Very nice meal with crab and artichoke dip and two prime rib dinners. Our server never asked if we wanted another cocktail or wine—probably would’ve ordered more had we been asked. Very pleasant overall.
Great food and ambience
Amazing lunch, food was exceptional!! Great view sitting at the end table in the garden looking out.
The food was very good and lots of options. Nice to be able to order an entree not on the buffet, but it is included in the brunch menu. Good cocktails also.
We’ve been to Gaylord’s for dinner many times and always a great experience. Brunch was great, there was something for everyone. I was able to get as much fresh fruit as I wanted. The omelets, French toast and desserts were a big hit. My husband ordered the Ahi eggs Benedict and he said it was the best Benedict he’s ever had.
We arrived early so we could check out the various shops within the Mansion. We dined on everything from Prime Rib to Pork Tenderloin to fish - all were very good...but I thought my pork was a bit dry. We began our meals by sharing 2 Classic Caesar Salads. We shared dessert - both couples had pie (banana cream and key lime pie). This is an open air restaurant and it did get a bit chilly - many went to their vehicles for jackets.
Whenever we visit Kauai we always have dinner at least once at Gaylord’s. The food and ambiance are wonderful and the service is first rate. This trip we had a wonderful dinner and then walked across the lawn to see the luau show which is the best luau I have ever seen on any of the islands.
Beautiful setting. Perfect attentive service and food was top shelf.
It can be difficult dining with very young children but staff were helpful and empathetic.
Awesome - thank you.
Our meal and service was fabulous. Will definitely do this again!
The place is in a beautiful setting. You’re outside but under cover. The service was very good. My appetizer was a little disappointing. It was the tuna Poke in a coconut shell. The description said that it had a spicy sauce but it tasted rather bland and the tuna was rather mushy. However my entrée of mahi mahi with the tomato compote was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed my banana coconut cream pie for dessert :-) all in all you can’t beat the setting and it’s just got a lovely ambience. There was piano playing in the background which was very pleasant.I agree with another reviewer who said the luau going on next door was distracting in the background. Their PA system is very loud and you could hear the announcer over the piano music which was unfortunate. I would still recommend it for a nice evening out but be choosy with your appetizer and stick to the fresh fish.
Really enjoyed the location, atmosphere and food at this place. Definitely recommend if you are visiting Kauai
Very nice setting, however that being said, the food was just ok at best. "Fresh" mahi-mahi was overcooked to the point of toughness. My husbands beef ribs tasted gamey. The rolls were so hard you could barely tear off a piece. Caesar salad was good and the pineapple ice cream pie was nice. Inattentive wait staff, never checked on our table til we had finished our entree. Our last dinner on Kauai and the worst meal yet. We will not be returning here when we visit again. A shame really because there is such potential for what could be a great dining experience.
Gaylord’s is always an excellent dinner and dining experience. A beautiful setting that is always comfortable and romantic.
Excellent food and service, very nice setting
Great! Best mai Tai on the island...good imperial porter. Apps an diner excellent
We have eaten at Gaylord's annually when on Kauai for maybe 10 years. the problem with Gaylords was consistency: sometimes it was wonderful in every way, sometimes both the food and the service were problematic. This year, it was the best ever. The food was superb, the service was faultless, and we love the courtyard in which the dinner is served.
We have been coming to Gaylord’s for many years whenever we visit Kauia and are never disappointed.
My husband had the fish special which was wonderful. I had the cheesesteak sandwich. It was a little dry -could have used some as jus -but it was tasty.
They also make a great mai tai!
Tourist destination. Cute place but food was so so. Waiter warned us that the ciopinno was not broth but more like a stew. Note to self: if waiter is warning you...don’t choose it. Not only not broth based, which was ok, it was totally tomato sauce based. Totally overwhelmed all the fish flavor. The tomato/mozerrelo salad had no flavor, tomato was bland. The croutons were hard as nails, couldn’t eat. I know there is humidity, but seriously. Wasted one of our few evenings meals here on the island. Don’t usually write such harsh reviews, but I suspect this was not just an off night.
Beautiful atmosphere. Amazing food. Great service - our server and those helping were FABULOUS!!! Definitely will recommend and return.
We went to Gaylord’s with another couple because of the rave reviews. We made reservations, when we arrived there was no one at the hostess stand to greet guests and waited for her, this was a harbinger for things to come, eventually we were seated. Our server took our drink order then didn’t come back to the table for 20 minutes , we had to wave him down to ask if we could order appetizers and to ask when our drinks would be out. The snarky answer he gave us was-‘the bar is 12 blocks away’-??? Appetizer portions were small so we asked for another plate of spring rolls from the food runner and the second order came out almost immediately, we were amazed especially after waiting for the original order. The kid told us ‘yeah-they just take out and throw them in the deep fryer’. We took that as meaning from freezer to fryer.......bummer. But the pinnacle to the dinner was dessert and no coffee, he forgot to bring that. One of us got the flourless chocolate cake, I honestly can say I have never seen such a small serving. Another one of us had the fried dessert with ice cream, there was a frozen uncooked French fry in the bottom of the bowl. Gross! When we told the server, he acted like it was no big deal and would ‘let the kitchen know’—great, thanks?
Had a great time with our friends and talk about the ‘fry incident’. Unfortunately not being greeted and having a food runner go find her. Then our server Gino did the restaurant a disservice that night with his lack of attention and service. We were looking forward to a great dinner and left feeling unimpressed.
Beautiful setting. Fun happy hour with live music. Nice dinner on the patio. The scAllops were great
This place was very unusual as it was in a old plantation house. The food was very well done but my son and I had the fish stew but the menu said spicy tomato sauce but it was flat, needed some hot sauce added. Our poor server already knew it was flat and she apologized but it wasn't her fault. Otherwise then that the meal was outstanding. The wife and I had the funnel cake whatevers with ice cream and they were very good but my wife's family would have had a fit as she is from Penn. Dutch country and these were not funnel cake style in any form. As a place to enjoy the island this is a great change but welcomed. We really liked the atmosphere.
Best meal we had all week! Loved the food, service was great and the ambiance was amazing! Perfect evening with friends!
Our first occasion dining here. Outstanding service and food. Have already booked a second reservation.
Wonderful shops : art ,jewelry, Koloa rum , wonderful kitchen and dining as well as sweet shop. Dining ambience is terrific as is staff. Had fish tacos and poke which were tasty but not the best we had on this trip. Loved the cucumber mojito
Lovely setting in the courtyard. Lunch was delicious and the service was friendly and quick. Can’t wait to return.
The service was horrible. Had to wait 30 minutes for a table with a reservation. Waited 20 minutes to receive the drink order. Rolls were not fresh. Service inattentive. However, the main course was good.
Great service but food was just average. Seafood stew had calamari that was a bit rubbery and the clams while large were too old. Cabernet wine was very good
Nice atmosphere for an evening meal. Food and service very good; nice wine list.
Gaylord's has an attractive setting and should be a great place to eat. Instead, indifferent service and overpriced food choices prevent a pleasant experience. The main dining area was not full when we were there and yet we were constantly looking for our server for one thing or another. The food took forever to arrive and was only warmish and not hot when it finally arrived. We waited for the plates to be cleared. We waited to be asked if we wanted desert. We waited for the desert. It was so bad that we made a game of guessing how long each wait would be and then timing it on my phone to see who had the closer guess. You know there's something wrong when customers resort to this. For the rich prices they charge, you'd certainly expect first class service.
Gaylord's has the potential to be a decent place if they could just act like the customers mattered and stepped up their game. We won't be going back, however.
Service was slow and poor. We felt ignored. There was a set menu for Vaelentine’s Day. Soup or salad and my wife and I ordered prime rib. We ordered drinks prior to ordering our meal. It took unreasonably long to get our drinks (cup of hot water with lemon and a glass of wine). The waitress had to be reminded to get our drinks. We asked for bread with our soup but we didn’t get any until after we were done. It took a while to receive our main course. I cannot imagine taking that long to cut a piece of meat.
The prime rib was delicious. My compliments to the chef. Too bad he or she is not surrounded by good servers. 4 - star meal with 1-star service.
Went for Valentines Day Dinner as a party of 4, we were seated right away, and had great attentive service. I wasn’t aware of a fixed menu for Valentine’s Day when I made the reservation, which was a bummer- but the main course we did pick from the list were excellent. The Dessert Trio was delish And It was a great place to spend the holiday.
We have dined at Gaylord’s many times and always have had a great experience. This lunch was not great—we were seated immediately but waited at least 15 min to get water and for our waiter to take our drink order. We asked for a napkin as one of the place settings did not have it, and had to ask twice to get one. Asked for ketchup 2 times and never received. The whole experience was sub-par, others around us got their food before us, and we only had 3 people ordering before them. We like Gaylord’s but definitely not up to the standards we have come to expect.
Every aspect of the meal and ambiance was excellent...the young man who was our waiter was horrible for a restaurant of this level....made our whole event a poor experience....have been there numerous times and this makes us wonder about coming back and certainly think about recommending to friends....very disappointed.
What a treat. Did the train ride in the morning, dinner in the evening. Service and food couldn't be any better.
Great food and service. Lovely ambiance. Will return next time I visit Kauai!
We have loved previous visits to Gaylord's Sunday Brunch; however, our recent experience was a disappointment. The ala carte menu had changed with a very poor omelette being substituted for the signature steak and egg option. Service was exceptionally bad---we had to ask twice for coffee when we arrived and had to wait until we could flag down our server for refills. Juice was not offered.
We do not mind paying a premium price for exceptional food and excellent service; but, the food and service did not warrant the premium price on our most recent visit. It was a disappointment.
I think the food could have been good, if it wasn’t cold when we finally received it. We were waiting an hour for our appetizer, our waiter kept looking at us, but didn’t check on our food. I think it was sitting in kitchen for quite a while. People that arrived after us were served a lot quicker. When we finally got our waiters attention and said we’d been waiting an hour our food came right out. Appetizer and main course! Entree was cold.
We had been so looking forward to this experience and were sadly disappointed. The service was horrible. Also they didn’t even offer us a discount or anything for the shoddy service. The busboy however was amazing. I wish I could remember his name.
Because of our horrible experience I could never recommend this restaurant.
