Wonderful ambience, good food and excellent service. The experience was enjoyed by all (3 generations). Take the informative and fun train ride through the property and enjoy lunch at Gaylords.
Nice setting. Well known for prime rib. If you want that make sure you go on a night they are serving it as they do. It every night.
Sunday brunch is a must, lots to do, shopping, Rum tasting and a pottery shop on site. The brunch has a nice selection, loved the fresh fruit and the desserts were delicious.
The service was fantastic and Bobby waited on us with a great attitude of caring about our experience! The live music provided by the Father/Daughter duo was top notch and relaxing!
While OpenTable lists Gaylord’s in their “under $30” list, Gaylord’s advertising make them out to be a high-end restaurant. If you understand that Gaylord’s is the restaurant in a tourist trap, it’s not bad. Food is about on par with the Olive Garden or an inexpensive steak house with little effort made to plate attractively. Service is inattentive and bored early on a Saturday night. Kudos to the busboy for noting that one person didn’t like ice in their water but the waitress didn’t notice the raw dough in the deep fried bread pudding nor the fact that the dessert was untouched other than to cut open the three dough balls. We were asked twice if we wanted alcohol but when we said we’d already had drinks in the lounge, we got very little service after that. Service in the lounge should have been a clue that this restaurant experience would be uninspiring since they came to ask for drinks before the whole party arrived but ignored us even as they watched us get drink menus from other tables. The location is fantastic and worth a visit but skip Gaylord’s and it’s bar/lounge.
Went there on a recommendation from a Kauai local. Very good food, great ambience and we enjoyed the conversation with the server and the busboy regarding all of the chickens we've seen all around the island. Who could 've known Open Table would hook us up with a dinner reservation six-thousand miles from home.
good job, Open Table!
Excellent food and drinks. A nice peaceful serene lunch outdoors even in the rain.
Anniversary dinner was excellent!
Lovely setting. Great food & service! Our server was very pleasant, knowledgeable about the wine list & dinner menu, as well as very efficient!
Excellent food, ambience, and service. While pricey, the food is worth it. Perfectly seasoned fresh catch of the day over a lemon herb risotto and a perfectly seared Filet made the night special. The service was attentive but not overbearing. All in all a perfect night out.
Had a great evening. Dava was our server. Good conversation I had a poke bowl. Ahh not very well trimmed. Only complaint. Seaweed salad delish
World Class Service!!! Food was very good. Best bar drinks! Owner spent time getting to know us. We have been coming to Gaylord’s for 17 years...we will be back next year during our vacation on Kauaii island.
once again Gaylords succeeded in setting us up for a fantastic night. The setting is romantic and one of a kind and possibly THE BEST on Kauai if you enjoy great ambience.
While the food was not quite as good as it used to be, it was still fantastic and a great island value. Service was impeccable and the wine list has some nice finds on it.
Hank on the Piano with his friend Steve on Trumpet closed out our evening in the lounge with world class jazz. The craft cocktails are amazing and Cisco at the bar truly puts Hawaiian soul into them.
Great job Gaylords!!!
Only interesting comment. We live in TN. I booked a table for 5 at 5:30 on our chosen night. I got a call at 1am in the morning, TN time, saying something was a priority and could we come at 6:30.... Woke me up from a dead sleep, had trouble recognizing what the call was about as Gaylord in our area is the Opryland Hotel and I had no booking there? Finally realized who was calling me at 1am and agreed to the change in time... still bugs me that I was told something else was their priority?
Outstanding service by Debbie our waitress. Food was fresh and delicious! Cocktails were so good! Beautiful surroundings! Mahalo!
Spent my 50th birthday and the food was great, atmosphere was romantic and the staff was well trained. I will definitely be back and recommend this to any foodies out there.
Everything was perfect. From the service to the food presentation.
Staff was Great!
Food was so-so!
Ambiance was Great!
Had Sunday Brunch. A little on the pricey side, but food great. Enjoyed the prime rib and the omelet station and the live music.
What a wonderful way to spend Sunday morning—tasty variety of food and old plantation ambience! Mellow live music and attentive service, too!
My wife and I always have dinner at Gaylord's at Kilohana when we come to Kauai. Outstanding atmosphere, food and drinks.
We really enjoyed our meals here. The service was also wonderful. A great place to eat!
Food was very good.
Service was terrible.
Great food, beautiful setting. Had reservations for 6pm. Private party held us up until 6:15pm. They need to better manage this.
A wonderful dining experience. Food was delicious and service outstanding. A definite dining destination fir anyone traveling to Kauai.
Beautiful view, excellent food, great service, not overly pricey. Unique atmosphere. I would definately come here again.
After reading and hearing so many good things about the atmosphere and views at Gaylord’s,
We decided to book a 6:00 reservation on Sat nite. We were so looking forward to celebrating our last nite in Kauai and our anniversary a little bit early. (which I noted when we booked on open table). We arrived on time. The restaurant was not overly busy or booked. We were shown to a table that had views of the kitchen, hostess stand, and gift shop, not the beautiful courtyard views everyone talks about, even tho there were plenty of other open tables. It was noisy and did not have pleasant views. So rather than linger over a bottle of wine and dessert as originally planned, we ordered the cheapest thing on the menu, left quickly, and continued our nite elsewhere. Unfortunate for us and the server who was very nice. The food was ok but unfortunately, the over all experience was disappointing. I never understand why restaurants seat the worst tables first and leave the better tables open especially when someone has taken the time to make a reservation. So disappointed.
Fabulous atmosphere and staff. Music was light and excellent
We are so happy that this is Gaylord's again. We were on Kauai two years ago, and the restaurant had changed hands and was really bad.....
Thank you, Dava our waitperson, for a wonderful evening!!!!
We had a delicious meal at Gaylord's. The fish was perfectly cooked and complemented. Our server was gracious and attentive and the ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. We will return the next time we are in Kauai.
Gaylord’s is a restaurant that is excellent for great food, special occasions, and/or just a great dinning experience. All present had great food, and the taste and quality was out of this world!
Went out on a limb and ended up loving Sunday brunch here
Not empresses. Food just ok. Not worth the money. Could be great if the food was better
it was our 26th wedding anniversary. a great place to celebrate it
Go for a meal, but spend the day! There is so much to do on the property. Go with the intention of spending some time, not just eat and run. Make it a destination. The food is wonderful. The bar is historic...have a drink before dinner or coffee and dessert after dinner. Wander the grounds, get a tour...so much to do here.
Very good food & great ambience! Recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Great place for lunch or dinner. 😃👍
Sadly, I would definitely not recommend dinner at Gaylord’s. The property is mostly great, service is ok, food is terrible. My wife and I were very disappointed with all the good reviews we had seen. The menu seems to be very old (no creativity) and it shows in the food.
The property is gorgeous, lots to look at. However, the restaurant itself could use a little upkeep, just minor things such as falling led light strips (half burned out), cracked plates, etc add up.
The service was mostly good. However, our waiter did spend 15 minutes talking to one table and never came and asked us how our dinner was (even after we had bad experiences with apps). The manager did come around and ask how everything was at the end of the night which was good.
On to the food....which was pretty bad. Honestly the only great thing we’re the warm rolls. First we ordered crab cakes, which I’m almost certain had been frozen. When I stated this to both our server and the manager neither of her denied it, in fact the manager even stated she didn’t know if they were. They were extremely mushy and didn’t even taste like crab. It tasted as though they were frozen and reheated in the microwave, just disgusting. So our waiter suggested swapping it for the mixed green salad. I’m lactose intolerant so he said he would have them put the cheese on the side for my wife. It came with the cheese on top and was drenched in dressing, which it was a stronger vinaigrette, made it hard to eat. Lastly the “fresh” fish was pretty dry, another indicator that it might have been frozen or at least over cooked.
Overall we were really disappointed and would definitely recommend to stay away. This was our 5th dinner on the island and we enjoyed so many more places before this.
Gaylord’s is on an old Kauai plantation with a beautiful outdoor patio for dinning and an expansive lawn beyond the patio. The ambiance was terrific. The young man playing music in the bar was fantastic! Recommend sitting in the bar before/after dinner for a drink!
We went to Gaylord’s for dinner and were disappointed by the overall experience. After seeing plenty of positive reviews, we thought Gaylord’s would be one of our nicest dinners on the isnland but it was the most disappointing. Service was painfully slow. Our server was very nice and friendly, but seemed to disappear too often. The dining area wasn’t very crowded so It wasn’t due to business levels. More disappointing was the food. It was very bland at best. The Poke looked and tasted like ahi tossed with soy sauce. The fish entree was bland too, almost like the Kitchen forgot to season the fish altogether.
There was a luau the night we were there, so maybe all the focus was on the guests in attendance. Maybe we just got some bad luck, but I wouldn’t recommend to any of my friends to waste their money.
A-mazing food and great service! It was a wonderful birthday dinner on our last night in Kauai
