Gaylord's at Kilohana Ratings and Reviews
Our evening was perfect. We started with delicious cocktails in the relaxed, soothing bar. Our service was impecable and well trained. All of us enjoyed and shared our food. The only Vegetarian was pleased with the selections available. Farm to table, the salads were so fresh, one could tell it came right from the organic garden.
It's all a matter of taste, and for our taste the food at Gaylord's was unfortunately average, nothing special. The ahi tuna had so much flavor crust on it, that it was hard to taste the tuna. The cioppino was average, pretty heavy on tomato sauce, again obscuring the flavors of the fish. The mahi-mahi daily special was OK, but again didn't do anything to set off the special flavors of that fish. We had a dessert that was ice cream with whipped cream on it, again nothing specially interesting or exciting about it.
We enjoyed the ambiance of eating outdoors, around the patio. Also dining that way was much less noisy than a usual restaurant, and easier for the person in our party who uses hearing aids. Service was attentive and informative, without hovering, great job.
When in Kauai...Gaylord's should be a must
Mai Tai's and lava Flows...two great choices for cocktails.
Crab and artichoke cheese dip made with artichoke hearts, blue crab, and capers in a mozzarella cream cheese blend then baked with an asiago gratin. Topped with a tomato concasse and served with housemade crostinis ....super appetizer.
The sea scallops were served over potato croquettes and lentils with applewood smoked bacon, fennel cream sauce and lightly dressed arugula greens ...done just right!
The Cioppino was some of the best I've had. It had the day's fresh catch plus scallops, blue crab, shrimp, clams, and calamari in a spicy tomato sauce with a coconut lemongrass beurre blanc.
Great place for any occasion. Elegant settings, classic in style, great food and very enthusiastic, professional and helpful staff (with exception of greeting person-blond young girl who forgot that smile can do miracles), She was the first impression of the place, thankfully the rest was very good.
Grilled Mahi Mahi was excellent but the Seared Ahi Tuna with sauce was not my favorite preparation. Food came very fast but we felt rushed by the waiter. Not a very personable experience. While disappointed in the overall experience, would be willing to try it again.
Ordered a Cobb salad no blue cheese dressing and no bacon.
I received a Cobb salad loaded with blue cheese. I apologized to the waitress thinking the menu read blue cheese dressing AND blue cheese, thinking I made the mistake. Upon looking at the menu I realized I was not, that the kitchen ignored my request.
I should not have been embar Edie Kohl Margules no. But embarrassed and apologized profusely BUT instead should have received an apology from the management. AND if someone doesn’t want blue cheese dressing WHY WHY WHY would you top off the salad with lumps of blue cheese? We went for lunch. We are not going back for a dinner.
Came here to celebrate my 50th Birthday while visiting on Kauai. We sat on the edge of the patio with a great view on the open grass area. Service was great but they never mentioned or celebrated my birthday even through we told them when making the reservation. I ordered the prime rib medium and it came out well done...almost no pink. It still taste good so I didn’t complain. The meal was very pricey but we knew that going in.
Went for Christmas dinner was not told that the menu was a special one was disappointed as we would have liked to have tried some items that were not available I made this reservation months ago and yet we were seated at the back in a very busy serving area. Tried addressing this with the women at check in but she clearly was not having a good day and her snappy comment back was your table is where it is and we are busy as you can see! Unfortunately dinner was below average and overpriced for the quality and quantity My soup was warm not hot my daughters salad was very very small. My main course was fish and it was burnt and dry The only saving grace was our very friendly server. Not the Christmas dinner we expected left disappointed
We had a family Christmas dinner at Gaylord’s! Did the price fixe 3 course dinner. This included soup or salad, choice of entree and a dessert trio. 3 had the prime rib entree, 1 had the pasta with seafood and another had the chicken. Everyone was pleased with their dinner and left the table completely satisfied. We also had a mai tai and lava flow drinks. All were very good. The atmosphere was lovely and the weather was perfect. We highly recommend Gaylord’s!
This was a repeat visit as we had such a great time several years ago. Food was very good and service friendly from all parties.
The drawback was that we opted for a later brunch time at 1pm. It was Christmas Eve and evidently they were busy getting ready for dinner. We were seated in a dark corner and our waitress and other servers pretty much forgot about us in the changeover about halfway through our meal for drinks and bussing of table. Though everyone was very nice, we still left feeling that the experience was not quite what we were hoping for.
We visited Gaylords for a buffet style brunch while vacationing on Kauai.
We have gone to Gaylords for brunch and dinner every time we have vacationed here, and have had good experiences every visit.
This visit was dissapointing.
A choice of a chef cooked egg omelette or Benedict was included. My choice of a sesame encrusted seared ahi egg Benedict was very good.
The buffet was generally ok, but the scrambled eggs and the frittata were rubbery and over cooked. The rest of the buffet selections were ok, but nothing stuck out as special.
My wife held off on ordering a veggie omelette until later in the meal. The kitchen lost the order, when we asked our server about it, we also said if it wasn't ready, it was ok, don't prepare a replacement, just bring the check. After another lengthy wait, the server brought a replacement omelette, and was very apologetic......
The couple that provided entertainment was very good, and the best part of the visit.
We will give them try on our next return to Kauai for dinner, but not for brunch.
Live piano music in the bar, which we could also hear from our dining table outside was lovely. The shops were a delight to visit before dinner. Food was delicious, especially banana coconut cream pie after dinner and mai tai with fresh ingredients before dinner.
We were celebrating a special occasion, which we indicated on our reservation. It was never acknowledged. My husband ordered your fish of the day. The serving was only 1.5 oz. or less...what a disappointment and rip-off. I ordered a salad with tomatoes, portabello mushrooms, pine nuts and blue cheese. I had two tiny cherry tomatoes that were cut in half, two tiny slivers of mushrooms, about 1 tbsp of pine nuts and small amount of blue cheese. Again, big rip-off in price. I asked the waitress for some bread, as I was still hungry and she said "We don't serve bread at lunch, but I'll check". She never did anything about it. When asking for a refill of our beverage, it took oer 10 min. to do so. When clearing the table, the waitress dropped a heavy knife on my right hand, which caused bruising and swelling. We have always been good customers of yours over the years and recommended your restaurant to many of our friends. Not any more, after what we experienced. There are way too many other restaurants in the area who will be happy for our business. You have priced yourself out of the ballpark.
Food was mediocre. Nothing spectacularly great. Quite a few choices. The omelets were tasty. $10 for bottomless mimosa was good deal. Music was too loud. Impossible to enjoy. Also we couldn’t carry on a conversation because of the volume on the live performance.
The website advertised a Bloody Mary buffet. We were disappointed to find out it was no longer offered.
The individual slicing the prime rib took painstakingg effort to slice it paper thin. It gave the perception that they were “cheap” on what was a fairly expensive buffet.
The live music really added to the ambiance. Very enjoyable
