and unwelcoming.
Food was great. When we were there the music -- which sounded like something you'd hear in a European disco -- was way too loud.
Food came out from the kitchen cold ...
Disappointing food & beverage. Service not good. Much too loud. Will not return.
We had to ask 3 times for sweetener for an iced coffee, and our main salad course didn’t include the grilled chicken we ordered on the side. The waitress claimed we didn’t order it, and we definitely did.
$35 per person for lunch was expensive considering we shared an appetizer and a main salad, and only had an iced coffee and Club soda.
Outstanding food, we had great time and enjoyed the appetizer platter and some very unique dished that I could not remember the names, but so tasty and out of ordinary tastes.
We had an early reservation (6:15) because the reviews on Open Table and Yelp said that the restaurant can get very noisy. Dining there early is the way to go! The restaurant wasn't empty, but there were plenty of tables open. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, and we could easily hear each other. Be warned, however, that the later it was, the noisier it became, and the less we saw of our friendly wait staff. By the end of our meal, it took a long while to request, and receive, a check, and it was so loud we had to talk loudly into each other's ear to converse. Still, if you go early, or don't mind loud "energy" if you go after 7pm, it's a great experience all around.
Authentic and hospitable place. Excellent falafel and homemade bread. Try the unique desserts.
Delicious food, attentive staff. Will return for the kibbeh and dessert platter (& everything else)!
Food was tasty and well presented. Service was attentive, although they did seem eager to get us out as quickly as possible once we had finished eating.
Love, love, love their food!
Service and ambience are a nice complement to the delicious food!
Delicious local treasure. Fresh food simply prepared.
Food profile was excellent!
Just wish things could have come out a bit faster, waited a very long time for appetizers
We had only mezze but loved every one: shrimp, artichokes, eggplant, and lamb. We sat at the bar (because it was the quietest spot this particular evening) and enjoyed watching the amiable bartender making drinks and conversation. A lovely evening.
2nd time here - love it! Great food and service. Excellent value.
Great food. Waitress was good but others too quick to clear plates. Food never disappoints.
Druze food is such a pleasure to be able to find on the UWS. The meat grape leaves were outstanding and the bread--different from pitas, more like injera--that came with the hummus was also great. Heavy on the meat dishes for entrees.
Food and service were great! Will definitely be back.
Fun but too loud to fully enjoy!
Great service, amazing food! Would definitely go again!
The food was just OK. Nothing special. Don’t care for their bread. Way to thin.
The one major complaint was that they charged $4.50 fo a glass of iced tea. They said do you want a refill and I said yes assuming free refill on an iced tea. But NO. 2 iced teas $9.00. What a RIPOFF
Wonderful food. The lamb and the gummies are delicious Waitstaff are friendly helpful and fast.
We were very disappointed. We ordered several appetizers, a salad, and entrees. We specifically told the server to pace out the dishes. Well, EVERYTHING showed up at the same time. The server did not seem to bothered, blaming it on the kitchen. I will not dine there again.
Many vegetarian options for starters but fewer for entrees. Restaurant is tightly organized in terms of seating. Service was good. Food was OK, had hoped it would be a bit more delicately spiced and/or prepared. The hummus was disappointing as was the pita bread. The borekas (spinach/cheese) was good. In one of their other locations the food felt more authentic and was tastier. We were three people and none of us loved the food and left with a "wow."
Great food, nice service, mostly authentic flavors. Will be back
Very enjoyable. Excellent food. We stayed as long as we wanted and were never rushed.
