It was very nice. Great ambiance
We had a very bad experience at Gaylord’s. Their service was okay (waiters were friendly) but they should work on communication skills. We had to wait for our foods for over 30 minutes after ordering. When we asked them if our foods were ready they served them immediately which means our foods were done but sitting on the kitchen counter for a long time. Obviously the foods were not warm and didn’t taste good at all. They couldn’t even get us a glass of water since when we asked our waiter for a water, he asked the hostess to get our water and the hostess asked a different waiter to get it and it never came. We can’t recommend this restaurant to anybody.
Great place for business lunch
Food was mediocre at best. Service was slow. I had seared tuna which was the best part of the meal, but it was cold on my plate. My wife had scallops which was ok, she usually loves a scallop dish. Salads had odd ingredients with mushrooms. Coconut cream pie for dessert was very disappointing. Best part of the evening was the atmosphere and the live music was excellent. They need to improve the food experience to match the location and atmosphere.
We’ve been coming to Gaylord’s for the past 8 years and while the service is always outstanding and the ambience lovely, the food is hit and miss. During this visit, the salads were great, but the entrees and desserts were underwhelming. The fried seafood tortellini was terrible - hidden fried crab potstickers that you find at any all you can eat Chinese buffet. The prawn pasta was flavorless and the pork loin entree was very dry. The pork ribs, however, were pretty tasty. As for dessert, the funnel cake fried bread pudding was the highlight. The plantation pie’s ingredients sounded incredibly mouthwatering, but the dish itself just tasted like boring vanilla ice cream. We were hoping to really taste the pineapple and rum and the macadamian nuts. The caramel sauce on the banana cream pie was excellent, but the pie was lacking a strong banana flavor. We also felt slightly rushed when some peoples plates in our party were cleared while others were still eating. Coming from a restaurant background ourselves, clearing plates while others at the table are still eating is just a big no-no. But, we’ll probably stop here on our next visit. Still hoping for a repeat of the magical layered veggie dish they served 6 years ago that we can’t get out of our minds.
We come every time we travel to Kaui. First discovered the Gaylord in 1993. The atmosphere, food, service is always great!
It was great ambiance.
Food was delicious!!
Love, love, love Gaylords. Have been to brunch a few times. The food is delicious, music and Hawaiian dancing too. Love their Happy hr. Waitress Shelbie is a gem.
Loved our brunch. It was spectacular !! Debbie Was our server and a doll!!
Very beautiful place. The food was great. They just needed a little more of certain things. Really enjoyed it. We've been there a few times over the years and have not been disappointeded.
It was a lovely evening and our dinner was delicious!
The food was excellent but the service was mediocre. Although the appetizer came quickly, the salad and the entrée took quite a while to arrive. The server, Valerie if I recall correctly, never bothered to check back at the table. On two occasions we had to flag down a server in the area to obtain pepper for the salad and for the entrée. We were never asked about dessert and although I had indicated the occasion was my birthday, there was no mention of this in any way. All in all a disappointing, though not terrible, dinner.
A lovely evening. Excellent food and a great waitress, possibly Peggy. My memory escapes me.
We make sure we come to Gaylard's at least twice when we are on Kauai, sometimes even three times. We had and enjoyed the best table there. Our server Ashley was just prefect for our lunch, she anticipated our every need. We ordered the fish that was offered on the chalkboard which was great and my wife ordered your Cheese burger. Ashley told us that the beef for the burger was grown locally and it tasted great. Our visit to Gaylord's made it a perfect day.
Wow! Amazing food and service. We loved it so much we have been twice in 3 days and plan on coming back! Definitely worth the drive from the North Shire.
One of my favorite restaurants on the island. Always good food and great service.
We always have a great experience at Gaylord’s. The food is always great and the service is very attentive without being intrusive.
Wonderful atmosphere, and food. The young hula girl with her Dads music and songs made my day. Mahalho
Perhaps not as exceptional as in the past but still a very good restaurant with wonderful ambiance.
Sorry to say I should have listened to the locals that cautioned me this place
The menu was quite limited but there were 3 specials, one of which was fine. My short ribs were tasty but didn't have much meat on them. Was surprised that they give each person one small piece of bread and vinegar and oil mix for dipping. When asked for butter, it was suggested that it was not usually given, but it was reluctantly brought to the table. We also asked for more bread and were given only 1 small piece each again. The food was good but not outstanding. We felt like the restaurant was "skimping". The piano player in the nearby bar could be heard in the dining area and he was excellent.
The best was one piece of coconut pie that comes free to Marriott Beach Club visitors. The ambiance and outdoor/indoor dining was excellent.
Servers and food were great! Very drunk large group was getting out of hand and the manager handled the situation great!
After a week on the island, we were pretty disappointed with Hawaiian food (our first visit to Hawaii). Gaylord's changed our impression of that - the food was varied, flavoursome, had vegetables included, there was an extensive wine list, and the service was outstanding. It was our anniversary, and we were given the best table, and made to feel very special. I only wish we'd discovered Gaylord's earlier in the week!
One of my favorite places to eat when we visit Kauai.
Loved the music!
We had 12:15 reservations. Took about 10-15 minutes to get POG/champagne drinks. Ran out of potatoes before we went to buffet.
Fantastic atmosphere on the outdoor patio with Hawaiian singer and dancer. Variety is not what we are used to when going to buffets, but the choices were tasty.
Food was great as always! We were disappointed that there was no delicious bread pudding at the Brunch. We are coming back next Sunday with a group of seven and hope the bread pudding will be there for the Brunch.
Excellent brunch - great quality and variety for the value!
The brunch at Gaylord has changed since last year and is not nearly as special. We missed the Ahi Benedict and the delicious malasadas. The offerings were very standard. Our service from Amanda was excellent, however, and the location is still beautiful.
Gaylord's for lunch is one of our "must do" outings when we're on Kauai. There is just something so peaceful and serene about it -- I think I used the word "gentile" when describing it to my husband. Anyway, you get the feeling that you're eating out on the patio of a lovely old Hawaiian home -- which is exactly what you're doing. We've never had a bad meal there -- this time my husband had the catch of the day (Mahi Mahi) and requested it blackened which was a special order but they accommodated him. He raved about it. I had the Reuben which was also very good -- the corned beef was tender and piled on so high I could only eat half. The service was wonderful -- not only does your server greet you but the entire staff is so friendly. When we arrived, one of the servers inadvertently dropped a plate and I was standing close to the line of fire. I had a teeny tiny bit of ketchup on my shoe and a small spot on my pants (which came off with just a bit of water.) Anyway, the server apologized profusely and the manager came out to see that I was okay. Quite amazing, I thought. Additionally, I left my purse on my chair when I left and the hostess came running to the parking lot to find me. They just really go above and beyond there. I highly recommend.
Very unhappy with new chef and menu. After years of coming here several times while on the island, I cancelled my other 2 reservations.
It was delightful to be in such a setting. Wonderful courtyard and food. The man in the store was informative about shells, carving, wood in Hawaii and the such.
Other than the very stale bread. All was good. We do love the scallop and lentils dish. Good ambience and nice live music.
We came here last night with our friends, and had an amazing meal. The Mai Tais are absolutely delicious, and unlike any I have had before. There are several local ingredients, including the Koloa Rum and hand-presses local juices. You can taste each and every flavor in this drink. It is a must to have when you go there. Our friends had the Caesar salad and the seared ahi. They said it was very good. My husband had the Mahi Mahi which was so flaky and tasty. I had the fresh local salad with the portobello mushrooms in a basil vinaigrette, and it was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. As a side dish I had the crab cakes which, though not entree size, were very delicious.
For dessert we had the banana coconut cream pie. Outstanding!
We really enjoyed our dinner at Gaylord's. We shared a caprese salad, C had the catch of the day (grilled Mahi-Mahi) and I had seared scallops. We finished with a slice of the coconut-banana cream pie, with a coconut crust so it was gluten free.
I love the little courtyard which is the dining area.
After we received our entre the waiter never returned , we kept waiting 15 to 20 minutes or more so I asked another server about desert and coffee, and was kept waiting again.
We were disappointed with the service
Food was great as was the service. Went for the buffet so wide variety to choose from and all very tasty.
We were at Gaylord’s for their Sunday brunch. The buffet and its quality was very disappointing for nearly $40 per person. The meats and fish were over cooked and the remainder of the buffet was lacking.
The ambiance and Hawaiian entertainment was great and saved the overall experience. Service was great.
This was our second visit to Gaylord's, the first a few years ago, which was stellar and the reason we opted to return. The service was outstanding, the wait staff were at the top of their game, though our waitress did get our final bills confused and had to rerun them. For the four of us, only one was pleased with dinner - he loved the cioppino - the other three of us had the roast chicken, which was dry and not impressive in taste or appearance. The chocolate cake dessert was delicious, and we found all menu items to be relatively over-priced for what we got. That said, we enjoyed the setting, everyone was very pleasant, but while we will return to the Koloa Rum Factory, that was our last visit to Gaylord's.
Food was excellent - had the short rib dip and the whole thing was great. The salad dressing on the cypress was also great. This is a perfect stop to get lunch prior to boarding our plane, also it has a little train if you have kids with you (that cost extra).
