Beautiful plantation home with grounds worth exploring before dinner. Outdoor patio seating. Fresh fish well prepared.
Great service and wonderful food. The fish tacos were outstanding and the Reuben sandwich was delicious and huge. Our child enjoyed the pasta with chicken and the view of the property is great.
We loved Gaylord’s. The food was fantastic and the ambience was the best we experienced on Kauai. The service was friendly and professional. Our waiter, Jay, was attentive and kind. The live guitar player (Cory) was so good. We would have stayed longer in the lounger afterward to listen if we didn’t have to catch our flight home. The gentleman working in the gift shop was so kind and warm. Our only regret about this place was that we went on our last night in Kauai instead of our first. We look forward to going again when we return to the beautiful Garden Isle.
We had an amazing lunch at Gaylord’s. We liked it so much that we returned today for there Brunch. Excellent!
We have been coming here for 10 years. We always come to Brunch as we did this time. However, it seems as though there have been changes to brunch offerings which are little disappointing. They have added an omelet bar, which is a great addition. However, the other foods seem more suited to dinner (I.e., garlic steak bites). Less traditional brunch offerings now than in previous visits. My secret desire are the malasadas, and normally are worth the 5 hour flight. This visit though they were undercooked and pretty doughy. Loved the granola and yogurt with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, had seconds. In past visits, you could order a variety of Eggs Benedict, but not this time. Wasn’t even offered a POG Mimosa! Will continue to visit for brunch and hope they do a course correction and bring back a true brunch menu.
We enjoyed a great lunch here and then walked over to Koloa Rum and enjoyed a free rum tasting (and bought a bottle of the amazing coffee rum).
Lovely seared ahi, wasabi sauce was not overwhelming like some but a smooth combination of flavours. Decent selection of by the glass wine. As a party of 1 I had good service, which is not always the case when you go solo.
Been to Kauai several times and thought about eating at Gaylord's and finally did so as our last evening on the island. Was disappointed. Waitress was not attentive and never even asked how the meal was. Asked to split a dinner salad to start with and got charged for 2 salads. The meal was pricey and not of exceptional quality. The ambience was OK. Guess we can chalk it up as been there, done that, but would not recommend it.
The food and staff were amazing- especially Ipo!
Hawaiian hospitality@ Best.. relaxing plantation garden lunch.. wonderful menu & delicious food.. a real gem & one of our local favs😋❣
Food was delicious! Servers were great. Definitely recommend.
Came for Sunday brunch and were i’m amazed and blown away by how delightful everything was. Our server was fabulous and the food was amazing. Sat outside around the grass and watched a father daughter musician play music while the daughter. hula dancer. It was the perfect Sunday
The location of this restaurant is wonderful with the old plantation home. The service was passable, but the good was of quite poor quality- tasted like cafeteria food served lukewarm. The food was really quite a disappointment and they charge $5 for a low quality doughy bread Roll!
This was our fifth dinner there and our first Thanksgiving dinner and it was perfect for my family. Everyone had something different to eat from fish, pasta, prime rib and turkey. We’ve already planned our return trip for next year and we’ll head to Gaylord’s again for Thanksgiving.
Food was very good but so expensive. Service was so so. We ordered dessert an$ they came back 45 minutes later to say they ran out...👎
Thanksgiving dinner. Food was awesome. Turkey for me, prime rib for my husband. Great food and music
We went for Thanksgiving. Had a reservation for 6, got there early and was able to be seated. The food portions were great. Not too much and the Turkey dinner was outstanding.
Highly recommend Gaylords for lunch, dinner , luau whatever your choice.
Was a great place to spend Thanksgiving! A little pricey but most restaurants are here. Musical entertainment was great also.
We had four at our table for Thanksgiving Dinner. Lots of extra tables were set for the occasion, but the food and service could not have been better. One had traditional turkey, while others had prime rib. All done to perfection. The crunchy pumpkin pie was excellent causing everyone to overeat!😊
Went for Thanksgiving and we were disappointed. The soup was warm upon arrival. The prime rib was under cooked for my friend. The waitress wasnt helpful.
The food we took home was squished together in a box. It was a crazy experience. Last time I was so pleased this time very disappointed.
Lovely, well maintained mansion is a beautiful setting for dining. Uneven stone flooring in U-shaped outdoor dining area is only for the sure footed. Individuals w mobility issues should best eat in the formal dining room or lounge/bar areas. Food is generally tasty & well presented.
We had an early dinner on Thanksgiving (3:00pm). The server did not seem at all experienced. After taking our order she never returned to our table except to give us the bill at the end. The only reason we left a decent tip was because of the young man serving water and removing plates. We thought there was going to be entertainment. The musical group stopped playing when we arrived and never returned. We had hoped for a lovely experience and were disappointed. Overall, it wasn't a good value.
We usually dine here only on Thanksgiving day. The table was not yet fully set when we were seated but quickly corrected. Great tropical garden ambiance with good native singer and keyboard. The bacon-vegetable chowder was excellent. The turkey was a little dry. The remainder of the items, all served on one plate, were very tasty. Both desserts, pecan pie and pumpkin crunch also excellent. A bit expensive but we return year after year.
30 years ago it was great and Thanksgiving was awesome!!!!
Love the setting. Good food, live music and great arrangements. Will return on our next visit to Kauai.
We were enjoyed and thanks.
See you again.
This restaurant is located not far from Lihue Airport, making it a perfect spot for lunch prior to a flight back to the Mainland. Gaylord’s is on the ground floor of a mansion that was presumably built for a wealthy planter. The room is open to the large lawn behind the house, giving all the tables very scenic views. Our server could not have been more accommodating, helping us to devise dishes suitable to my wife’s condition. (She had just had major dental surgery, limiting any chewing.). The food was good.
Our favorite place to visit and eat. This is a historic venue and worth every effort to dine and enjoy.
We've visited Gaylord's about 5 years ago on a previous visit to Kauai. We enjoyed it then. This time, while the food was good, we had very mixed feelings about our visit.
This time, the restaurant gave the feeling of a place where tour buses stop and people shop for trinkets. It seems really tired. The waiter we had was not attentive--and once the tour people left, there were not all that many people waiting, so I was surprised about the substandard service. Again, the food was good. But the prices are such that the tired atmosphere and poor service were not okay. Kauai has many wonderful restaurants, but Gaylord's will not be one we visit again.
I will say we enjoyed the bar. Good ambiance there.
We totally loved our dining experience at Gaylords. It was beyond wonderful. So charming and food was outstanding.
Gaylord's is our favorite restaurant on Kauai. The food and service are excellent.
Everything about the evening was incredible... the server (Jeff) and food were out of this world. Truly a wonderful experience as usual. Every year we come to Poipu and est at Gaylord’s. Truly wonderful!!
Fantastic restaurant with great food and ambiance.
It was raining which only enhanced the ambiance of this classic Hawaiian plantation. It is rich in history. I was thrilled to be there and enjoyed my wandering on the grounds. I wish I could say the same for the fish tacos. They were dry and boring. There are places that rely on reputation and habit. This may be one of them. I was disappointed in the food. I’ll go back, try a different dish and expect more. Mahalo.
This was the best meal we had on the island. Excellent flavor, taste, and presentation. ALSO, the drinks are properly made (and strong) - we experienced so many other places serving watered down drinks. We got great value for our money at Gaylord's. The service walked that very fine line between warm and welcoming and very professional.
Gaylord’s was an excellent place to eat after visiting the plantation and the rum tasting. Great food and service.
Food was good not great but the sever we had was terrible. Never told us about the specials was not attentive. Food service was extremely slow and she never came by to explain what the problem was. We always go to Gaylord when we are in Kauai but this time was not a pleasant experience.
I have been to Gaylord's many times over the past 25 years on my almost annual visit to the island. I am never disappointed! Whether it is Sunday Brunch (went twice in my 4 week stay), evening meal before departing for the airport or lunch on a lazy day of sightseeing, this is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Ambiance can't be beat! History of the plantation is important. Shops are wonderful.
Don't miss it.
We have never been disappointed at Gaylord’s. The Cioppino was outstanding and the Filet melted in our mouth. The live music was so-so but we went for the meal and the atmosphere that surrounds this old plantation house.
My wife and I had a reservation for a 6 pm dinner on a Wednesday night. When we arrived we were seated immediately. We requested a table with a nice view and we got it. We had our menus and got some water. Unfortunately we did not see a wait person until 15 minutes after being seated. When our waitress made it to our table she was very friendly and helpful. In my opinion the restaurant was understaffed with wait personnel.
We saw an interesting looking French white wine on the wine list (Vouvray) and asked our waitress about it. She was not familiar with it. So we picked a wine we knew.
After these issues in the beginning we had a wonderful time with the poke appetizer, cioppino and the fresh catch of the day. Everything tasted very good.
